the lasting legacy of the Goons...
I saw the car in person today.
It has little visual presence. It has some awesome specs, but doesn't excite at all.
The C5 is a pretty bland car.. the C5 Z06 shares some of that blandness. However, the unique FRC/trunk profile was a bold enough styling departure from the bland fast back that it has a "love it or leave it" effect on those who see it.
This bold styling statement, needed the goods to back it up - and so we see phenominal sales success for the FRC once it became the Z06 package.
The C6 Z has the opposite problem the FRC had - the C6 Z has the power, but no unique style...(wow - sounds like another ZR1 ) and might be over priced. The FRC was "unique" but lacked the power.
After they added power to the FRC, they had a winner... The C6 Z now needs the lloks to back up the power.
The C6 Z just doesn't carry the presence it should.
On a totally different tack, I tried to see what the GM Show staff's views/opinions/knowledge on the "Goons and the Z06 pictures" episode were... and see if somehow a possible sympathetic/understanding view may allow a quick slide behind the wheel of the car.
Alas... the attractive Hooters waitress presenting the car, and the Ken doll "manning" the brochure booth were of the opinion that as I stole the images I got what I deserved.. ;)
Needless to say, that didn't translate into a chance to get in the car - but rather a typical "i am not permitted blah blah blah policy this and that blah blah corporate blah"
Seems that the story making the rounds inside GM and it's affiliates is rather far from the truth and what they admitted to in the Wall Street Journal.
:)
