Cool, I don't think you can fit to many groceries in it though.

I think the guy don't uses the car to go shopping... so the boot space is irrelevant.
At least.. I wouldn't! :)

Awesome to catch it in the wild. What a great little machine. I wish they sold more of them stateside as road legal kit-cars - that way you could get some of the thousand of civic tuners to make that thing even more powerful - as in upwards of 400BHP. (a feat quite common in the tuned-civic world of america). 800bhp/ton? that would be rediculous.

What's the point of having 400 hp when, as Clarkson proved, a 300 hp. model can tare your face off? The Atom is an insane machine and I desperately want one.

True. But they cost a whole lot more. I look at the Atom like a sports bike. It has no other point except to get you from point A to point B very very fucking quickly.

It's like a weekend Ferrari, except that it costs 1/10 as much, and it'll blow the doors off of just about any Ferrari.

Was he wearing a helmet when he drove it? Pretty much a motorcyle with four wheels, just like jeremy compared.

LOL, the photo process went like this:
I was walking down the street minding my own business. Then that little gem came to light!! I had my mates digi camera with me. Believe it or not, my first thought, was "I need to get some pics for JW lol"
I bent down to tie my shoes up which were already done up lol. In that process I scanned the drive and house to see if anyone was about. Had a quick scan of the surrounding houses.
All was clear, so I went in for the kill. The camera was primed and ready. I decided to act as if I was going to the front door, but as I reached it, I turned and lined up the shot.
"Click" one taken. What a relief, no matter what I have one. I decide to go for a second. Then I hear a creaking...
I freeze for a second, where abouts did it come from  I have my back to the sound, so I look over my shoulder, to see a rather large (as is strong, not fat) bloke coming out of the side gate.
I assess the situation. Friend or enemy? After all if you own an Atom, you love cars!!
His pace is quickening, I decide that he is not going to let me explain my actions, so I dart around the car and back onto the road.
A quick glance over the shoulder confirms that he has not followed me. I quickly slow down and pretend that I was not scared  As I walk on, a smile comes to my face as I know I have a pic 8)
sweetie81, I don't work for Lamborghini, I just helped Jabba out when his Diablo was not feeling so well, and pissing coolant all over the floor. As a thankyou I got my title. There is another Lamborghini mechanic about, but sadly he no longer posts!

haha.....thats a nice little story jon, I can relate to it  I usually check out the surrounds first also and try to work out if the owner is nearby - you get a sense for it after awhile :D
I wouldn't have run away though, if I get 'caught' I usually just give them a compliment about the car and ask if they mind if I take a couple of pics  I have only been 'rejected' once so far - by an Asian guy in a 996TT at the petrol station who said I shouldn't take pics :?

Sweetie81: Dont worry, i asked jon exactly the same thing when i saw him on here for the first time (just without the pretty please  ).

I would have acted differently if I had not been trespassing!!! I don't think he had a problem with the photo taking, more of the fact I was on his property lol He did not see that I had a camera, so it could have looked like I was scoping the car out -(to steal e.t.c)- If I saw someone on my drive taking a close look at my car, I sure as hell would not give the person a chance to explain.

How does a large bloke fit in such a small machine??????
It must be a ridiculous sight to see

...a thief scouting for cars maybe. :)
I think that was his initial thought. Perhaps if he had seen me take the photo then he would have understood. However, he saw me trying to scope out a good angle, which would have looked decidely shifty!!
I may go back for a second ninja mission 0X

Very nice find, and very well done for risking your neck to get a pic!
I'd love an atom for the weekends if i had the money (or indeed a drivers license for that matter!)

Cool story!!
The car next to the Atom is an A4 Avant I think, no?
It's strange that someone has trouble with you taking pics of their car, ok if it was really parked at the side of the house... but I can see the road isn't that far so you weren't troubling them or anything.

An Audi and an XJ Jag.
He had every right to be pissed; a) I was on his property b) All he saw was me crouched over his car lol c) I ran off like a wuss haha

Ah ok, the XJ was also on his property, I presumed that was the street and the Atom was really close-by
jon_s
03-30-2005, 06:19 PM
No, you presumed correct. The Jag was parked on the road.
I think it was more that I cought his off guard. It is not like he saw me out of a window and came out. He was just coming out of the side gate. When he opened the door he was greeted with my backside lol
Actually with a car like that, unless he is a complete tosser, he would most likely have no problem with a fellow auto enthusiast gawking and taking pictures.
If he had been pissed, it is his loss - not yours.
What does he expect parking an Ariel within sight of the road? And if the Jag is on the road, then unless his property line goes to the road - and there is no council easment or anything, and you didn't scale a fence, wall or gate - why would be angry?
I say go back and have a chat with the bloke...

I don't know how many Ferrari owners really want to push on over 120 mph on public roads just to prove a point. Especially when you consider that the supercharged Atom will completely smoke just about any road-going Ferrari from 0 to 120 mph and through the twisties.
^^^ - then what about on the freeway on the way home :P

funny stories and a great sighting! but seriously, now that you know where the guy lives, when are we meeting up to steal it? lol :o  :P
Ive had stuff like that happen on several occasions. the time that i was most worried was when i was taking pictures of a blinged out escalade..or was it an excursion and i didnt know that the owner was inside (ultra dark tints) and he started asking me questions as if i were some sort of Cop doing surveilance on him! i was like dude you got a nice whip and Im just snapping some pics for my collection. just personal use, theyre not getting published or anything! He said ok, but stop taking more pictures so i stopped. Unfortunately they all came out blurry so I went through all that for nothing! another time a guy reversed up the street to tell me to delete the picture i took of his modified starion, i immediately showed him my deleting his picture and said whatever its only a starion. he gave me a mean grill and drove away.

You should have just asked him if it was his or something. Maybe introduce him to JW so that he posts in the "what do you drive" thread.
