Has this image been photoshopped? I need the expertise of the Jabbasworld folks on this one!

umm ... the second pic is taken from a diff angle and elevation ... it looks real
and go look at this ... http://images.google.com/images?q=upsala%20glacier&hl=en&lr=&sa=N&tab=wi there are some pics from diff locations ...
its prolly real ..

Frankly, it's not surprising. The glaciers are melting at an alarming rate.

Look at pics about Mount Killamanjaro in Africa, the ice cap is almost done and it was totally frozen over just 50 years ago.
Odd how there are only 1928 vs 2004 pictures... where are the 1930, 1950, 1960 or even 1970 or 1980 images.
Looks to be yet another eco-fraud attempt... :P

it takes time to melt such large masses of ice you know......
Doesn't matter - there had to be some visual record of progress - I say its a fraud... :) How come the entire ice field is gone, yet the peaks show the same glacier and ice cap patterns 80 years later.
If the valley ice field has melted then the peak glaciers would also surely show signs of change...
I call PS BS... :)
Or at the very least it is trick photography using the angle of the shot... and what they are protraying is just the front edge of the galcier having retreated a few hundred feet - but try give the impression and entire ice-field has melted.

The slight change of position with depth of field adjustment can give a very different impression of the scale of the glaier retreat.
As you have said - glaciers do receed and grow noticably naturally over time.
Afterall, ice ages are not premanent in geological time scale terms.
^^^ yeah - I said PS or photo BS - as in taken from a slightly different angle to exagerate whatever changes have taken place... ;)
Manipulaiton for publicity... :P

There's still a bit of a problem with your original argument based on the fact that the peaks of the mountains still have ice/snow on them. As you go up, every 1000 feet is roughly a 10 degree change (if memory serves me), so even if the glacier in the valley floor is subjected to above-freezing temperatures and has been melting, it is quite possible that the peaks may still be at sub-freezing temperatures, preventing them from melting.
^^ - yes this is true - but unlikely that the the shape with remain unchanged in such close proximity to other formations that have been so heavily impacted by temp changes.
Afterall, if the temp below the snow line changed dramatically then the temp above the snow line should show similar changes - if the changes are global in nature - as is inferred
Otherwise, the changes are rather local in nature, and this is not proof of global warming - so should not be used as evidence in an Kyoto discussions.. :P ;)
lol the angle doesnt change the fact that the ice is gone.....this glacier decrease as much as 200 meters a year, its not BS or PS.....
It also not proof of a global catastrophe - but rather a a local change :)
Besides, why they should be happy - they might pickup alluvial diamonds or nuggets of gold in the tallus and scree.. :P
Really not sure if it's PS. Even if it's not, the earth goes through natural climate changes. We only really have very acurate climate data from over the last 100 years or so, which makes determineing if their is indeed a significant change going on very difficult. Lets not forget there was an Ice age 10,000 years ago. And that was a huge climate shift compared to what small changes we are experiencing now. And correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think mankind had too much to do with that one!
