i know a lot of you guys are sick of this car lol but i found an article on this car at thecarconnection.com. not sure of any of this information is new to you guys but it was the first that i have heard that the veyeron is scheduled to make its return at the Frankfurt motorshow in september of 2005. i suppose it will be the production version??

 link: http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?article=8052&sid=178&n=158

not sure whats with all the lights on the front of the car in the pics but i have to say i am very interested to see what ends up happening.

it has definitly been a LONG time coming. but i dont want to get my hopes up

Well, it is an AWD car... so i guess the one with the lights is Buggati Veyron 'Rally Spec' lmao. That would be one expensive rally car.

the last issue of CAR Magazine had an all Black Veyron....which looked INCREDIBLE!

All hail the Veyron!

Can't wait to get the last CAR issue.

I'm going to buy it tomorrow......

oh, and if and when the veyron does come out, it better be good. I'm just affraid of the car being too heavy.....and not gripping in corners like the CGT or the Enzo............yeah, yeah, I know it will have 4wd, but still.....

interesting catch. The lights have me thinking it might just be doing some bad-weather testing (there is snow on the ground) and used the extra lights to highlight windy side roads or w/e

Nope

The best we have is Ferrari&Maserati and Porsche dealership.

I did one, the other one is "in the making".

I will have to agree with you about the lights cause if they put millions in testing it's aerodynamics, why ruin it with four huge lights on the nose?

Well perhaps this is good news then. I mean if there is snow on the ground, and a 1001ps supercar is out and about and not crashed, then the handling must be getting pretty sorted. Unlike last time it was shown publicly and spun on the track...

It's an over engineered and overpriced car that has had way too much hype and not much delivered....

Even if all the performance claims are met, i'm not too sure if it can outgun all the other supercars, especially when they can do it with 6/10 the power and 1/2 the drive

So, that was how they solved the cooling problems eh...

Nah, seriously I'm not too excited about this car. Too much troubles, too heavy and not that good looking IMO... They focused too much on hp and top speed figures. I doubt the handling is that great...

Not that I'm complaining, but at least on the street 1001hp are useless... These power-wars should stop. Still, I'd like to see a test from Evo or any other mag. :)

I see this car as a Ford GT compared to a GT3 RS, its got bucket loads more power than the GT3 RS (aka Carrera GT and Enzo) yet cant handle as well, but in the end laps pretty similarly to the better handling car mostly because of its power advantage.

This car will shock people when it comes out, especially those saying its too heavy and cant handle..

lol yea that is not the most flattering angle of the car at all. i am kinda off and on about the styling, some angles it looks great and others i would agree it looks kinda bulbous. the rear of the car is i think the best view.

I was in California for the historics 2 years back. There was on of these going around the track. The test driver was showing how the car handled. It spun about 720 degrees before stopping. this car is going to be a big sales failure. Don't get me wrong it is truly a great looking car. but it has taken entirely to long to develope and customers might have lost interest.

according to CAR magazine, which has a three page article on the car, 50 have been ordered.

Also 14 cars have been ordered, one Sheik has ordered 14, one for each of his 12 sons and two for himself.

sales failure, well, we have to wait and see.

they're only making 300!

it will NOT be a sales failure. I can promise you that all 300 will be sold probably before it even gets released.
Actually most of these hyper exclusive supercars turn out to be sales failures.
Chances are VW won't make anything off of the car even if they sell every one
which I garentee you they will. And I garentee you VW already knows they won't
make anything off of it.

The defenition of "Sales Failure" varies depending how you look at it. The car could lose a rather lot of money (which it is supposed to) but still be considered quite a success. This was supposed to be a halo car anyway, to bring back the Bugatti name.

mike_sayer
02-02-2005, 06:54 AM
Bugatti's approach was just stupid - they decided they'd do this "outrageous" thing and make a car with 1000hp without actually knowing how the hell they were going to do it...we all know about the overheating problems it's had and how they've had to add more air ducts, etc. Personally, i don't think it'll be able to match a whole host of current supercars (enzo, zonda, carrera GT, merc slr mclaren and prob a whole lot more), and honestly i don't think it looks that great either - the front is hideous. And it weighs more than the moon.

