View Full Version : Geneva Motorshow MY pics (some new pics added 08/03, page 3)
Here are my pics from Geneva. 140 high-res for you :)
it's late, I can't really write that much and tomorrow I plan to make a couple of subsections inside the gallery.. but for now, just enjoy!
Used the tripod for most shots (not for the ones where the cars where rotating obviously), with F8.0 most of the time and always the polarizer filter. with so many light sources, the filter is not really 100% usefull, but still works GREAT!

I see that the polarizing filter+tripod combination worked very nicely. After covering the Toronto Auto Show I can appreciate how much work and dedication it takes to shoot/edit/host all those pics. Asweome pictures as always. Thanks TT. 8)

:D:D:D:D:D:D
You are awesome. The pics are great, thanks!
Wow dude.. Awesome pics :D.. I love the lambo concept :D
Thanks guys, I was really frustrated last year. I still had my old camera, no tripod, had to use the flash, the pics were shit :D
This time I promised that either I will take decent ones either I won't take any. Still, a couple are a little bit blurry (orange gallardo from the back, a couple of Brabus and the Maserati 4200 racer), but the rest is ok.
The tripod is definitely mandatory, so you can set aperture at an higher setting (not necessarily 8, but close at least) and obtain a nice sharp car with blurry ppl around..
but it's not as easy as I though LOL. to do so, I need to set the timer, so I won't move the camera by pressing the shutter button. a 2 second timer means that new ppl can come into the picture before the shutters activate. The speed beeing 1 second in most of the cases, it was still enough for some smart ass to mess it up and I had to retake many of them, or just wait a lot!
For the grey Superamerica I had to wait a good 10 minutes since I was across the stand entrance and all the "VIP" kept stanging in the damn way!
Also the polarizer is a nightmare indoor. While in the sun it is absolutely stunning, inside there are tons of different light sources + all the reflecting surfaces of the car, and this mean that, while you kill say 50% of the reflections or glare, you actually enhance another part :D so you need to really rotate it a fraction of a degree at a time untill you find a good balance. Needless to say I couldn't do it for every pic, it was already complicated.
And what about the Brabus stand? Pure nightmare. The ones of you taking pics of cars, should know pretty well how mean black cars can be. The digicamera simply mess up quite often, failing to find the proper focusing. ALL the Brabus pics needed some massive sharpening to become acceptable! And beeing black and shiny, the reflections on them were too much IMO! Still, they look just perfect in the metal :D
I would definitely need to find a way to access the motorshow during the press days LOL, but in the morning it is still ok for the first 90 minutes or so.
For the ones that will come, it is definitely some well invested time/money. I don't remember a Motorshow as good as this one. It is probably just a good moment for nice cars :D

Ok I have just spent parts of the last hour looking through and saving your pics......what an awesome show, and sensational pictures :D
I have to say my favourite is probably the yellow AM Vantage....so sexy  The Zonda F is not far behind though.....can't wait to see it tested :D
So after all the pics I feel like I was actually at the show......not bad for being so far away in fact :)

Just finished dl my pics and the ones of my friend, 600+ pics were made, some nice ones (backstage pics, inside Koeniggsegg), many blurry ones (the blue Zonda and the black cars are indeed a nightmare to take pics of) and babes ...

Great pictures, TT!
You Swiss are lucky to have such an important motorshow. For instance, Ford couldn't be bothered to bring a GT to Amsterdam and only had the red one you see in tests available for Autovisie's supercar paddock, if it weren't for some Danish hack to have damaged it. A different GT apparently was out of the question, but I see that Geneva got a yellow one.

LOL! If it wasn't for the JW Health Warning title, Dani would be known as Con Man...
TT, what concept is this? I don't remember seeing it before. I'm extra curious since it looks like there's a badge with Marcello Gandini's signature just below the a-pillar.
http://www.swisscarsightings.com/geneve2005/thumbs/geneva2005_011.jpg
stmoriter, I am relieved to see it was not only my camera with the black cars.. sadly it is a well known problem, the only way to go is full manual focus, with isn't easy on digicameras to set proprely.
You are just crazy..600 pics! I promise next year I will use a 256 MB card to avoid taking more than 60 or 70 :D
Haha, thanks Alan, actually the Veyron when you can see it in the metal it is like many other cars like the 6 series and so on. Totally different, better proportions, almost a nice car. and as always, even the best pic in the world can't capture a whole car like you can see it while walking around it ;)
... (the other option is just save your pics and show them to my friends saying I took them!!! ). ....
and how would you explain the swisscarsightings.com logo? :P
"yes, a friend from Lausanne asked me if he could post MY pics in his website... and he doesn't have any idea of photoshop, so I edited MY pics with the logo... but it was to late that I forgot to delete the logo from MY pics"... :D
LMAO

