View Full Version : My Nissan 300zx

Hey guys, here's my '90 Aus-delivered Nissan 300zx.
She's a 'Cherry red pearl' M/T Non-Turbo
3.0L V6, 170kw @ the flywheel
6.68 0-100km's.
Don't know any other stats off the top of my head :D it's no supercar.
I opted for this over a TwinTurbo because of crazy insurance premiums (this isn't much better mind you). Love it anyway, regardless of how fast/slow it is.
Completely stock apart from the 2000-spec front bar, modified exhaust, leather front seats, and sound system :)
Hope you like the pics, my proof shot will be the first to go up.

Very nice car, it's good that it's naturally aspirated, I don't like the sounds of turbos that much :( The colour is nice, although I think the car looks best in black. Congrats dude and welcome aboard :D
Nice car you got there, looks clean and tidy
welcome to JW aswell :D

sound sistem??? ( if you dont mind... )
Don't mind at all, thanks for the compliments!
2004 Pioneer CDA-9831 head unit
-mp3, sexy graphic display, all that sorta jazz.. :)
2x 6.5" Epsilon fronts w/ tweeters
2x Blaupunkt 6"x4" rear speakers
2x Alpine Type-S 12" Subs
2x Alpine V-Power Amps (700w+360w)
Soundproofed the whole car with Dynamat.
The sound is unreal, although I'd go bigger in the next car (TT Zed :D ) for sure.
I noticed that the front spoiler is different to the other (silver) Z's. Is it standard?
Thanks for that . The answer is yes and no :P . It's standard off a 2000-spec Z, but the bar on the silver one is what mine had originally.
The silver Z just fyi is a Twin Turbo. They're easily distinguished by the slat-grille on the front corners - there for the side-mount intercoolers . The N/A doesn't have this feature, so they're easy to tell apart. You'll all know your N/A's from TT's now! (unless they're kitted hehe).

yer car is just wicked ....... yea planning on gettin new rimms ? :D

Hehe nah, no new rims! I plan to get a TwinTurbo Z before the end of the year, so that will get all my attention (mods, mags, etc) when it arrives :D
For now I'm just going to appreciate this car for what it is, keep up the preventative maintenance etc. so it stays trouble-free. New clutch, pads, & replacing some hoses under the plenum soon - not fun, not cheap hehe :) but that's the price we pay I suppose.
Thx again for the comments!

Hey, ya learn somethin new everyday  i actually didn't know/never noticed the corner slats on the TT's before.
Awesome lookin ZX you've got there. I love that body style. Not as much as the original Z though

First of all, welcome on JW. Secondly, you've some nice wheels. I like the personalised license plates: it doesn't only match your car, it also is your nickname. Nice, mate :D
I like your photography as well. The last picture is great, and the one with the tree background scenery is beautiful too.

ZZX32, great car man, the 3Z was the my first ever affordable dream car so you should be dam proud, haha. I would have gotten one but i didn't want to deal with it in Chicago's winters, i dunno how T-Bird does (don't say snow tires). I'm happy to see you got the manual.

I must thank everyone again for such positive comments, even from those who aren't big fans...you've got my respect guys

She's pushing 170,000km's - not sure what that is in miles exactly. Pretty low km's for an Aus-delivered Z.
The car itself seemed to have really been looked after...compression was pretty much factory (stoked!). Only complaint was the original mechanics had somehow disconnected the VVT gear solenoid , but that's life!
Will now be a matter of finding a nice TT and cranking some serious ponies out of it :D
PS. I will post more pics as I find them

170,000KMS=approx 102,000 Miles. Pretty low mileage for any Z :D
If you plan on making with the forced induction, you're going to want to knock down the compression ratio. your engine won't be able to handle too much boost reliably out of the stock CR. I dont' remember your engine's code (i want to say VG30DE) but it's main difference from the TT version (besides those beautiful turbos :D ) is the compression. Stock, I believe the 300ZXTT runs 8lbs (1.8BAR) of boost.
And at 102K Miles, that would be the perfect reason to tear down and rebuild your engine :D
*EDIT* Nice new sig and avatar :D

Haha thanks mate, just knocked up the avatar then :)
As for the forced induction - how does one go about it? This is very much pushing the limit of my mechanical knowledge :P. Same with knocking the compression ratio hehe.

Essentially, it may, in the long run, be cheaper to buy a used VG30DETT, rebuild it (new valveseals, piston rings, head gaskets/other engine seals) and install it in your car.
Forced induction is anything that forces the air into the engine (turbochargers in this case).
Check out the modification and problems help section in the forum index for topics. I know there have recently been a couple of compression related threads started.

Thanks for clearing that up :) - I really need to brush up on my terms!
In the long run you're right, it'd be much easier to get a VG30DETT & drop that in. There are so many different parts between the DE/DETT it's mindblowing
I'll most likely buy a TT Zed and just work on that. Much less hassle, and this current Z can remain original hehe.
Few more piccies:

Engine bay before a hardcore degreasing. I was fortunate [or unfortunate?] to find that it still had the 15-year-old 'shipping wax' all over the engine/engine bay. Beneath was pristine paint & shiny metal!

End result. Used CT-14 degreaser if anyone's interested in giving theirs a clean :)

I would be really cautious about detailing the engine that way in the future. Water and crap can get into electrical connectors and cause alot of problems. And according to murphy's law, it will end up being the hardest to reach connector that gets infested with gremlins :?
It came out quite well though :D That kosmoline crap can be a pain in the ass to deal with :?

well yes i guess 102k miles is alright for a car that old, infact its very good cause it means u use it! the one i had had like 35k miles but it was my dads and he used other cars until he gave it to me.
and ur engine bay really neded that degrease and it looks like new now good job!
and that TT transformation is a good idea... and yea its easier to just buy a TT engine rebuild it and stick it in there except u personally know somoene that can work on ur engine, someonm eu trust and wont cost u much. but there are loots of things u can do to ur car... its a matter of what is your goal?...
start by cheking www.stillen.com they have awsome parts for the Z, mayb a little expensibe but great.
well hope to c high res pics soon
EDIT
ohh i forgot also check out www.300zxclub.com its a forun i used before, u can ask anf find whatever u want it can b really helpfull...

car looks great. those old Z's are really sexy, hope you can build it up to TT too. That front airdam looks sweet too, nice taste. It almost looks like it should be stock.
Hey now that I think about it, since you're considering replacing the DE with a DETT engine altogether, I wonder if it's possible to drop in a VQ35DE engine? Even if it's not a very viable solution, it's an interesting prospect.
ZZX32
04-25-2005, 09:00 PM
Not sure if a VQ35DE transplant is possible, but a VQ30DETT most certainly is :D
That's be the ideal replacement for someone with some spare $$. Pretty sure it's all alloy. That or chuck in an Infiniti Q45 V8, TT it
I won't TT my non-turbo I don't think, not viable at this point in time. Will just buy a TT Z.
Thanks everyone for the kind words, considering what some of you drive hehe. Z 32 I like your beast too, nice colour/rims!