What it will prove is that the best supercars aren't just all about being able to produce 4-figure horsepower, but hey we've known that for a while. Still, with those 8 litres and 4 turbos, it'll probably sound pretty interesting

JoeHahn

No-one knows what the official weight is of now, people just suspect it to be heavy. VW is trying to portray an image that Bugatti can still do things outstanding like they used to do. This car is much like the Phaeton, people call that a failure yet its given Volkswagen an image of luxury and amazing build quality which is unbeatable by anyone. The Veyron will do similarly

caneswell
02-02-2005, 08:19 AM
Seems to be a purly marketing excercise. VW wanting the "fastest production car" record. Won't be a very good drivers car, compared to zonda, carrera gt, enzo and konigsegg. Not got the amazing design and engineering of the Mc F1. Will be heavy and around a track enzo and carrera will beat it. At the end of the day its only going to be amazing at top speeds. Once you ring up Bugatti to get them to send you the specal tyres for going over 186mph!

mindgam3
02-02-2005, 08:47 AM
With 4WD, a huge engine plus those turbos and a hell of a lot of luxury, i'm almost certain it will be heavier than any of the supercar's currently out there.....

All cars WILL be sold, but I don't see how they can make a profit on this.... the project's been going on for far too long and they've had to do stupid amounts of testing and reworking just to get the final car....

Unlike ferrari and the rest, they released the power, top speed and price BEFORE they started properly deisgning it which IMO is a stupid idea....

The acceleration from this thing (when/if it's ever finally released) will probably be stupendous, but I sincerley doubt it will be a better car on track and on road than the current crop of supercars...

In my view, it's already a failure, it should have been out months ago and there's just been failed promise after failed promise from bugatti..... a modern XJ220?

That's what Bugatti's chairman said, they test the Bugatti with Audi's standarts :) So it will have high qualities standards and owners won't finish tests like the Enzo (his words  )

I cant help and wonder, after so many crashes, after so many delays, after so many changes in spec... who is going to be the guy that has the balls to go and attempt top speed record with it?

cooperluke

Well, it seems an interesting car, but only has a brute force Buggati, not has a real Supercar.

A Supercar, for me, has got to have superhandling, super wheight reduction techniques, super aceleration, super top speed and super lap times. Of theese all, I think the Veyron only has 2...

But it's a nice rocket indeed!

Bullshit will it revolutionise the supercar.... IF it does manage 252mph, that only 10 more than the F1 and it's got twice the amount of horses.

Plus the F1 didnt have 4WD, traction control, power steering, a FI engine etc etc....

Power shouldnt be going up, weight should be coming down and work should concentrate on aero....

|Nuno|
02-02-2005, 01:30 PM
when you have 1000hp...weight doesn't matter as much anymore

It matters. Alot. True, with 1001 hp no matter how heavy the car is, it will still be fast as fuck. But, when it comes to handling and braking, among other things weight plays a major role.

And I totally agree with mindgam3: Power shouldnt be going up, weight should be coming down and work should concentrate on aero....

And the Bugatti's aero isn't that brilliant. In fact, it's part of the problem...

Just compare it to an Enzo, for example.

when you have 1000hp...weight doesn't matter as much anymore ;)

it WILL revolutionize. there has never been a production car like this....EVER.

of course they are concentrating on Aero......they have spent millions on this, i can assure they have done alot of research in every aspect.

Of course weight matters. Extra weight puts a lot more stress on the brakes and the effects the braking stance of the car.... it will also affect turn in and understeer/oversteer balance.... I wouldn't be suprised if it suffers from understeer due to the extra weight and 4WD...

Bullshit will it revolutionise the supercar industry, what has it done particuarly different from anything else out there apart from taking far too long to engineer? As i said, it needs almost twice the power to go an extra 10mph faster than an F1, how is that revolutionary?

I don't doubt they are putting a lot of effot into the aero, but like the power and top speed, they had the basic shape shown to everyone before they actually started working on it so they had very little to work with....
for instance if you look at it front on it's got a much larger frontal area than other supercars.....

Obviously the whole truth won't come out until it gets reviewed by several magazines..... I doubt it will be much of a driver's car though.... it will be more like an SLR only heavier and with more acceleration.....

Buggatti engineered it the wrong way round....

mindgam3
02-02-2005, 02:57 PM
aerodynamics is a much more complex affair than just playing by the eye. Sure you can look at the front and say that it's much larger, etc....however there are many many factors which go into aerodynamics. the flow of air in and around the car is dependent on many factors, including shape and resistence to air flow at different directions (not just linear) as well as air trapping and air duct movement. I think the Veyron is very aerodynamic and it wouldn't surprise me if it's aerodynamics are better than people think right now.

as for weight making a difference, sure it does...i won't deny it...HOWEVER when you are putting up 1000hp, you can afford to add some weight, which in fact is probably needed to keep the car more stable....it's not a Formula One race car which needs to be kept light...it's a street car which needs to be stable on regular roads, as well as on the track.

