Things are getting very strange on your side of the pond!

Lincoln drops Super Bowl ad

Ford Motor Co. earlier this week decided to pull a 30-second ad set to air during this weekend's Super Bowl telecast, due to controversy that the ad was insensitive to clergy sex-abuse victims. The ad, for the upcoming Lincoln Mark LT luxury pickup, shows a set of keys left on a collection plate. A clergyman, thinking the LT was a gift, grabs the keys and checks out the LT. A child comes to collect the keys back from him, and the clergyman is seen adding L-T to the bulletin board, interpreted as 'lust' by viewers. The ad would have been Lincolns first during a Super Bowl in over a decade. Ford will instead air a more straightforward ad for the Mustang Convertible that pokes fun at the model's winter introduction. The droptop will reach dealerships within a few weeks.

What the hell??

And cost PD an assload of money that they know is not required to spend. GT4 will sell on it's own reputation, why spend millions for a 30 second commercial during a football game?

Hm, reminds me of a printed ad for first generation of Seat Cordoba that was banned over here:
The photo showed a girl from behind, and her skirt was blown upwards just to show panties. The slogan was "Bad girl from good home". :P
It was banned because "it exploites women sexuality and body"
The world is defenitely going mad :?

me to. and while i think people should loosen up in general, it would probably be offensive to some of the victims in this instance.

In all serious.. people need to grow up. There is nothing in this world you can discuss without offending someone.. Hell some people you can offend just by being.

Actually, thats a major improvement.. I might not be nuts about his work, but at least he doesnt look like a member of the opposite sex and actually performs his own music.

Bit of research, turns out it wasn't the "shake that ass" video, but another one that was banned:

Ofcom has banned the Publicis TV ad for the Renault Megane 225 following complaints from viewers that it mocked people with illnesses, such as Parkinson's disease, which result in body tremors.

The spot featured a number of people in everyday situations shaking uncontrollably as the car passed by.

It was designed to be a follow-up to last year's "shake it" campaign, where people were shown wiggling their bottoms to a Groove Armada track.

Ofcom over-ruled the BACC, which had approved the ad on the basis that the repeat use of the soundtrack would make it clear that it was an extension of the campaign, and banned the ad.

Slightly more understandable, i think ;)

It's has gotten ridiculous though:

DDB London's spot for the Volkswagen Touran was also censured. The ad features a number of badly behaved children who, to the tune of Let's Misbehave, are seen breaking a window, drawing on a wall and dropping a mobile phone into a fish tank.

Thirty viewers complained that the ad could result in copycat behaviour.

Ofcom ruled that the actions of the children were not deliberately malicious but found that the ad was inappropriate for children under the age of eight. It has therefore been banned from transmission around children's programmes.

Heineken has been forced to change its ad starring Ray Liotta following an Ofcom investigation.

The Clemmow Hornby Inge spot showed a stranger appearing at the door of a man who had left some of his pint in the pub the night before. The stranger explained this was a waste as the beer was now 5 per cent alcohol by volume rather than 3.4 per cent.

Ofcom agreed that the central message - that the higher alcoholic strength made the beer better - breached the Advertising Standards Authority code and the ad has been banned.
^ that was a fucking good ad
