The best place to educate yourself about encoding into different formats is www.doom9.org
They have step by step guides to many many formats. I'm sure that website will be mighty helpful (TMPGenc is a very good encoder by the way :D)

good one. there's a difference between being a bumbling idiot and being entirely computer illiterate. i admit to being the latter
i must've tried google and download.com a thousand trillion times last night and somehow everything led me to the same link, which is the same one you provided. everytime i try to download it it says it has an internal server error

I use Hero Video Convert 2.0 from download.com, it works well but you have to play the video while it converts so it can take a wile if you have alot to convert, however it will convert stupid real media videos to mpeg.

Well if you want to change your files to .mpeg yep you could use TMPEnc, but prepare yourself for HOURS and HOURS of waiting. Besides, the files after being switched with TMPEnc are MUCH MUCH bigger. I would suggest buying another cd burner or try using NERO or alternate progrmas, that is defenitelly not working right. There is no way that you could be able to burn one type of data. If you are thinking on switching all you filest to mpegs you must have the time of the world in your hands and the amount of CD's in bestbuy. I used TMPEnc to change to mpeg, but then I used another pgorma (VirtualDUB) to encode the resulting file to .avi with DivX compression... but that takes TOO MUCH TIME and would advice you not to change any file... update us with your decision I am curious lol
