well to make my story short:
i moved to the US a year ago i sold my 300zx and i want another car.
i know of this 2002 MG TF in mexico for 22k which can b negociated for 21 at least, and since i am mexican i can drive that car here no prob.
the car is almost new and the color is very nice too.
my main question is do u guys know of aftermarket peices for it. like chip intake exaust. etc...?
my other question is what do u guys think about it, only driving wise, cuase i like the outside alot, so its just a thing about the driving, i would drive it but its in mexico and im just making up my mind, but i got my dads OK.
do u have any vids of this car?
and depending on ur answers on these questions i will have some more about other options but this first.
thanks alot everyone i hope i get good responses.
any specific question u guys have please ask.
thanks again here is the link.

While I like the MG, I dont' know of much about tuning one. If I were you, I'd get the very similar MX5 Miata. There is a huge following or the Miata and you could probably damn near build one with aftermarket parts. Probably much cheaper than the MG too.

Sorry  missed that post of yours
At the age of 15 I havent even thought about cars at all

Dont know about MG much but would take Miata as 666fast says. Mazda could be more relyable than MG IMO.

about the miata its a no no for me. i think its alright but not a big fan i dont know why, it just doesnt seem to attract to me like to own one.
and yea ronin i have done the searching and found nothing, in fact the mg-rover page doesnt work right now, or is it just me?
and i asked my friend a mechanic, he has this awsome shop, and he hasnt heard much either, he knows the owner that is selling the car so he might go test drive it or something. and belive me in person this car is muuch better than in pics, it lookes more "special", it looks great. special i mean because as u can tell, not many people have driven it from the replys, or know much about it which i think makes it a bit more special, i dont know.
anywaymy dad is coming back from poland (where he is working right now) april 1st so ill talk about my future car with him when he gets here, i just wanted to know something about this car b4 i talked him into it alot, if not i have lots of other choices in mind aroin the 20k range...
thanks

Oscar, You have the knack of looking for cars that aren't sold in the US. :D

What happened to your plans for the Audi A3?

Again the issues are the same: servicing costs, parts availability, insurance - a) will you get it in the first place as it is a car not sold here and b) HOw much is it going to cost you?

And insurance cost for an "exotic" in the US... the insurance companies know all the tricks.. ;)

haha samero yea ur right, i guess im looking for more unique or rare cars here... although i hope i dont end up with a car i dont really want, cause my dad does stuff suddenlly, i hope that is not the case here, cause as u know im a bit confusing and change mind often, so i hope he just doesnt go head and buy a car without me knowing..., he has done this with other things.
the s3 plans well the s3 wasnt all that great as i thought, i saw one a little while ago, its cool but for the price it could b better.
and about insurance, well since we are just living here, we arent residents, my dad is the only one with the work visa, so we just get a "special insurance" from the same mexican insurance, it just sais that it is responsible even if something happens out of mexico as far as i know. and well it is not expensive comparing to normal US insurance rates.
what do u mean RC?
and thanks arman, i think i remember that vid :)
and yea ive been cheking out that page, well not that one since that is the MGF not the TF its newer.

thanks!

**edit**
i just wanna say that there is a possibility of all my ideas to go down the drain, my dad can cause this. i just wanna make sure cause people can later think im just BSing with my posts cause i dont have the car i talked about.
hope u understand

A friend of mine got a MGF soft top, and if you are wondering about things as handling I can tell you its a fun car....its very nimble to drive and behave nice when driving it on its limits.......
And the TF is imo even better handling wise. The MGf has a hydragas suspension, but when MG did the facelift they wanted to go to a conventional suspension system, so they had to completely redesign it, which was an improvement handling wise. But the downside is, the TF lost quite some comfort compared to the f.

its a fun and pretty cool looking car for this type of car, looks better than a miata for sure, but I think the miata is a better car......
Quality wise the Miata is defenitely a better car. Handling wise the Miata is also a very fun car to drive. But I don't know if it's better or worse than the MG (I never had a chance to drive it long enough). And looks, that's a personal thing, but I prefer the looks of the TF above the Miata, it looks more special, though the new model looks really good.

well if u like the F brembo then i guess the TF is even better. which is good.
and Wut thanks i didnt know the exact differecne between them and well not so much comfort.. pff i can live with that  and i agree with u i think the mg looks better than the miata too, and what do u mean by quality wise? as i interior materials?

and so far i havent heard any negativtive things about it so so far im sticking with this car.
oh and from the pics of the cars can anyone notice what TF it is? hopefully the 160 but im not sure. the 160 supposelly does 0-60 in like 7 seconds which i think is not bad at all, its about normal good performance...
wel thanks 4 replys guys but i wish tiff or someone has driven it!.

I mean build quality and also reliability. If you have a Miata and a TF for about 5 years. I think you'll have had more costs servicing the TF.

As for the blue TF you want to buy. I'm not 100% sure it's a 160 as claimed, cause a TF 160 has a '160' badge on the rear next to the 'TF' badge. But it's possible the owner just let the 160 badge being removed.

ohh thanks.

are there any other noticable differences between them? like lower or something? because i really hope its the 160 cause the 135 is significately slower.

thanks for the badge detail i havent noticed that.

I don't think there are other noticable outside differences between them. You'll just have to ask for a test drive and find out ;)

The TF is a great car for what it is, but I have a feeling that it may well be more of a hassle here in the US than it's worth. The K-series engines have been around for eons, but to my knowledge never sold in the US. As a result, spare parts, upgrades, etc...etc...will probably be few and far between. If you're looking for something a bit exotic, but still reasonably priced, think about some of the cars that are available in the American marketplace. I'm somewhat biased as I've currently got an RX8 parked in the drive, but I would suggest you look at some used RX8s. I've seen them for as little as 16k in the Detroit area. Replacement parts and upgrades are readily available, but...and it is a big but...the rotary engines are not known for being particularly reliable. That being said, I haven't heard any horror stories about the Renesis unit as of yet. Anyway, the RX8 is a bit less common on the streets around here than the 350Z and Crossfire, so it's still pretty exotic and exciting when you see one on the road.

Oscar, I am a Brit and I would never buy anything from MG Rover. That might give you some insight as to what I think of Rover group products.

The company I work for used to own Rover cars. As a consequence we get very good deals on Rovers and MGs (upto 33% discount, depending on what modesl they can't sell at the time) and thus a lot of people I work with have owned these cars in the past. Nobody has anything very positive to say about MG or Rover cars.

Build quality and reliability are not too bad, but we are talking similar to Chevy or Pontiac.

Do not confuse this MG car with the new MINI - different companies completely, in case you didnt know!

You would be much better with a Miata or an MR2 IMHO. Mazdaspeed Miata yum yum

You can pick up a Z3 (maybe a 3.0i, definately a 2.8 or 2.5) or a TT 180hp for the same money as you are looking at paying for the MG!!!
