View Full Version : My new ride (2 new vids, drive away and fly by clip)
Hey guys, well as some of you know the saxo vtr i had has gone.also you probably saw my sig.....anyway i picked my new car up
Its a 2001 ford fiesta zetec S which has a 1.6 16v engine and like the saxo it still weighs less than a ton...about 976kg apparently.
i spoke to the guy again who sold it to me and it has a re-mapped ECU by ford racing development or sumthin like that.so it has a bit more go go about it lol
First of all it has to be the custom shot right? lol

It looks sweet. I love the colour. How does it handle/go?
EDIT: Muahahahahaha!!! I beat TT to it.
Finally! Nothing against the Saxo, I had a 106 myself, but the Fiesta is a more gown up car, and better quality wise too!
It looks nice and although probably the Saxo chassis is a bit better, this one should grant plenty of fun, shouldn't it?
Thanks for the custom shot too ;)

Likewise, well I had two of them a '96 1.5 Diesel which I sold to buy a '98 106GTi (S16 for you, TT). My sister had a fiesta like this one which I drove a few times - I didn't have any problems with my 106s but the Ford is better built and also the Fiesta had that 'bigger car' feel to it.
That's a nice car you have there Danny, and the best colour too IMHO.
So is the Fester quicker than the Saxo? You said it's had an ECU remap. Get it dyno'd lad!
...I had a 1.5D and sold it to buy a 106GTi (S16 for you, TT)...!
Hehe, French isn't my mother language and anyway everybody refer to the GTi as the GTi around here and never the S16 ;)

@TT - I thought it was S16 across the whole of Europe, except UK ? :?
Evidently not!

03-13-2005, 06:23 PM
The ZS book figures come in at 103 bhp. However, the average RR figure for a standard ZS on UKFN is 115bhp. Over 30 people have had their cars tested the highest standard figure was a whopping (considering the quoted figure) 118bhp. However, many people put that down to the variation between different rolling roads.
Without know more about the chip, I would guess that the car COULD be running at around 120bhp but again that also depends on what figures the car was running at standard.
Good choice of car gis. 8)

I thought you were on about MG's for a second there Jon, I was like WTF?
@TT - I thought it was S16 across the whole of Europe, except UK ? :?

S16 stands for 16 soupapes, donc 16 valves. So it's only in France afaik :D

I think its a great little car as I told you last night, and the colour really is very ncie :D
I hope you continue to have fun with it - I'm sure you will
THANKS GUYS for your kind words
BADMIHAI - it handles and goes very nicely,it IS quicker than the saxo by quite a bit i think.the front tyres need changing so when they are done im sure i will see a difference in the handling
TT - yes it should grant plenty of fun,it has done already and i only had it like 36 hours,LOL
TransAm2001 - as said above i think it is quicker than the saxo, more power means it has to be.lol
jon - i was told the power rating of 103hp is wrong, ford have a habbit of saying they have less power than they actually have.and the rating of 115hp i can imagine bein true, and with this ECU i can imagine it also bein around 120hp.its a nippy little thing anyway
dingo - of course i will have fun with it
as everyone has mentioned the colour i think you have all figured it is imperial blue that is used on the focus RS,which i think makes the car look great and stand out, plus its fun to be able to say it has the same as the RS,lol
one thing i absolutely love about the car is the gearbox,my god im in heaven with it.its just so perfect, short shift.....with sum spirited driving and changing quick....the changes are really quick with this gearbox. :D

Hey mate, I must say again, Congratulations!!!! Love the colour, and well it is a great leap forward from the saxo, not that it wasn't nice...but this one is muuuch nicer!
anyways, get ready, next year i'm going to europe so i'll be paying a visit, and I want a ride in it! lol

Very nice car, gis! I like the look of your Fiesta. The colour, the wheels, the front grill, the fog lights etc. Sporty, but not over the top. Just perfect for this car. Have fun, mate!
Very nice looking car Danny... I really like the aggressive look it got from the front bumper.. and the color is perfect. Although I liked your Saxo a lot back in it's glory days this looks somehow better.. . Now send it to me to test drive it to see if it is safe for you to drive it. :D  ..
Congrats again Danny on your new car.
Thanks guys, and i will have fun with the car i can promise you that :D
stradale - as you say the car looks great with the rims it has,the bodykit that it has etc etc,its one of those cars that looks nice without adding other bodykit parts replacing the one that is on.i think the rims look great as they are which is why im not going to change them.and the car lowered 60mm on the stock rims just looks great
evo - lol you want to drive it,come on over feel free..of course in exchange i will need to test your evo.....you know, just to see if its fast enough for you,lol
your right though the saxo was good.....but if you live here you wwould know that the only thing that actually made it look different from all the other saxos was the colour,no one had it that i ever saw.....but now i got this car and i just love it :D

Nice little ride. How many hp it develops?
Oh, and here is Portugal, the Peugeot 106 is not S16, but also 106GTI, and the Saxo is called Saxo Cup.
Thanks cooperluke, the hp we arent 100% sure on,book figure is 103hp,but it isnt as the power is usually underated,as jon_s said on the previous page the average number is around 115hp,and with the re-mapped ECU there is a chance it could be around the 120hp area

Great car gis... what mods you got planned?