As you can see, I am renaming all the pics so ppl can see what the car actually is instead of geneva_xxx and if the #011 wasn't renamed it is because I have no clue LOL. but I will try to look into it later ;)

:D , two friends of mine were helping, together we got 600+ pics, many of them will be in 3 variations , since we all stared at the same b... car
I got the camera of a colleque ( still don't have a digital one :( ) with a 512Mb chip - about the memory you need for 1 day in geneva
I had a closer look at my brabus pics, some are quite good, here a first one (raw data, no sharpening)

TT thx for the effort.
The pics are great! I'm not going to comment on all, because it would take me forever.
I totaly get the Brabus problem. I had the same problem last year on the brabus stand in the Zagreb autoshow.
Thx again, the pics are great!
Oh, that green Stratos looks mean. How does it look in real life?
Actually in real life the Fenomenon Stratos IMO, isn't as good as on the paper or on a monitor. I don't know, it looks bulky in a wrong way. Especially when you quickly check out the real thing beside it...
It's not that bad actually, and would definitely be great if Lancia would have another Stratos one day, but I doubt with today's laws and standards, it will be possible to come close to the original in terms of lines and pure shape
stradale, as for the mistery car, it is a Stola S86 Diamante

Talking about Brabus, once again
Anyway TT, what do you want us to post from now ? You probably posted the best ones and an autoshow isn't the best place to find new angles :D
Can't wait to be the 13th, even if I won't post any pics (I would be the last one who posts them so ...)
LOL, I am sure new angles are possible and I also know I missed some cars like the Alpina ones, the Orca and for sure some more ;)
And it always possible to obtain better results :D

That makes me remember that I managed to miss the CGT at Frankfurt 2003 AND Geneva 2004, both stands were so crowded that I couldn't see it
BTW, all the links to the thumbs in the first post were broken  fixed now.

I went to the Zürich- Porsche dealer talking about the "new" 911 convertible, which I wanted to see - the premiere was in Geneva, therefore I had kind of an appointment with the dealer at the car show and we could enter the "backstage"-area with 3 more Porsche (the 911 cabrio, a Boxter and the CGT :D ); my collegues and I spent almost an hour in there  , including a drink on the terrassse on the 1st floor of the stand.
Similar backstage visits were possible at the Lambo stand (thanks to my colleque), the Bentley stand and of course @ McLaren/Maybach stand ( there were 2 more Maybach (a 57 and probabely a 62) and another SLR in the private showroom)
For some stand, I simply asked to get in and it worked (Koeniggsegg, Aston Martin, Zonda (hard to get in))
No access for the Bugatti (press only) and the Ferrari (arrogant) stand :(
So we have to make more connections to these dealers

One word, TT: awesome! The quality of your pics are really amazing. Polarizing filter and tripod and TT are one hell of a combination! I don't think my pics are even half as good as yours. Which tripod do you use? I just have a new camera and my mini tripod is worthless on it (too small, too unstable). And I'm now looking for a good, light, but not too big (must be easy to carry) one.
And yes a polarizing filter and a car show isn't that easy to use. Those damn lights are everywhere. But still after some fine tuning with the polarizing filter there is some improvement in the image. The problem with those polarizing filters is they thake away some light, so taking pics inside can become a bit tricky without tripod.
And what about the Brabus stand? Pure nightmare. And beeing black and shiny, the reflections on them were too much IMO! Still, they look just perfect in the metal :D
Idd, those Brabus cars were just like black mirrors. Those reflections were a pain in the ass. When I was at the Brabus stand, some cleaning guy was shining up the Brabus Maybach. I didn't saw the point of that, I was already blinded by the car's reflections.
A really nice covarge, with some damn fine pics. After seeing your pics I'm coming to the conclusion we didn't saw everything. We even missed half the Maserati stand and thus didn't saw the MC12, fuck fuck fuck
Well, I will maybe have another chance to see it at the next big international motorshow in Europe. I hope it will be there.

Here are the last pics from Geneva, took quickly this morning.. just 14 of them, but I couldn't miss the two Orca!!
You can find them at the bottom of page 6 of the Geneva special and page 7, enjoy! Imo the Orca C113 is damns sexy, no idea why :D

They work for me too, and thanks for the update :D
I love the Techart 997, beautiful without going over the top :D
There doesn't seem to be many people in the new pictures, was it a quite day? :?
It was FULL of ppl today too, I was there 30 min and was already fed up, but that small tuners room is hard to see ;) so not many ppl ;)
if I came back it was mainly for these two ladies (wich will follow with the regular updates).. not everybody's tastes, but better to take pics of everything:

I like the first of the techart997 pics, very nice reflection of the rooflights on the car :D
LOL, to think I tried to remove them with the filter (only made them less "powerfull" )
