View Full Version : WHAT A DAY!!!!

Hey guys, just got back from the final test of our old Formula Student car at bruntingthorpe prooving ground (yes it was as cold and wet as it always is!!!)
It involved a lot of playing around (at the end) i managed to leave a fair old bit of rubber from my front tyres there as i was pitching my focus against our FS car in the 0-75 metre test!! lol :
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/coombsie66/IMGP0617.jpg
Then after a fair bit of testing it was time to have some fun! I obviously dont have any pics of myself driving, but my mates do so i will upload em when i get them, all i can say is it was sideways EVERYWHERE!! lol I also should have a vid of the whole day in a few days time, if anyone would be so kind as to host it i can assure u guys that its amusing!!

Anyways, donughting the FS car was great fun, but what capped the day was what was going round the main runway!! A porsche 996 GT2 tuned im sure (silver) a RUF turbo 996 (red) and a bloody quick 993 RUF CTR!! German reg, driven by two young guys i only have vids of them, as capturing a car going over 150 MPH with a digital camera delay is a little difficult!!
Well we watched them storming down the runway for a while and then we left, and who should we bump into at the slip road to the motorway!!!:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/coombsie66/IMGP0652.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/coombsie66/IMGP0653.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/coombsie66/IMGP0654.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v74/coombsie66/IMGP0655.jpg
We caught up with them and started taking photo's firstly they thought we were being dicks, then realised we liked their cars, so started waving back! Then the bloke in the CTR slowed down next to us, gave the thumbs up, dropped it 2 gears and absolutely pissed away like NOTHING i have ever seen before! The sound was undescribable!!! The bloke in the red RUF turbo was less keen to have a play, but still gave the thumbs up when we left the motorway. :D :D :D
What a day, i have a few really poor quality vids of our FS car, my focus messing around, and the porsches at brunters and on the motorway if anyone could host, otherwise i hope you enjoyed the pics, i havent giggled quite so much like a school girl for a long time! :)
UPDATE: Here's me doing my best to remain fully sideways smoking the tyres for the whole length of the final corner exit and pit straight  :D :D

PLEASE DO NOT POST THESE PICTURES ON ANYWHERE OUTSIDE OF JW. They are not my personal property, despite it being me driving.

HAHA, sorry, im talking bollox, its not the yellow bird at all, just found a like to pics of it, nothing like it, other than the colour.

it depends what format the vids are in at the moment, virtualdub is good for alot of things mostly avis, but i don't think it'll do quicktime or WMV. Anyway if it opens the files, all you need to do for a basic joining of files is click an open the first file then press file---- append avi segment, do this for all the clips then select "direct stream copy in both the video and audio tabs, then click save as avi then ya done!.
Other than that there are lots of programs that you have to pay for (or get elsewhere ) but you can get trials of lots of video joiners on download.com
ooops forgot to say what a awesome day that looks to have been, needless to say alot of effort has gone into it, sounds like you made the most out of it anyway :D

That must be a great day with loads of fun! I can't wait for those vids ;)
Very nice sighting too, especially the CTR Yellowbird, that one is very exclusive :D
The owners of that RUF CTR yellowbird and RUF 996 R Turbo must be friends, cause I've seen them together in York. And I also have a vid of them playing at Bruntingthorpe, when the 996 must have been brand new (it still had German license plates). If anyone is interested, I'll upload it to the vault.
And here's a pic I shot of those two RUF's near York:

Ah, cool, those guys did look like they'd been to brunters before (must have been pushing 200 mph at the end of the runway run after run after run!) and were exactly the type of people i respect and admire, they had a play and a laugh with us on the motorway and were quite happy with us taking pictures. Good guys.
Brembo: That FS car was built 2 years ago by our predecessors here at Imperial, pretty fucked now, and we were there just to have a bit of fun, therefore i aint got many pics, or any i have arnt that impressive. However the new car that i am involved in degsigning and building this year is gunna be a bit more special
Lets just say Garret GT12 turbo, Yamaha 600 thundercat engine, 300kg with driver 8)
Our website is relatively poor at the moment, and hasnt been updated for a while, but i'll try and get recent photo's on there: http://www.cgcu.net/icracing/
Oh and wutputt, im very interested in seeing that vid!

The one guy has both of the RUF's, I think that he can be found on m5board.com and his name is Adam, go to the Porsche section on the bottom of the page and I think that his article of buying the red RUF RTurbo with pics is a sticky. He is one lucky guy. Looks like you had a great time.

The nose cone was left off so we could fit the big battery for testing purposes (we had strain gauges all over the car for the final dynamic test).
That monocoque is actually fully carbon composite, just painted. And it was all done in house by our team members (not outsourced like sum  ).
And just you wait till you see the new car. :P

Indeed, wow2000, nobody cares about what you are going to do  I'll have to remember that SIUYA :P its appropriate at times like these. If you want to talk about your cars you must provide evidence in your OWN thread, not spam other peoples topics. Personally i have a feeling you may be bullshitting since you claim to own a S600L here http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?p=349133&highlight=#349133 and a 5 series here. In the same post you talk down the BMW 3 series. Don't spam in this thread anymore so if you can provide proof read the rules here http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=8593 and post a topic. Please prove me wrong :D
BTW coombsie did you have any luck with the vids??

Yep the same guy does own both the Yellowbird and R Turbo, he also owns an M5. The Yellowbird was the same car featured on the Autocar 0-100-0 test where it did it in about 6.9 seconds. Its a beast

I havent managed to merge all the vids together, they are different sample rates for some reason (maybee the zoom used) so they dont merge with the program i have. They arnt particularly special anyway. But the big vid should be here some time, and that may find its way into teh vault for sure! :D