I dunno about "bigger car" and sub-compact in the same sentence... ;) heheh
Thanks Dan and RC
to answer your question RC,i have plans for mods and will probably do them around the summer time (hopefully)
exhaust system
4-2-1 manifold (maybe)
induction kit
suspension kit
uprated brakes and pads
i was speakin with jon_s last night and we talked about the brakes and we think i could fit escort cosworth brakes on there or the Mondeo V6 brakes (they are between 280-300mm discs i think) so they should stop pretty quick on this light car :D

Lovely car gis, ive always liked the zetec S, especially as they never made a fully balls out xr2 replacement. A friend of mine has just got a brand new 2005 fiesta zetec, although it is only 1.2
I love the colour, and my fav bit of the car has always been the wheels.
Congradts again.
BTW - how many horsies does it have :P j/k :D
cheers AL.....you should stick 115+ horsies in your mini....now THAT would be extreme fun,lol
tom - thanks for the kind words, your friend bought a new 1.2 zetec, whats it liek? i heard they are pretty zippy for a 1.2

Nice car. Those rims are sort of the best choice imo for a Fiesta of that generation. My mom used to have such a Fiesta, but with a 1.4 engine. Those 90 horsies in that little car gave quite some punch and good fun. Thus your remapped 1.6 will be even more fun. I don't know how much the chassis setup of the 1.6 is different compared to the 1.4, but let me give you this advice: when the rear shock absorbers are beginning to show their age, our Fiesta could go really abrupt into oversteer when turning into a bend (and giving no or not much throttle). But if they are still in good condition, the handling was quite fun: lift off oversteer was nicely controllable :D

Its a fast little car, but he doesnt thrash it about, the guy is very slightly older than me, and passed his test a couple of weeks ago, but he has been doing autotesting with minis since the age of 12, so he got the general hang of driving cars early on. He passed his test on the first attempt with only 1 minor. 1 minor for fuck sake!. Needless to say, he's only been driving on the road for a couple of weeks but its like hes been doing it for 10!
jon_s
03-14-2005, 05:29 PM
He won't need to change the wheels. 280mm brakes off a cossy easily fit under them. 300mm Mondeo V6 brakes will also fit with literally a mm of clearance
yeah brakes up to 300mm will fit...300mm just squeeze in as jon said.id be happy finding sum cossie brakes though.so i can keep my rims as they are.i want to keep these rims as i think they look great on the car.2 new tyres on it 2morrow aswell so i should see a nice handling improvement. :D

Shit, sorry danny, a bit late to this thread!
As you know, nice car. Cant beat a fast ford.
I read a mention of EBC greenstuff, ive heard nothing but bad things about greenstuffs on Ford road car brakes, especially focus ones ( i think yours may be similar).
I would give them a miss mate, mintex 1144's are what you want. Although since changing my pads and discs from new standards ive had no problems with spirited road driving.
so you run uprated pads on your focus coombsie? or did i mis-read what u wrote?
anyway if brembo can help me out with sum cossie brakes that would be sweet, cant imagine how they woudl stop my fiesta, lol
what things have you heard about the EBC greenstuff pads?

Ive heard that the EBC greenstuffs are too hard, run too hot and warp/eat brakes especially their poor excuses for 'uprated discs' (milled grooves and drill end indentations on a standard disc).
Although thats what i've heard people say, i cant be sure as ive not had personal experience, my friend had them and the EBC discs on his 1st saxo (previous owners decision) when he got his new Mk2, it braked better and without annoying pedal judder and sound that the EBC's gave.
Also ive read some people's experience that the friction material has fallen away from the backing (hence the pad disintegrating).
All these stories are from people who dont really know what they are talking about though (i feel) but there seem to be a lot of unhappy people with EBC on ffoc.co.uk
I dont know of many race/rally cars that run EBC either, i dont think anyone above club level has. mintex, performance friction, Alcon, AP racing, brembo etc are the only names i trust, ones in racing!
I dont run uprated pads, just standard ford ones, as i dont think i have the need for track ones with my road driving manners, if they are all operating as ford intended.
