BMW Group Continues Product Initiative
The BMW Group is continuing its product initiative. At the International Motor Show in Geneva, Helmut Panke, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, announced the development of two new BMW brand model series: "We are using the strength of the BMW Group and pushing emphatically ahead with the extension of the vehicle range. We will be further expanding with two completely new, independent model series, and thus continuing the profitable growth of the BMW Group.
One of the new model series will be providing the market with a product that is innovative on the basis of its interior spatial design, which combines variability and functionality. This vehicle is being developed under the working title of the "space-functional concept". BMW is aiming, with the second model series, to make use of the potential demand opening up in new market segments. The background to this is the increased customer interest for vehicles which combine different characteristics in a form which has not existed until now: these include a higher seat position, the driving properties of a sporting passenger car and the outward appeal of a coupé.
Four world premieres in Geneva show how the product offensive is currently progressing: with the new generation of the BMW 3 Series, the company is continuing the success story of this model series. At the same time, the revised BMW 7 Series is being presented to the public for the first time. The BMW 1 Series now has a particularly powerful engine variant at its disposal in the BMW 130i, and BMW M GmbH is rounding off the BMW 6 Series in the highest power segment with the new BMW M6.
In the first two months of the current financial year, the BMW Group has been able to achieve further increases in volume sales: last month showed the highest sales ever for January, and the current projections for February are also very promising: up to and including February, the increase in sales, according to provisional figures, is around seven percent.

6 series is CLK fighter. HOPEFULLY they are talking about an 8 Series. O that would be glorious. 8 series vs CL now that would be good. I cant really think of another car that they can be making besides a high end sports car.

That space functional concept is going to be a weird mini-van-type thing. They've talked about it before, and the current CEO mentioned something akin to it to FORTUNE magazine a year ago, except he didn't like it to be called a minivan (he doesn't like the word apparently).
I have no clue to the second one. High seat position? Sporting passenger car? Coupe? Hmmm... sounds like an RS4-type car.

Im still holding out for the return of the 8 series. I think BMW should seriously consider a M7 too. Mercedes does pretty well with their sporty S-Class sedans.

Nice idea blah. Bmw's response though, is that the 7 series architecture is not a sports car DNA. It is to longer wheel base, and heavy for them to put the M badge to it. However, this is why there are 760li's, and 4.8is which compete pretty well with the benz AMG rivals.

If the 7 series chasis is not sporting then what the hell is the S-Class? I think that BMW may just feel that they dont want to go into that power battle. Maybe AUDI will, that would be interesting. a RS8, just recently i saw my first S8, looked pretty nice.

What i mean Blah is that BMW believe that the 7 series would not make a proper sportscar. This also implies, that the AMG S class is not a proper sports car, just a fast one, with a lot of luxury. Can you see the difference? It would not be the car of choice, or fun really at a track..

Yeah, that makes sense. The 6 is definitely more in the CLK class than the CL. Although physical size wise the 6 does seem pretty bad. It would be a nice return of the 8 Series though to fight the next generation CL.
And yeah, they have talked about the Mini-van thing for a long time now. So we'll see.
Keep in mind that you could only cut a pie into so many pieces.
A new 8 series will be great news for BMW fans! :D

6-serie direct competitior is CLS
6-serie direct competitior is CLS
i donīt agree with you...
CLS is not a coupe,it is a sedan so its competitor will be the 5 series, particulary the M5 for the CLS 500 and AMG versions.

There are various definitions of what a coupe is and in at least one of them the 6-series doesnt qualify (opening the trunklid directly into the car/coupe not only in the trunk). In other defintions it means that the car won't have a B-pillar and in that case the 3-series Ci isn't a coupe either. Concering the CLS I think it's more that you get the feeling of a coupe. I don't really agree that the CLS competes directly with the 5-series. The 5-series is a real "familycar" with decent room in the backseat. The CLS lacks that, it's actullay more of a car for couples with no or small children.
A CLS can be a mix but by definition it is not a coupe!

Tru but who cares about definitions, cars are about feelings right?

Cars are about passion and emotion.
THe CLS is very nice car in person. Saw a black CLS55 the other day. Id say the CLS competes with the M5 more than anything else. That atleast what the magazines seem to want it to compete with it seems.

Nice!
All that's missing is just an M1, with the I6 M3 engine!! :)
A new BMW Supercar! Thatīs what BMW needs to be on top.
In my opinion...

Just hope that one of this models is the 8 series.
Imagine a M8 CSL.
Maybe the other new model is the one that looks like an Audi Allroad, there are some pictures posted here about this car, but I couldn't find.

i hate the cls, yet i love it. i hate it because it takes sales away from the E-class (and the 5-series.....) but i love it because its looks soooo good. it is the best looking merc in ages! and i think its more of a drivers car than the rest of the mercedes line.

The cl is bigger than the 6 series. There isnt a coupe in the mercedes range that can directly compete with the 6 as for example a 5 series can compete with the E class. Mercedes is trying to convince us that a CLS is a coupe looking car with the functionality of a 4 door sedan,if thats the case then as far as size and price is concernd i think that cls is the 6 series competitor. The clk although presented as the 6 series competitor is actually a better match for the 3 series coupe and for that matter i believe that is relatively overpriced.
