correct me if i'm wrong, but don't you have to run rich to get the anti-lag to work properly?

Idd, the purpose of the ALS is to reduce the lag of the turbo by letting unburned fuel in to the hot exhaust. The unburned fuel gets ignited by the hot turbine and keeps it spinning at high speed when the driver lifts off the throttle. This gives a nice bang-bang sound with an open exhaust system. There are many ways to design such an ALS system, but with rally cars the most common way is to increase fuelling a bit and reduce the spark advance or even cut spark in some cylinders, so unburned fuel is pushed into the exhaust manifold.

Very nice vid. It also contains some great classics, like the Alpine A110, the R8 Gordini, the Lotus Europe, etc. Thanks for posting, homemade wrx!

Not necessarily, but in practice on rally cars it is mostly done like that. Btw, at full throttle a powerful turbo engine always runs rich.