The car is drastic. I won't deny....but the sheer ambition of what they are trying to is amazing in my opinion. It has NOT taken them that long to engineer it actually......the mistake Bugatti made was that they showed the concept waaaay too early. They showed it in 2000....they should have just waited a couple years to show the car, until they had developed it more. MANY supercars have been worked on and researched for much much longer than the Veyron has......but this car is talked about much more than those cars.

I know one of the largest consultants for the VW/Audi group...and he has assured me that VAG has pumped ALOT of money into this car.....in an attempt to make it the most perfect car ever........even if it fails at that, it will be an amazing car. I'm certain of it.

I'm damn excited to see this in action. More excited than any other car EVER.

Firstly, no need to lecture me on aerodynamics as i'm sure i know more than you as i'm currently taking a masters in mechanical engineering....

Secondly, Bugatti only used a 1:4 scale car and to my knowledge they do not have wind tunnel capabilities to study transients aerodynamics or non linear aero dynamics.... not even all the top F1 teams have wind tunnels with this capability....

Non "production" cars eg vette's and RUF's etc have already beaten mclarens top speed and have amazing performance figures - so in that respect even if it does break mclaren's top speed, its not *ground breaking* in the true sense....

It doesen't matter how long it's taken for them to engineer, it's the fact that when it does go into production, it will be almost year's after they said it would be first released because of the many problems they've been facing.....

Secondly, if it's not direct from the engineer's i would't trust anything your "insider" says..... as with F1 teams, the engineers only tell their media (etc) departments what they want to here, not neccesarily what happens....

I have no doubt that VW have put millions into this, and because of the long delay, all the problems and all the extra testing they are very unlikely to make a profit.....

For the money, you could have a CGT, a Zonda roadster and change left over to put towards a SLR......

The key to any supercar or sportscar is weight.... this hasnt got tht on its side

findleybeast
02-02-2005, 06:25 PM
The Veyron's biggest problem in development has been the fact that Bugatti has had to backwards engineer Everything. They came out with the concept, said it was going to have 1000 horsepower and an incredible top speed - but the design was just a styling exercise and not based on aerodynamic testing, the engine hadn't been totally developed yet, and they didn't have a way to put down all the power from enormous hypothetical engine.
They have worked out most of the problems, but the flawed aerodynamics won't allow it to achieve the top speed they originally hoped for, and the gearbox has still been reducing itself to metal shavings from all the power.

Needless to say, I still highly anticipate the release of this incredible car. So what if it doesn't live up to previous expectations? It will still be a monster.

this is simply a beautiful pic, the only thing i think they should change is that grill. it looks really bad.

i don't see bugatti ever getting rid of that grill. it's what makes it a bugatti - it's the traditional design element that's on all bugattis. (look closely - you'll see it even on the EB110). It also makes it unique. I'm def. a fan of the old school inspired grill.

And financially, Bugatti said to CAR magazine last year that it cannot break even on the Veyron, and that it's almost certainly bound for a loss. it will however bring back the name of Bugatti, and they'll try and use it to leverage a newer, lower end car for 2008 or so.

If this car lives up to the expectations then it should be awesome, i really like the styling but i'm beginning to wonder about the driveability of 1000bhp car, they've had problems with just about everything imagineable mostly engine related due to the sheer task of getting 1000 horsepower out of an engine and keeping it reliable and driveable. Engines over heat, didnt produce enough power, burnt out the drive train etc....

Apparently the head of bugatti came out and said they'd fixed all those problems, now they just needed to sort the suspension and the steering!

I hope it makes it but it might just be a big if!

^dude, it's totally NOT a 1000bhp car.... it's a 1001bhp car! That 1hp makes all the difference!

It's not even 1000bhp, i think its 1001 PS and 987bhp, according to the latest EVO anyway.....

well at least that's what its supposed to be, whether it will actually be is a different matter :P

ikon2003
02-06-2005, 12:04 PM
^ it depends on how you measure the horsepower. i read about this waay back in 2002 or something in motor trend, but apparently the bugatti used a european way of measuring horsepower, and they got it to the desired 1001hp. motor trend, which sites all of its power in SAE net horsepower, translates that into 987bhp. so yeah, u and evo are right.

i wonder if one is even able to tell a difference between 14 bhp when power is on that scale.... i doubt it.
