Today was one of those beautiful sunny winterdays, so I borrowed my roommates digital camera and went out to take some pics of my city, Groningen. It's not a big city (around 180,000 inhabitants), but it's very lively. Of all the bigger places in the Netherlands Groningen has the lowest average age and it shows. There's an abundance of bars and clubs and it seems like there's always a festival of some kind going on.

The sun was strong but quite low, so some pictures are a bit dark. Sorry about that.

The street I live in. It's fairly quiet, a 10 minute walk to the city centre. It's a popular place to live for students.

Just managed to get the silver Coupé Fiat in the shot as well.

The railway station. Can you spot the bicycle?

The city museum. Not to everyone's taste (not mine anyway), but from the inside it's very impressive. The building has been designed by an Italian architect, but I can't remember his name.

The university's old main building. I sometimes had classes here. The second building houses the largest part of the law faculty. This part is where the law library is located.

And last but not least, the few interesting cars I came across.
Quattroporte V8 evoluzione. It belongs to a doctor and is used very often. I see it regularly.

For all you Porsche fans, this 911 (963?) looked to be in excellent condition.

A nice BMW 760i.

One of two Ghiblis that roar around town every now and then. I love this car!

I haven't written a comment with every picture, so if anyone wants to know something about one of the pictures, don't hesitate to ask.

Nice pics Stradale...I don't think I can recall having seen a Ghibli or the old Quattroporte either for that matter...they're still some of my favorite cars, but only because they're so...Italian hehe.

The Porsche is a 964, I don't think a 963 was ever made.

Lovely city!! And thanks for the Quattroporte and Ghibli pics! So many ppl hates the IV generation of Quattroporte, but IMO it is a very sexy car!

As for the 911, it aint a 964 (963 never existed). Could be a 911 Carrera 3.0 but we need Lakatu or other experts for the details

I love the ghibli, it looks great!
never knew Groningen was such a nice city, i always thought of it as just a bigger version of those farmer's villages in the Northern provinces
lotsa great old buildings there, i dont see alot of those here in Rotterdam (thanks to our friendly neighbours to the east :P )

I guessed 963, because I thought that was prior to the 964, but apparently not. I could see it was an older model than the 964. It did say carrera on the rear, so you could be right, TT.

The Quattroporte is a very sexy car indeed! The noise it makes though is not sexy, it's best described as horny. It's no coincidence you like it, as it's designed by Marcello Gandini, the man who penned the Miura as well! :D

@ Vansquish: haven't these Maseratis been sold in the US or are they incredibly rare there?

LOL That's what a lot of people from the 'Randstad' think. Not long ago I had some friends from Amsterdam and Leiden over and Groningen surprised them on all accounts. They loved the city and the nightlife (whether it's wednesday, thursday, friday or saturday, at 5 a.m. it's still busy at the Grote Markt as all bars and clubs are allowed to stay open for as long as they like).

Lovely city and pictures....I just love the look of the European cities, not sure how to explain it but its different to here :D
The Porsche could be a 911SC (built between '77 and '83) I think....but not 100% certain :?

You definitely should. :D Best time of the year is the summer, when the city is littered with terraces, when there's a festival like Noorderzon or Swinging Groningen going on.

I probably will go to the AutoRAI, since it's almost a tradition to go there with my dad. Even though Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat will be absent, there's enough great stuff to see. Autovisie brought some fine cars to Amsterdam as well (8C Competizione!!! :P ) Are the rest of the Dutch members going as well?

@ Ovi: nice to have another Groninger aboard. Do you study here?

Very nice! I'm guessing it's your first year? I've got my law degree, so I'm not a student anymore.

Good to know there are also going to be some Lancia's at the AutoRAI.

Groningen looks like I nice and beautiful city. I never expected that!

As for the Quattroporte IV and Ghibli. I really like those Gandini Masers. I actually prefer the looks of Quattroporte IV above the current one. It just looks so more aggressive.

They've removed them all now. They have a really hard policy against bicycles know, where your lock is cut through and your bike removed. You can get it back for €15 or so. They are also building a large underground depot for bicycles, but that's gonna take a few more years.....
