From the Autovisie site:

A London based design studio independently revives the Lancia Stratos with a reinterpretation of the car that will be shown at the Geneva show. Lancia has always been associated with luxurious and stylish cars, until they made a name in rallying during the eighties, with cars like the Stratos. With the introduction of the Thesis Lancia had announced their strategy was to go back to their old principles. Besides, Lancia doesn't have the funds to develop a platform for a new sportscar. The men behind the British design studio are selfproclaimed Stratos fanatics and with their prototype hope to make Lancia reconsider their strategy. For now, Lancia has no plans for a new sportscar.

I'm really curious what this thing looks like! Judging by the photograph I posted it's instantly recognisable as a Stratos. I think chances of Lancia producing a new sportscar are very very slim. Even the wonderful Fulvia concept on the already existing platform of the Fiat Barchetta didn't get the green light. Then I guess a new platform is even less likely. Still, there's no harm in dreaming, just like those Londoners do...

Yep, no chance of this going into production :( But maybe the outcome will be like with the Brera :D (I still wish it had the verticaly lifted doors, as the concept suggested).

I'm really interested how this will look like. With the Geneva show appraching with big steps, I cannot wait!

I dont get it... the British design firm is spending money on a prototype just so that Lancia would reconsider releasing a sports car ? I would love to see a new Stratos :)

TT
02-22-2005, 12:46 PM
Yes TT will be there, but imageshack won't suffer since the pics will go on my website right away ;) (probably already the 3rd or the 4th).. BTW, Lancia concept + Lancia babes... drool ;)

02-22-2005, 01:14 PM
Yeah, but this car won't be on the Lancia stand, so you can forget about this Stratos concept and the Lancia girls in one picture... :( Oh well, that's what photoshop's for, right?

if Lancia made the Fulvia concept and the Stratos, they'd be back in mega style.

i love both cars originally....and i wish they'd bring em back!

they're missing only ONE link to complete the trio, and we all know what i'm talking about.

at least i hope we all do.

the concept picture is jaw dropping, my heard is pounding hard.

The same here :) What's more according to my sources the Stratos WILL be produced in limited numbers. The power should be in the range of the F430.

There's more news and a photogallery on this car on http://www.italiaspeed.com!! I don't know how to directly link to it, but you can find it on the front page.

Very impressive story and gorgeous pictures! I liked this detail: in keeping with the original Stratos that had a Ferrari engine, they fitted this car with...... the V8 of the 360 CS!! 0-100 km/h: 3.8 seconds, top speed of 310 km/h.

Talk about making all other rally cars look ugly. That thing is gorgeous!

Man... the italians are really clawing back lost ground in the car business. Alfa, Maserati, and now Lancia are becoming benchmarks of style.

It's about time I tell yah.

I agree wholeheartedly, but Fenomenon, who designed this car, has no ties whatsoever to Lancia.

mv
03-01-2005, 10:25 AM
But what impresses me even more than the engine is the weight - less than 950kg !!!

But of course the weight would rise if it went into production.

also made some pictures, from the side, the car looks a little cartoonish, but
anyway hat's up for the young chief-designer, the guy is 'only' 27 years old.

I say it's very unlikely. First of all the Fenomenon Holistic Design of UK, as forementioned, as no relationship with Lancia. And even if it were to be made it won't have F430 like power. Fiat Group won't risk having its products cannibalise each other. That's why the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was canceled, that it would threaten the Maserati 4200 range.

First of all, if this car is going to be built, it will not be Lancia who will build it. Lancia simply doesn't have the means to do it. When reading the news about this car and its creator on Italiaspeed and cardesignnews.com closely, it seems that Fenomenon is independently planning to develop this project a little further. One of the problems they would be facing in the event they would want to take it into production would be the engine. Ferrari obviously would refuse to supply those.
I doubt however that Ferrari would lose a lot of F430 customers if this Stratos is going to be built. An F430 won't be suitable for a potholed road or a dirtroad. This Stratos is designed for it. Fenomenon has stated that there are many countries in the world where road conditions make it impossible to drive any of the supercars for sale today. However, due to internet for instance, the people there very well know what great cars are around. Besides the fact that the F430 and the Stratos have a different character and would appeal to a different kind of customer, Ferrari will have little to fear. If the sales of the 360 (CS) and the order books of the F430 are anything to go by, Ferrari will still have far more demand than output.

One last remark, the 8C Competizione hasn't been cancelled. Its fate is hanging in the balance right now. We will soon hear whether it gets the green light or not.

I see. I'd love to see it become a production car...as long as existing details don't change, that is.

interesting concept, but I really don't think it does the Stratos justice. It seems like the concept has the right ideas, but the proportions look all wrong to me. the entire design looks too compressed, and as Iwan said, "cartoonish"

And god I hate those doors. Just cuz of that stupid bar right down the center of the windscreen.

ferrarif1fan89

ugly cncept IMO. i hope if they do produce the stratos, it will look much better than this.

03-04-2005, 11:57 AM
Those of you who think it looks too short probably haven't seen an original Stratos. It has a very short wheelbase to allow for quick direction changes. The fact that the Fenomenon car has that same look about it, only means that they stayed true to the original.

In the end, it's a matter of taste of course.
