This happened to two of the mercedes techs today as they were coming back from lunch.
The right front spring tore it's top mount OFF the car. It's going to have to go to the body shop to get repaired.
To be fair, this car does have 228,000 miles on it and is from the salty, northern half of the US.

Right side(the broken side):

I'm not sure what year that is. Not even sure how much it's going to be, parts and labor included. It's still on the rack and the spring has been pulled out, so i'll get some shots of the damage's extent tomorrow AM and have them posted in the evening.
Whos car was this?
One of the customers. He dropped it off because he was giving his wife the car and wanted to make sure the engine wasn't going to die on her. But what he should have been worried about, obviously was the suspension. :roll:

Sure that isnt an E Class?
Thats unbelievable what has happened to that car but like ZfrkS62 said, it has been used excessively. I guess you'd have to give Mercedes the benefit of the doubt on this one - especially if no other cases like this have arised.
ya..looks like an e-class to me too

Yes, It's a W210...in other words a E-Class.
I don't know how the spring upper mount could have broken off like that. Do you have any idea how much abuse and what not one would have to do in other to get something like that!? This is the first story I've seen this happen to a Mercedes. Thank god mine is no where near looking like that. For example, here is what mine looks like.

Yup, No problems at all. :)
Any update on that E Class though?

well, for those of you that don't know, the Northern US gets extremely fucking cold in the winter, so they put salt and sand on the roads to keep ice to a minimum. Drawback to this is, the sand ends up removing the protective undercoat and allows the salt to corrode the body. The Mercedes techs think that's what caused it to rot away and eventually break the way it did, since the whole underside of the car is showing signs of rust and corrosion.
The owner was contacted, but other than that i don't know what is going on.
