Today Barrett-Jackson set the new world record for price for a car auctioned off. It was the Oldsmobile F-88 Concept car that set this record. What was the price? A cool $3,240,000. It was pretty cool seeing history being made here. It was an awesome time http://www.barrett-jackson.com/events/scottsdale/vehicles/cardetail_list.asp?id=178112

i was talking to my friend while he was watching it. they buyer is opening a museum in colorado and he was getting it for that reason. apparently it was a pretty heated bidding war.

I hope you mean a record for an Auctioned car at Barret Jackon...because 250 GTOs sold for 3 times more on quite a few occasions.

They said in the world there, but obviously for Barrett-Jackson too.

Yeah, it's in Durango. There were 3 or 4 other bidders for most of the auction, and then it went down to 2 men going back and forth. IIRC it went to a million in about 30 seconds. But the surprise of the day was the next car, a one off '58 hardtop vette was expected to go for more than the $310k it went for. Don't know why, but it went for far far far less than expected.

I see I wasn't the only one watching that auction. I watch it every year. It is definately more for the american car lover though.

High price ok, but far from the world record

It was only last year that the Le Mans winning Ferrari 330 TRI sold at auction to Jim Spiro for $6.5 million. And, like Alex already mentioned, GTO's have been selling for even more. I also remember Bugatti's (Atlantic, Royale) fetching higher prices.

Still, it must be the record for an auctioned Oldsmobile and it's an incredible amount of money for a car, period.

The guy that bought it does have an Enzo! LOL

LOL they call it the world series too, even if there are only American teams playing in it......

There are Canadian Teams as well. :P

I think it's a great car, I love the styling, I've always been a fan of tail fins. The Rocket V8 powering it was a great engine as well.
