View Full Version : Autocar uncovers the next X-type
'Jaguar is poised to give the green light to a shock new high-roof 'crossover' 4x4 that could replace the X-type' - that's how Autocar's world exclusive scoop opens this week. Following in the tracks of Mercedes' R-class and BMW's recently-announced 'SFC' vehicle, this new breed of Jag will combine 'the utility of an MPV with four-wheel-drive and the slick lines of an upmarket estate.' It could be on sale as early as 2007 - and you can read about it this week.
'US dealers are crying out for some kind of crossover,' explains news editor Hilton Holloway, 'but it won't be forced on the marque. For once, it is perfectly placed to meet market trends, having the components at its disposal to create a spacious, luxurious high-roof four-wheel-drive vehicle - with up to seven seats.

nothing about jag is crossover, or suv. Its just not right! it dosent even have any
jag lines, or looks. :?
Soon the sporting car companies will have some kind of revelation - and see a "market niche" for a sporting sedan or coupe... ;) :P
If you want a mini-van, buy a Ford... not a Jag... oops... jag is Ford.. :P
So - Ferrari will need an SUV really soon to "fill the need"... hehehe

what's happening to the car industry??? :? now it seems all the manufacturers must have a kind of crossover that doesn't have the regular acronyms as suv, mpv, and this last one I think it's a waste of materials, engineering and manufacturing time because it won't survive for a long time
as RC says... now ferrari will make an suv, after porsche making the cayenne... :|

only in F1 and Automatic though, so that all the real pricks can drive it.

I don't like the way the car industry is going in terms of this SUV/Crossover-craze. Companies are jumping on the bandwagon to make a quick profit, but for certain brands like Jaguar, this is going tarnish their image and prestige in the long run. They also risk alienating the current owners in an attempt to attract new customers.

Many enthusiasts didn't like the cayenne, but without it, there would never have been a Carrera GT, or arguarbly GT3 RS, and the newer models may not have been as good.
People may not like it, but it will help the company in the long run definately and maybe we'll see something along the lines of the XJ220 in 5-10 years time.... how knows?
^^^ not always true though.
Look at Fiat and Alfa - for decades they have been selling shit and still no funds for a decent halo car... ;)
^^ yep - Jag are just a very expensive Ford... Aston Martin is a snobs Ford... Land Rover is a yuppies Ford... Lincoln is an expensive Ford... Mercury is an over-priced Ford... Ford is the Henry Ford... ;) .. and Mazda is a cheap Ford... Volvo is the ecentric socialist euro-cousin... :P
All in all rather bland and boring line-up.. heheh ;)

Not really - Volvo invented the "safe and boring" and exportd it to the world in the 70's... ever since the first Vulva wagons appeared - boxy, but good... :P car makers have been trying to emulate the crap.
Why do you think even GT4 includes a crap Volvo wagon... ;)
BTW - it is estimated that if they pulled all the 80's and 90's Volvos off the road in Europe - approximately 56% of the road congestion could be eliminated - just through space savings achieved by getting rid of Volvo bumpers ;)
