Same as in the Challenege Stradale, a friend of mine into the businness explained me it's the "handbrake"

Ah HA! That would explain it! Cheers!

 I did not know this! Anyone know if the ‘hand brake” contributes to the stopping power?

hmm...that's weird that it's the handbrake cause very few cars have that double-caliper setup. The only car that i can remember i've ever seen it on is the Porsche Carrera GT, i kno i've seen it on one or two others, but i cant remember right now.

nice find tho!

i think the reason is, becaus eif you race and really brake hard, your discs heat up and when you stop and leave the car witht he hand brake on it sticks or melts to the disc and so you left with you hand brake on until you spend a lot of money on new carbon ceramic brakes. So the second may be so that after you go hard and fast you can jam on the hand brake with out this problem. This is my theory.

^^^I agree with that, I was thinking along those lines.

there's a seperate handbrake caliper in the 360 and 550 as well.

I kinda see where you're going here, but why would it be needed on cars that already have carbon ceramic brakes (like the enzo and the CGT)? At first, I thought it was to help stabilize the brake disk under consistant and hard braking...

The second caliper is for the handbrake, like the 360, the Gallardo...

As cho_888 posted - It's for the handbrake.

Reason - Regardless of what material brakes you have on a car, after 10mins+ of blasting around a track you come into the pits and leave the car with the handbrake on it will weld itself to the rear disc.

I've seen a lot cars come into the pits with the brakes on fire so you can imagine how hot they get

But I just wonder why you have to use the handbrake on a pitlane where the ground is flat ;)

Good point TT. There are so many people who use the handbrake every time they stop the engine. Apparently they have no idea what it's for. That always amazes me. Next time someone does that I'm going to ask that person the simple question why? I bet he or she doesn't have an answer but "just because".

As every track racer and track day driver knows ..DONT USE THE HANDBRAKE IN THE PITS! ^ as above - when u want to take off to do a few more hot laps hmmm.. car feels very sluggish, in fact it is standind still coz the the damn rear pads have welded themselves to the disks! that is one expensive repair job

My understanding is that the handbrake is for helping u around tighter corners .. since when does everyone use handbrakes to park their cars?
Thats what the "P" is for on automatics and the "1" and "R" are for on manuals muthas...

When you've parked on a descend and your brakes aren't hot and it's not freezing hard outside you use the handbrake. And of course to do turns with it as well

Now that u mentioned it .. I jammed the handbrake solid on my previous car a hyundai elantra.. We have a little"rally stage" just out of Durban where I stay.. was using the handbrake around the corners to get the tail out and generally behave badly... suddenly after a heavy pull on it - "WHUMP"... locked solid.. The handbrake got so hot it warped the drums and the linings actually boiled off into them.. just one more application was needed and the whole assembly was glued/welded solid
