CRAP! Do you have any further information as to what happened? The camera seemed to miss the actual instant it caught fire...but I guess he was holding it near the redline or something, and the engine just gave way? :|

You can hear the intake pop off... nitrous accident most likely...

Damn that sucks. I wonder how big the shot was. They said it was a nitrous "hiccup" in the video so it was definately the nitrous. I am pretty sure the Z06 is ruined, it burned for along time.

Geez, how unfortunate. Got a question though - why did it take stewards forever to put something on the fire? Is there a protocol in the US or something where you let it burn first, then put out the smouldering car?

i saw pics of this on another forum. it was nitrous for sure. and it was in the owners hands for a very short time if i recall.

Very possible that if he had recently purchased the car and tried to throw a 150 shot at it at a high RPM, it would easily blow if it hadn't beren broken in properly. I've seen it happen numerous times.

Well the commentator is an ass, and there's usually a guy standing in the middle where the cars line up with a fire extinguisher, so i don't understand what happened there. Thats what happens when you have air in the line. http://www.dsmpile.com/data/tyrexxgldother231ql.jpg

I would also not want them to put out the fire too quickly... you don't want insurance to try repair your car after it burns... rather get it replaced.

After all the car wasn't damaged while racing... but before... ;) :P -- so surely insurance should cough up and pay...

But sad to see none the less...

RC as soon as you drive onto the racetrack you are not covered by normal road insurance. Unless this guy had a clause or an option he opted for racetrack coverage, i doubt he had to much of a leg to stand on? :(

^ especially once the insurance adjuster sees the nitrous lines fused to the engine. Instant claim denial :|

Ah damn, that sucks...maybe he won't use nitrous next time around.

I think that the fact that there's a video out there that would screw him as well as pictures makes his claim kind of difficult, well thats if the insurance agent isn't an idiot and not too lazy.
