Unfoutunaly the SLR Mclaren is dead...the production run of the SLR is over. The SLR was suppose to run for 7 years and to produce 3500 models. God-damn Mclaren they can't work simple things out like the new performance figures and designs for the new models and the replacement for the SLR Mclaren and the P8 And P9

Plllleeeease, give sources when news like this comes around. A degree of credibility definitely goes a long way - much further than an uncited statement.

Oh, interesting. However, i'm not sure if this means the end of production for the current model SLR.. This should be continued, however future projects will be scrapped. Maybe we will see once more the BMW-Mclaren fling, and the newborn a thumping supercar? :P

This doesn't mean the end of production of the actual SLR. It means they're not gonna make any other car. Unfortunetly !!! :( :( :( :(

True , mabye they make some more SLR's like one's ppl already payed for but not many , as i interpretated it , it sounded like they stoped production of the SLR in general if u as me, i don't think there going to make the SLR for 6 more years and not make any other models under the Mclaren badge. im' pretty sure they only made around 300-400 at most. the run was for 7 years and 500 a year so 3500 , and they've only been making then for less for one year.

^ for shame...
Everyone knows that the Woking facility can't handle such production in a short time...it's very logical

Everyone knows that the Woking facility can't handle such production in a short time...it's very logicaluhh not entierly, if u'v seen pics of the production line there like 20 of them in some of the pics
"Around 140 highly qualified staff manufacture up to 500 units of the Gran Turismo at the McLaren Technology Centre, McLaren's HQ, each year. During the vehicle's seven-year lifespan, the plant is intended to produce 3,500 cars. In total, the McLaren Technology Centre measures approximately 22,500 square metres, 4000 of which are utilised for SLR production."

3500 cars, but not at once. To sell 3500 SLR a year, McLaren would have to build an average of 9-10 cars a day non-stop all day, every day. Average of 1 car a day (which is what it is) is much more realistic. Of course, no (hand built) car is really built like that. And 140 staff members probably have specialities so not all of them could probably work at the same time also.

What a shame for all this squabbling to occur - And their new multimillion dollar factory that looks like a piece of art - wasted. It would be nice if they could work that kinda stuff out
(Tho if this means McLaren can team up w/ BMW again, then i might reconsider... )

True , ...
they have not terminated production of the SLR. They will still produce just as many SLRs as they have been already, and for 7 years....if that is the plan.
the ONLY thing they have terminated is development of NEW CARS as join projects.
abs correct, but anyway it's a pity! one supercar less=less competition, hence less progress in supercar performance

maybe because McLaren spending to much money to the F1? so they should stop other projects...

Hardly a waste, the SLR is only a small portion of McLarens business

It's about time...this partnership was destined to fall apart from the beginning. MB and McLaren have completely opposed views of building cars, Mercedes has no clue how to build sportscars...I mean, they think its a good idea to put a torque converter on a supercar.
Hopefully McLaren can team up with another engine provider who is not so controlling in the philosophy of the car...

I don't think I'll lose any sleep over this. On the contrary...
I hope this doesn't mean McLaren won't be building any road cars in the future any more. It would be great if they would design a new sportscar without MB ruining everything. Preferably with a decent BMW powerplant and a manual gearbox.

Dude MB's are Luxury cars and not ment to be a hardcore drive on the edge car but thats what they tried to do with the SLR but still have all the comforts and admenaties of regular MB's but have mind blowing performance and i think they succeed. theres only one with a Manual trannsmisson all the others are semi automatics u kinda need a torque converter for that to work, + you still have control over the gears there's 3 modes, Automatic mode (for every day use), comfort mode (starts car in 2nd gear , faster changes than automatic mode) and Manual mode thus total control of the gear box via shift buttons on back of steering wheel and shifter.
plus i like Mercedes Much Better than BMW, GOD i can't stand them except the M3.

So THAT'S why they can't do anything right in F1 :P :D

Which is still stomped by BMW's SMG gearbox :P I've got news for you though. That "semi"-automatic box, is still an automatic  clicking the buttons on the back of the wheel only allows it to engage the next gear's series of clutch packs :P

Errrm... stick around. I think you'll find out that there are about, what, 5 Mercedes fans in this forum? lol. They're a shit company, producing shit cars, and are only surviving on the strength of their brand, but nothing else.
Audi builds better interiors than Mercedes.
BMW builds better performance cars than Mercedes.
BOTH Audi and BMW build better luxury cars than Mercedes.
Hell, the Phaeton is a better car than the S-class... except that it carried the wrong badge (had it been Four rings, that car would've been a totally different story).
I mean, why buy a merc? S-class? The A8 is better built, the 7-series has more legroom, and both the A8 and the 7 drive better.
Why buy an E-class? The A6 is better built, the 5-series has more legroom, and both the A6 and the 5-series drive better.
Why buy a C-class? The A4 is better built, the new 3-series is flawless, and both the A4 and the 3 drive far better.
...and so on, and so forth. :)

I.E the SLR was a compromise.... niether a hardcore supercar or a fast luxury car.
McLaren do not compromise, hence why this break up can only be good for the company.
If McLaren do build a new car, I think BMW would be the best supplier for the engine as they say the same car philosophy

That's would be surprising to stop the production while it's very new and sold well ... They won't MAYBE sold it for 7 years but certainly more than 1 year :|

Lol. Nice one, but FYI, My wife and I like to look past "the badge" and prefer investing in something that is actually worth the asking price.
Hence, we usually only discuss wether it be a BMW or an Audi. ;)

Mercedes and Mclaren not producing any further cars after the SLR is old news! But I am sure they are not going to scrap the SLR project after less than a year, that would be very very bad for business and the investment made in the car. Even tho AMG is getting use of the engine in some newer models, the millions spent on development and other SLR specific parts would go to waste. This car is selling well, and believe it or not Mercedes is a business  They like to make millions, not lose it.
edit:btw, I agree with merc being outclassed by its competition. The only one I would consider buying is the G55 AMG, baby that truck is mean! :P

mindgam3 already did a good job responding to your post, but I'll add a little bit more.
No shit you need an automatic do have an automatic mode...but only the geniuses at MB would think to put an automatic on what is supposed to be a supercar.

Yes, they aren't meant to be performance cars, hence MB's partnership with a company completely focused on performance and the driver [McLaren] was foolish.

Do you remember the 16 valve 190e's from the late 80's. I would consider them a sports car. However, I would agree that the later models are not so much a sports car anymore, but a luxury car.

anoyone know how much longer the McLaren/Mercedes F1 partnership will last? If you ask me i think BMW should drop Williams and repartner with McLaren.
It seems the BMW's engines are being slowed by the Williams chassis, and the McLaren chassis is being slowed by the Mercedes engine. I say let BMW partner with McLaren so they can finally have the speed to take down the Tifosi and let Mercedes/Williams trip up Jordan and Minardi :P hmmm..i think i just found out how to slow down F1 cars

Yeah, I read the same article in last month's Automobile Mag, basically saying that their partnership is over after the current run of SLRs. They'll continue to make the SLR but no more additional models like originally intended.
Initially they were going to work on three models, with the SLR the top of the line then one mid range and another at the bottom 911 fighter.
