Hey guys, i just heard from a coworker who just returned from the L.A. area, that one of his buddies there was quoted a DELIVERY DATE of Nov. 17th, 2005 for delivery of the E90 M3.
I would like to know if this dealer was confused and quoted him a date for the standard E90, or if this was indeed for the M3.
It's not mentioned on centernet so i can't confirm through BMW's channels wether this is true or not. So if there is anyone in California that would be so kind as to swing by their local Bimmer dealer and find out for me, that would be great :D
I'm taking this with a grain of salt ATM just due to the fact that this is the fastest M release ever. normally the M's follow the series release by 2-3 years.
(i would ask the salesmen here, but they are all retarded and couldn't tell you a delivery date even if the transport truck was right outside  )

That's impossible. The 330ci (coupe) won't be released here in the UK until NEXT YEAR. That's official from BMW. No way are they going to release the M3 before the coupe.

see, that's what i thought. I had a feeling the sales guy in Cali was wrong (all that smog starts to fuck with your head apparently  ) He probably meant to say Nov, 2006 instead of '05, going by Mindgam3's release date.

Closer to 2015 would have surprised me less. I doubt it. But i sure hope im wrong!

Do you know how to do simple math? The E60 was introduced as an '04 model. the E60 M5 is going to be an '06 model. 6-4=2! wow, what a revelation!
LMAO @ Coombsie  might as well wait for the 6th generation 3 series then

Yeah, exactly. It is usually at least 2 years because BMW stagger release of their lines.
First year will be Sedans only, then Coupes the year after (MY2007), so the M3 would be released as a 2008 Model, but you might get it in 2007.
The E36 had to wait 3 years for the M version in US. The E46 had a similar two year wait.

wait and see, but i think mid 2006.

Umm.... the way i understood it is the 3 series is a four door car and there is not coupe because the 4 series is the coupe version of the 3 series. So aren't we technically waiting for the M4, unless your waiting for a four door version which would be an M3. So i could see it happening, but i havn't seen any real pics or spy pics so i have no clue.

I don't think the US is going to get a 4 series. I am sure there will be a 3 coupe. I don't think they will have the M3 as a 4 door, but they did it with the E36 M3 so who knows. I'm waiting for them to put up more info on the internal site.

The last I heard, the 4 series was canned simply because BMW felt that the name "M3" carried so much weight with it, and there was simply no need to confuse consumers by releasing the super popular M3 as the M4. And IIRC, this is indeed official.

yup no 4 series
they canned that idea
also no 4 door M3
from what i heard the next M3 will be a 2007 model out in late 2006 at the earliest

I almost fell of my chair reading this....
I think the closes possible date is spring 2007.
But from what I hear , the 330 should be quite an entertaining ride, just like the previous one.
I bet it's laptimes will be very similar to the current m3's. Still slower, but very close. imo

I think the Coupé will come out in first half of 2006. At the same time or in the second half - the Convertible, and finally M3 in 2007. To me this order looks most probable. Another reason to hold the M3 at least until 2007 are the releases of M5 and M6 - they won't release a third M car in about a year.

that doesnt sound right esp. with 250-260 ponies
it should cut its 0-60 time down to at best 5.5-5.6
My dealer told me M5 would be here in fall of 04 now we are in winter so i would never listen to a Dealer. Although i could ask the owner since he actually likes to work there. He drives peoples cars from service, takes phone calls. Does everything.

Well, I wasn't thinking so much about the acceleration as I did about the handling part. The previous 330 was a very respected player on the track, and that leeds me to belive that the new 3 series 330 will be even beter (doh) and will be very fast around corners. Remember, I said, that it will still be slower, but very close.
I think the 0-60 time should be around 6 sec.

i want to say that the automatic will hit 60 in about 6.3. I can't recall the exact time off the top pf my head, but the new 330 is going to be just as respected on the track as the current one. I think the reall kicker for that time is the Valvetronic on the new engine. Throttle response times are much better than a throttle body since the air isn't disrupted nearly as much as it is with a butterfly valve. It will still have a throttle plate, but it will only be used in emergency situations.

Nice work tuffguy.
Am i the only one that sees facial expressions in these cars? the E36,46 and 90 all seem to have some form of expression in their front styling.
:| <--E36
the E46 looks like it has one of those squinting glares
and the E90 looks like it has a a wide eyed glare frozen on it's face. Kind of like a 300Lb bouncer daring you to take a step across the rope.
the 2002, E21 and E30 don't really seem too expressive IMO.

^ Nice observation. . .
Yeah, also notice how the grills keep on getting bigger and wider. . . as with the corresponding hood lines.

/\ easiest way to predict what the next 3 or 5 will look like, look at the 7.
The E38 started getting the wider grilles and the enclosed twin headlamps. The E39 and 36 followed. The E46 just expanded a bit more and finally got an aggressive headlight style. The E65 got an even wider set of grilles and headlamps, which made it's way to the E60 and 63, now the E90. When the next 7 comes out in 2008 or 2009, then you will be able to get an inkling as to what the others will form up as.
The 3 series may be BMW's bread winner, but the 7 is the flagship. There fore the 7 gets the special treatment, and the 3 gets the leftovers...which can't be all bad considering the sales figures  14 years on Car and Drivers 10 best list :D

Yeah, that's good.
But they screwed it up already by naming the Z3 the new Z4. They should've just kept the Z3 name.
Keep it simple, like they've done in the past.
The M car should be release in about 2 years after the Sedan is out. So like other's said it would most likely be a 2007 model.

But remember, the E36 had enclosed headlights back in 91 :) .
Yeah, the 7 is the top of the technological ladder. And everything else just gets trickle down.
For example my 88 735i had the newer backlighted gauges on the dash, while my 90 325i still has the old school front lighted gauges. You would think two years down the line they would've put that in. The 3 series didn't get that until the E36 in 91/92.

true. so it doesn't ALWAYS wait for the 7  but if you put an E46, 39 and 38 side by side by side, you would see the family resemblence quite clearly :D These days, it's just much easier to see.

Yeah definitely, same generation, same designer.
I mean it is like the current BMWs, you could clearly tell that they are all ugly :D .
By the way, back to the front pic of all the 3er. I think the E30 looks the best from the front. Definitely the most aggressive.

:P i like the new designs to be honest. I like how they've given a luxury sedan and aggressive stance, look (have you ever seen them at night with just the parking lights on? ) i really think BMW was going in the right direction with the styling. Now that the E90 is out, the lines of the 65, which people have not been the nicest in their criticism of, look like they have really come of age. I think adding the flamefront styling of the Z4 was genious. it really breaks up the monotony of the side panels.
Just give it 2 or 3 more years, they'll grow on you

The E30 does look good. IMO, though, the M3 was the more agressive looking due to it's sharp edged flares over the wheel arches. Only the E46M3GTR looks more intimidating. The E36M3 has probably been the most bland M3 created. but the E46 is my favorite :D

^ Yeah, I could see your point. We'll see in a couple of years. All of the old designs worn on very well over the years. We'll see if the new design holds up.
The Z4 is the only car I like with the new design them.

yeah, there's just something about a long nosed roadster that stirs something mischevious  If you've driven the 3.0 then you really itch for an extra .2Liters and more ponies  i would love to drive an S54 powered Z4.
I think the sexiest thing about that car is the ass end. The sharp wheel arches from the door back... Just imagine it with the trademark M flare..
