the McLaren was official. They have it on the guiness record book. I saw a vid where they filmed top speed with the guys from the guiness book.

From what I read, because Nardo is banked, the speed that the CCR reached is more impressive because of the lateral Gs and the fact that it's scrubbing speed around the turn. Not being familiar with Nardo, is it a complete circle without straights? If it's got straights, I would think the top speed was measured at the end of a straight rather than during a bank. The article said the F1 top speed was measured on a long stretch.

Also, the video says it was a prototype car? Is that an "official" record then, since it's not a true production car?

McLaren is still my dream car, but hell, hand me the keys to the Konigsegg and I'm not complaining - that guy in Gumball Rally - USA, seemed to have nothing but problems with his Konigsegg though. I wonder what the day to day reliability on the F1 is...I heard it overheats at less than 60mph. =) Darn super exotics. =)

How many years have passed since McLaren established the record? At least 6 years?

BMW M Power!

EDIT: Just read the prior posting under Car Chat...answered my question about Nardo, sort of. So, there's no straights on Nardo....and I guess the record setting F1 was a prototype also? I thought those XP trims were available for purchase though?

Argh...too much thinking...McLaren is still my fav, how can you argue with passion and personal preference? Technology will always continue to advance...although here, it seems the CCR did it with a little old fashioned brute force - horsepower. :D

Very cool video,
If I remember correctly, the McLaren had no tires left by the end of its run. Would be interesting to see how this tires held off after 388km run.

thanks for posting the video.

I just heard;
the adjustments of the speedo in McLaren was a bit wrong, so the 391kph run is unofficial.. It's a little sad for me..

But,
WTF.. Like stan said it has been produced for about 6years or more.. Its the most city useable supercar.. You have the largest luggage. What else..

After six years, I dont care whether a new supercar is faster than it or not..

McLaren F1 is the KING! And will always be.. Long Live BMW POWER! ;)

Come on!! How often do we a see a car whose name ends in, Egg?! Now the REN seems really boring and just plain out of date.
