I realize though that the Corrado is one hell of a track car, and has a lot of potential for suspension tuning. I can say i don't know a darn thing about the 2.3L.

the G60 had a 2.3L Supercharged engine....i believe. pretty weird for a VW, don't ya think? supposedly the SLC VR6 (as in this video) was a much better car...with better suspension and everything.

The VR6 engine is definitively better in term of performance and reliability. The sound of the engine is simply awesome. I precisely have one of my friends who sells his Corrado. It had a swap G60 engine to VR6 engine.

If anybody are interested by the car PM me.

Looks like an S3 with a jetta front end. It'de be cool to have that in the VW lineup though.

why would he ever do that?? the VR6 is such a piece of crap, personally i have never heard anything good about it.

My friend bought his Corrado in 2003 with the swap already installed. He used only the car in summer and he never had a problem with the VR6 engine. Perhaps his car is an exception.

lol...

thanks for the video of the corrado. Which reminds me, my friends cousin had a sick built one until he sold it. One of the best ones I've seen in my neighborhood too.

btw...when was this video aired anyhow?

Regarding what engines were available, keep in mind that this car was sold outside the states as well. It was sold in Germany with 2.0L 8v (same engine as in Golf/Jetta III) late in it's life. Initially, it came with both the G60 and either the 1.8 or 2.0L 16V out of the GTI II.

Regarding its road coarse potential, with some basic suspension and brake mods (i.e. no coil over or enlarges rotors/calipers), exhaust and chip, I have consistently been able (over several years, at more than 1 road coarse) to lap near the top of any group of stock E46 M3s.

Regarding the cars sales success, I think VW was targeting the US market primarily with this car. Obviously it didn't work in a large enough scale. However, in the UK the continued to sell well right up to the end...
