I had the 911(997) carrera testdrive last thursday. Could not get the car for a few hours because the porsche company in slo has a contract with the insurance agency that states that they only get the money if the dealer is in the car.(in a case os something going wrong) But the dealer was nice, so I got to drive the car for about 45 minutes with him along side me. It was sooooo good!

You sit so much lower than in the Maser. The steiring is much more direct and as a whole, the car feels really well planted and stabile on the road.

I took it up to 230kmh. Put it into "sport" mode that enables you to play just a little with the back end.It also sharpens the throtle controll. During the test drive, the dealer actually said, that when we'll come to an empty crossroad I should try to make a mini drift, so I'll see how the car feels under serious conditions.....you should see the look on my face, when he said that....and the look on his when I flored the car in third gear on a small road right in the middle of an S curve. He got the famous white knuckles and said I should be carefull
and that my car controll is very good.....

The sound is also good. So raw. At one point I took down the side window and flored the car.....mmmmm, sooo nice. It goes as fast as the maser but the feeling was TOTALY different. The car had a manual transmision, wich was a joy to work with....the clutch is childs play but it took me about a minute to adjust to the low seating position.....the seats were huging me like my granny....

I won't even mention the brakes, wich are sensational...

To sum up: got to drive the car on the highway(the engine is quite torky) and on small curvy streets. The feeling is really awesome, and now I compleetley understand porsche buyers.

The car had quite a few options: the Carrera S susspension, the leather interior, sat nav, the S wheel, the colour (silver) was extra also......

What I liked about the interior is, that they also went retro inside. If you compare the 997 with 996. The 996 interior was much more curvy ( the doors, and the dashboard) but in the 997 it reminds you of the 993. Straight cuts prevail. Really nice.

That's it, hope you enjoyed my little review.

Well, yeah, it sounds nice, but it's damn hard work to get them to trust you.

One slip and you're gone. The dealers are very smart.

.....The dealers are very smart.

they obviously aren't if they let you take the car out :P ....just imagine if they saw the video you made of the Maser and SLK :D

yeah......

I have lots of other videos . For instance: rx8 throwing it's but around, the same with the mercedes e series and the bmw 5 series, some mud action with the land cruiser and climbing steps in the grand cherokee, flying past the camera in the audi a8 at 265kmh, having fun in the saab 93, driving on the edge with the volvo s60r, stuff like that. But all these things are on pal tapes, taken with the "old" camera.

I have to find someone to put this stuff in a digital format. Then you'll see, what fun is all about.....

Dude you just gotta put a film/films together of that stuff, Sounds just amazing and I loved your work with the SLK and the Maser. I really want to see you thrash the E-class and the 5-series and of course the Volvo since I'm Swedish..

265Km/h = 164Mp/h

Edit: Kinda stepped on dingo22:s point. I started writing this before I saw that he had answered the question, sry.

man just think if you had driven the S or a turbo model. How did you like the clutch? I seriously have never felt anything like it, it feels so perfect.

The clutch grabs early and is very easy to get used to. Like I said, it's childs play. It preforms great in the city and while driving fast out on country roads....

I had a small problem when I stopped on a steep hill and had to drive off again. But overcame it with eaze, I just added a gentle push to the throttle and the car glided forward.

It is tricky if you're not used to driving sports cars with very stiff suspension and low sitting position.

I mean, if you're used to a golf or anything else for that matter, it takes you a minute or two to adapt your driving style....

Nice review!! thx komotar

The Maserati vs 911 discussion was held in a Belgian magazine a while ago. The 911 was a 996 but they still preferred it above the Maserati so the 997 will probably walk all over the maser.

But still, it's hard to think of a cooler car in that price range...

Well, in a way, comparing those two is much like comparing apples and oranges.

If we take the look out of the way and start with the seating position.....let me just say that a blind man(or woman, don't wanna get the many feminists here on JW on my back  ) could tell you wether he's sitting in the 911 or the luxurious gt, the Maser.

The masers massive V8 is pulling the nose out in the corners, and if the nose won't get you, the tail certainly will. The line of sanity is very thin in the maser......that is, if you have all the driving aids turned off..... The 997 stays neutral for ages......even with the aids turned off.

awesome stuff again Komotar, you're so lucky :D

hm I never caught that maser vid... you definitely should compile all those other vids. would probably make one hell of a show, I'd love to see that

yeah, the other stuff is cool also....it's just a pain in the as, the conversion from pal tapes to a digital form. I don't have the time for it right now. Look it's 1.46 am and I'm working......I have to finish writing this business contract.......ah forget about it...

anyway thx for the comments.

Alot of people didn't see the maser vid.....it's strange because it's been up in the V V for several weeks now, and it has only been downloaded 20 or so times.....so if you're in the downloading group...go for it....

10 days (less, actually, because it gets here on monday and I'm only getting back on thursday morning). I thing I'll give it to one of the colleagues, because I'll be pretty bussy and just take it for a few hours here and there. Leave me pa phone number on PM ... I hope it stops snowing by then ...
