Ok, here we go, my baby, my 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1. Bought her in April of '04, replacing my 1989 Honda Accord LXi. It's not the Bugatti I really want, but I love it nonetheless :P

Nice car Aleighy. I had a WS6 with 325hp (see avatar) before my saab!

Had a Grand Am GT as a rental when I first got to the US for a month. It was 210hp 3.8 V6 but it must have had a lot of torque as it felt quicker than 210hp if that makes sense. I'd just got out of a 96 Civic Si in the UK...which I still own but haven't driven in over 12 months (I bet the battery is flat now)

The GA is a set in stone for life automatic, even tho its life is almost over...2005 is the last production year and then the G6 (stupid generic sedan) takes its place in Pontiac's line up. :x For right now the V6 doesnt sound all that great, but I'll be takin the stock exhaust off and putting two Flomaster 80's on it, although my boyfriend disagrees with this choice. In the end its safe to say that I just want it to sound like the V8 that chevy made back in the 60's, you know that deep rumble of pure muscle. And the blingin rims? stock, lol. I just keep em shiny :D

Firebird has a tranny and Grand Am a transaxle it won't work and the Firebird had the 3.8 not the 3.1.

Actually, grand am does/did come with manual on the base 2.4 (or 2.2 ecotec?). I've seen couple of '01 aleros with manual but I was busy trying to get some warranty work done so didn't bother getting a test drive.

BTW, I drive an Alero GLS with 3.4. Get 5 less hp but gotta love the torque ;)

Well, if that means that there is a transaxle that will fit the V6, then this little lady may be in luck :D poor girl needs to learn how to drive a stick though too. from what i gather all the cars she's tried to learn on weren't the forgiving type which can be quite discouraging for a beginner :(

well this is what I found on your style car aleighy for Manual transaxles. Good news is you should be able to find one in a Junkyard but I'm not sure if you can mate it up to the V-6 or not but it's worth a try IMO. Also it's a Getrag so it's probably an excellent transaxle.

well you can get the tranny and other essential parts for maybe 3 grand rebuilt or 1200 at the most junkyard. and if you buy it with a manual you get a smaller engine.

Ahh gotta love big overbuilt American Transmissions. Mine can take 100 lb/ft more than stock without any issues a fully built one for about $2500 USD can get me one capable of 1000lb/ft. Remember HP means little to nothing in a transmission.

Because fom what i read, that one hooked up to the 2.4L 4 cylinder. if it will attatch to the V6 then that one will definetly be an option because i know first hand about Getrag's reliability.

I've actually done a trans job on a 3.1 V6 although it was an Automatic and I can tell you it isn't that difficult of a job if you have the proper equipment, in your home garage it may be difficult since you have to remove the sub frame/ Cross member and support the engine from the top then remove all the bell housing bolts, 2 of which reguire like a 14 inch extention to get too. lets just say Flex joint sockets are a godsend in such a job. Any how if you are good and have a lift and trans jack you can get the old one out in 45 minutes tops if it's your first one. (this guy bought a replacement junk yard tranny that shot out in a week so we had to do it again.) so with the conversion to manual i.e. cut out the firewall, install clutch master cylinder, Reflash ECU, then install transaxle then Allignment and your done.

Well, i spent most of the day today workin on what I call my Blacout Project, although its only half done. Ever since i got the car i have wanted to black out the head and tail lights, but the new housings for the taillights were just way too expensive right now. But on sunday night i was at a party and i was talkin to this girl who has a Grand Am SE and her taillights were all blacked out and so i was askin her how she did it. Its just this kit she picked up, a do it yourself kind of thing. So after i paid my bills this mornin i hopped in the car and went to pick up the kit. It took like 3 hours, but there was a lot of wait time involved. The finish product is exactly how i wanted it to be. In a few weeks ill go in and order the headlight covers, but im satisfied with this for now.

that's pretty cool, you should do the center brake light aswell. what is it like thinned out spray paint? if so I would have been lazy and done it on the car...

im gunna do the center brake light but i didnt wanna take the time to do it once i got the taillights on and decided the center one needed to be done too, it was just too late to deal with it. im not sure what it is, its a spray paint type can but the stuff is made especially for blacking out the taillights.

Just make sure you didn't make them too dark. All it's going to take is a state trooper having a bad day to make your project all for nothing. I'm sure the lenses for your car are somewhere in the neighborhood of 116 bucks a peice plus another 50 for the third brake light.

I hope you don't plan on doing the headlights too because then cops are going to have a field day with your car. :|

other than that little warning it looks like a vast improvement over the stock red lenses. I'm just glad you didn't go rice and get the clear corners :puke:

i think the Grand am's 5 speed for the V6 was only available until 2002, when the TA died.

in fact, i do plan on blacking out the headlights as well, but only with snap on covers. my car is going to be so fucking illegal by the time i get done with it, and im fully aware of it. add to the head and taillights a 5% (or 95%, however you look at it) tint on all the windows (legal limit is 20%) and an exhaust and stereo that is bound to break sound pollution laws, and my lead foot, ill be way over the legal line. but it doesnt much matter to me, if i get pulled over for any of the styling mods, ill just make my eyes all wide and play innocent. my honda that i had before my GAGT was even more illegal and the "playing dumb" worked numerous times. guess this is where it pays to be a girl?

now really it was that pansy ass dipshit Lars that was the most outspoken on the issue. They really lost alot of fans over that. I like Metallica as much as the next guy because listening to them is usually a male rite of passage. Country is still complete crap, and only worth listening to if the wife makes you and you're getting lucky afterwords.
For me though it's classic rock if rock, unless it's:

1.) Finger Eleven
2.) HIM
3.) Turbonegro
4.) System of a Down, NIN, or A perfect circle

Otherwise I dig Classical... and 80's shyte.
