actually i think that they are real color photos not digitally colorized...at least some of them. even if these photos are digitally colorized i know for a fact that there are some (very few) real color photos taken during ww1
very interesting pics thanks for the link.
nope the french gov. digitally colourized their archives

It's extremely unlikely that these are color photographs. I don't believe the technology was available widely until much later in the 20th century. On top of that, the colors are too realistic to reflect the color photography that was done even in the early days of color photography. Therefore I'd have to say that these are most likely black and white photographs that have been digitally colorized rather than the archaic, but occasionally still-used technicolor method.

You don't get the colour. You put it in. A bit of advanced Photoshop. Very cool! It gives a better idea of how Europe looked during WWII...or at leasts parts of it.

well colour that you see are in images are based on three things, 2 of the 3 real primary colour, and a shade.
now with this shade you can kinda guess what colours are and how bright it was in that picture, since in these pictures you see people in the military, and from history you know what the military colours of each country is.
You can have a really good guess of what colours are in the b/w photo

WOW
I've heard about this technique before, but in use for movies and cartoons. Never seen it on photos. It just looks great!
I'm not a big fan of war pictures to say the least, but these are really good. Bring the athmosfere over. You can almost hear, feel and smell backgrounds 8) (and no, I haven't been smoking  )
