I was watching the 12hr Sebring the other day and I noticed that there were many many Porsche GT3 RSR. And I started to wonder what would be the total cost for creating a private with 1 car(the owner) team with a GT3 RSR for example?
And above all what would be the cost of maintenance?...
:?
Pretty much I quess...

A full season, probably pushes just over $1million. A GT3 RSR with all the spares and such is about $300k. Most of the cost is offset by sponsors.
Many teams actually sell the seat. As in the drivers pay the team to let them drive. Why, I dont' know. But there must be some kind of payoff for the driver, as a lot of people do it. It happens a lot in Grand Am.

Depends on the race, but who gets the money? LOL
A driver puts of $30k to race, but the team has put up $500k.

besides paying for the seat, do they need any credentials??
I don't know. From what little I've read, most people who do it are up and coming stars looking to jump into a new series.
Kind of makes sense, they put up the cash to show that they are worth thier beans. If the driver stinks, the team didn't waste any money.

Well, you did say you were watching the 12 Hours of Sebring when you thought of this.

Yeap, just wanted to clarify this. And since Im now very much aware of the ALMS how many races does a full season include? The 12hr Sebring is part of the season?

people pay cause its cheaper then getting thier own team, and for some if they dont pay they might never get the chance of racing. just look at the ones that pay to race in F1 and where are they exactly?? NO WHERE!! once thier money runs out so do they.
Half the field of most racing series is paying for their seats, unless there is a big big sponsor on board. I think you'd be surprised at how many of the current formula one crowd are paying, or have been paying for a long time.
I bet shumacher didnt get all his drives for free in his youth.

The 12 Hours of Sebring is the first race of the season out of 10 total. I think it's 10 anyway. The next race is this weekened, being broadcasted on CBS.
