Hey guys, i am in desperate need of answers. My computer is messed up, when i turn it on i cannot open anything. a couple of days ago a warning came up and said my computer was at risk but it did not give me a chance to fix it. so now nothing will open, the start button in the corner will not work anymore. so all i can is click items on the desktop, but they will not open. nothing will open. anyone ever heard of anything like this??

i am on my roommates computer to write this, so if anyone has any idea what to do or what i can do please let me know. i know reformating is an option but i do not want to lose my 40gigs in car videos, they are videos of things from years ago that i do not want to lose.

Thanks guys

that is weird, cant think of a reason as to why it behaves that way... Keep us posted on what you find out.

I tried what saadie said and that won't even work because when i press control alt delete that screen rarely comes up. it did once and i tried to end explorer and nothing happened, everything just froze up. i can't go to run either because i cannot press the start button :(
this is really making me mad, all my videos from years and years are basically gone because i do not have them burnt off. All my formula one vids from last years montreal gp, vacation videos, top gear and 5th gear etc.. if i cannot fix this there is no way of getting them back, it really sucks.

Well, you could buy another harddisk, put the new in, take the old out, install windows on the new, install some heavy antivirus, then plug the old disk in and copy the vids onto the new harddrive..

That's the best solution as I see it..

dont worry .. the videos and all yer data is alright ..... your windows is really messed up ... do what abbor said .... if yea dont really want to reinstall windows and go through all tht crap .. try this ..... i just discovered it yesterday ..... run the computer in safe mode .. and dissable the services Aplication Layer Gateway service and Application Manager via msconfig ....... the problem tht i think is some spyware or some bug really fucked yer application manager layer .... its only in windows tht yea use the application "" EXPLORER"" to run other applications .. thast y XP is said to be the most stable windows .. but when the application manager layer is fucked .. nothing works ... << thats what hapenned to yea .. :P
