Thinking of getting into biking next year.

I don't know how it is in other countries but in the UK you have to ride anything up to 125cc if you're under 21 for two years before you can ride anything else (that assuming you've passed your test) or if you're over 21 you can take a direct access test which allows you to ride any power, and capacity bike.... i'll be 21 next year so... ;)

Anyway i want to be able to own a supersports 600, eg R6, GSXR600, ZX6R, CB600RR etc etc.... but I don't want to have this much power straight away once i've passed my test.

Whats the ideal bike that is roughly the same size, and has a riding position vaguely similar to a sportsbike but has a lot less power so its easier for me to go from this to a sports bike in a few years.

Any ideas? I was thinking something like a 600 Bandit? Good or bad idea?

Oh, and im 6'4" btw so need something that suits a taller bloke ;)

SV650, best beginner bike, it's light and the v-twin isn't too powerful to scare ya. Only issue i have with it is that the radiator sticks out too much and if you stop it the radiator might get messed up. If you are worried about dropping it a lot then get a katana, you cannot a hurt a katana. haha Steel frame is heavy but VERY hard to damage, it's a good beginner because of that. Good luck!

My friend has that exact same bike, he's also 6'4"! LOL He's loved every minute of it, when the bike ran anyway. He highsided it when a car cut in front of him, panicked, locked the brakes, that whole chestnut.
Since then it hasn't run right, almost a thousand bucks at the bike shop and it still didn't run right. He sent some part to the freakin Netherlands to have it fixed. It now runs, but it isn't very reliable. Other than that, he loves it! LOL

I think the Triumph Speed Four is pure hotness. I'd rock the lot with one.

I would go for the SV650 or GPZ500S, but be careful, these machines are not slow by any means. The SV is 71hp, the GPZ about 50hp, although you are going to find some sportsbikes a little cramped at 6ft4. Best thing to do is sit on them and get a feel for how much 'room' there is. Bandit is a good choice as well. Bikes with conventional handlebars (like mine and the unfaired bikes likethe Bandit) are easier to handle and balance at low speeds, IMHO. Just be careful out there!

edit: by the way, buy a used bike for your first one - it WILL get dropped, even at a petrol station at 1mph you can cause $000's damage on a race replica with all that plastic

I ride the 600 gsxr also... wish i had one in one hand but on the other im 185cm tall and every 20 or 30 minutes i pull over to straighten my BANANA back :wink:

^ the old shape, upto 2002 maybe, but I dunno about the latest ZX 636 R, looks pretty uncomfy to me!!

Apparently, the CBR600RR is supposed to be the least comfy, and the R6 the comfiest of the 05 600s, but that's only what I have read.

I'll be riding all four of the 600 sport bikes (R6, GSXR, ZX-6R, CBR-RR) and the SV1000S in the next few weeks - lots of demo days coming up at local dealerships, so I will give you all a review of the bikes from TAo1's perspective soon!!!
