And the best part of it is..i have to drive it tomorrow :D i'll catch a little vid of it for the DL group. i can't drive it really hard since it has new front pads/rotors and new rear pads, but you'll still here the sound of the engine

well, this car has 41,000 on her, so i figure she's on her second or third set of brakes by now. I usually see brakes last about 15-20,000 miles. rotors are generally worn to limit each time, unless they are really light on their brakes, then they might make it two rounds of pads. but usually BMWs rotors are too soft to extend past 20,000.

Sucks balls when you have to pay for them, but that's the trade of for having excellent brakes.

But this guy is kind of nursing a bruised wallet (or will be when he pays for the car) and is wishing he got the extended maintenence plan

and yes ferrarifan, these are oem rotors, seeing as how i work for a dealership

$357.. ;) kinda pricey... considering I can get all 4 rotors for my Z06 at $240 INCLUDING shipping and I still have better braking.. :) :P

good to see you too RC. i thought the boards were getting a bit quiet

I've never driven a vette let alone a Z06, and i've only had the M5 around the block to confirm a tire imbalance, so i really couldn't intelligently argue with you over the performance characteristics. but at least in the M5 i can still get all my groceries home in one trip :P :)

Me driving an A6 4.2 testing the Quattro system for school is driving a beast the M5 is like Godzilla.

Just a little update.. i captured the video, and it caught the sound pretty well. There's some background crap that i never heard on the drive but you can hear the engine pretty well.

i just need to edit it a little bit, i got another clip of it idling in my stall when i backed it out later in the day, gave it a gratutious rev  There's just something about hearing 5 liters of 11:1 compression growl, that gives me goosebumps :D

Unless anyone knows of free video hosting, i'll be posting it to the vault in the next day or so. :D

*edit* two things i forgot: i checked the estimate sheet again today, and the rotors were $345, not $357

and when you wath the video, i apologize for the shakeyness and off kilt frames at times, but i had to hold the camera ontop of the steering wheel with my left hand and shift with my right. Because of this, i accidently bounced the rev limiter twice. I wasn't watching the tach since the camera was blocking it.

The fight to perform the pre-delivery inspection has already begun :D last i heard we had two on order

as long as he is still in he can extend it. and i don't think there is a limit to what he can extend it too.

wow, that's pretty trick stuff there. have fun and be safe (luckily those new brakes allow you to do both, as they're a passive safety system.) lucky you - enjoy.

Very nice.

question: how did you get the job at the bmw dealership?

im doing an automotive program here at lincoln tech in maryland and there is an in-house BMW STEP training facility that im going to apply to in november.

thanks.

went through STEP in Phoenix, AZ through UTI. (i went to Arizona Automotive though)

It's intense, but it's worth it. when i went through it, it was 7 months. I don't know what they've added since i graduated in may.

Sent out a bunch of resumes to the dealers on the east coast, since i was tired of the west, and took this one :D

cool, thanks.

when you applied to the STEP program, did you have any ASE tests under your belt? just wondering. i plan to have all 8 passed before i apply... i heard it helps your chances of getting into the program

ZfrkS62
02-14-2005, 01:56 AM
i had one that i passed and 4 pending when i went through the interview. but i had passed them when they accpeted me. ASE's really don't mean a whole lot anymore since the tests are mostly GM related. (especially the brakes test). but make sure you pass A6 Electrical before you take the entrance test. BMW's test is 111 questions if i rememebr right. i think i passed it with a 78%

I really don't think dealers care about them anymore to be honest. Just that you have the BMW factory certifications. But the admissions guys probably will. Make sure you at least get the A6. electrical diagnosis will help alot. especially when you get one that just came from the body shop

Oh, and depending on who you interveiew with. I had to interview with both the top guys from STEP. Brian Nelson and Charles Klasman. If you have to interveiw with both of them, Charles will just sit there while Brian asks the questions. Make sure you look at both of them while you talk. Brian will let you go on and on for awhile and it's impossible to read them, so just stick with your guns and answer them with confidence. I think that's what they really look for. especially when they ask you if you think you're really the one that deserves to get into the program. :|

Good luck with getting in. Let us know how it goes :D

wow, that was extremely helpful! thank you very much for your reply!

i heard that those 2 BMW guys are the only 2 in the nation who do the interviews for STEP applicants, now i know it's true :)

i think i have a very good chance of getting accepted, i have a 4.0 gpa and 100% attendance so far, and i interview very well. one of the BMW instructors at our school here actually came into our class one day and told us about the program which was very helpful, he gave us an idea of exactly how hard the entrance test is and exactly what type of questions they ask you in the interview, basically you have to show how excited you are about bmws and working on them, and you can't hesitate when they ask you questions in the interview

thanks again 8)

ZfrkS62

no problem. You'll interview with one or the other for sure. A few of the guys in my class did an interview with someone else i think, but i'm not sure. I kind of cheated a little bit though

Brian and Charles did the presentation at my school since they were trying to get graduates from other schools, since 98% of the graduate programs for all the manufactuerers were being filled by UTI students.

does Lincoln Tech run the STEP program up there or is it run by the Custom Training Group? Houston, Phoenix and Ontario are run by CTG and they stick the training classes on the UTI campuses.

anyway, i was originally going to do either the Audi or BMW program, but wasn't sure which. the CTG test i took said i was only qualified for the Audi program, but when Brian and Charles did their presentation, i cornered them afterward and told them my plans. Fortunatley i had my resume and letters of recomendation from my instructors on hand (those letters help alot. make sure you get one from all of them). They had borrowed one of the 760Li's from the campus and started talking about the systems on it. I think my amazement instead of indimitation helped alot. They weren't planning on an interview that day but i wasn't going to let them go with out at least having them look at my resume. after school that day we did the interview. I told them about the CTG test and they died of laughter, told me that test is outdated and that they would set up a time for me to swing by the UTI admissions office and take the BMW test.

It's an experience that you won't forget at all.

Feel free to PM me if you have anymore questions.
