It is bloody cold and windy these days.. check out these wicked pics taken in Geneva (not by me), a couple of days ago!!

They would be ok in Sweden, North Pole or whatever, but in Switzerland, despite what ppl might think, it is damn rare!

http://img184.exs.cx/img184/3695/dscn77158ym.jpg

it's a mighty combo of strong wind, waves coming out from the lake and low temperature.. I don't envy the MG owner! I already had troubles in opening my BMW the other day when I wanted to turn on the engine for a while (since I can't drive it this month: no license remember :)).. but this MG is on a whole different level!

Fuck!!! Really impressive pics TT, and beautiful also! Luckily you are in a civilized country...if that happens in Spain nothing would go properly...no trains, no phone, no electricity....

Well of course we had our problems too, many roads were just closed because snowbounded or covered in ice, some bus felt out of the road, a couple of trains had problems too

And today again -4 C.. and windy!

Well, Catalonia it's also suffering very low temperatures (-2 C in Girona right now )and strong wind (100-110 km/h) during this latest days. It's very strange that snows in Girona and today is very probable...i would like it! :D

LOL.....that looks amazing, at first I thought it was a fake picture :D
What a difference to here, you have -4 C and we have forecasts for 38 C - a 42 C difference

And yesterday in Aigle, wich is not too far from the easternmost part of the lake and just 50 km east of Lausanne, they got -19! Hell, I saw -20 C only when skiing in St.Moritz and it was at around 2500-3000 meters over the sea, not 600 LOL

Stunning pics. I love the way the ice looks like it's in motion. That MG looks like someone made a car out of ice. It's shots like these that make me laugh when people here in SoCal complain that it is cold. They really have no idea what cold is.

 Yikes! I can't imagine chipping away at all that ice.

Imagine if the owner had decided to sleep in his car overnight... and had woken up to that. Talk about being seriously in trouble

For sure it would be, but now tell me, who the fuck would sleep during winter into an MG cabrio?

that is amazing pics! really!
was a bit cold here in sweden this morning around -10 but the porker started right up!

when i was in the army it was -15 the first day we would go to the shooting range and when shooting you didtn get to have your gloves on, and holding this iron machingun with your bare hands was terrible, and you had to wait before averybody was finished before you could warm your hands. and one whimp complaind to the officers that he was so cold and how much it hurt when we ALL were waiting with the frozen gun in our hands for the order to put our gloves on again and i can tell you its not good to have 25 people with machinegun in there hands mad at you hehe! we really hate him after that.

why the hell did i tell this story? HAHAHA

I don't know but it's funny! :D LOL! I have always admired the lack of practicality and rationality of the army!

LOL at the army anecdote! For sure when you are in the army and it is cold (happened to me too, at 3000 meter over the sea, it was August and it was bloody snowing...), it's not very pleasantfull!

Lovely pics there, poor little MG, not really built for that i fear :P In some ways i envy those of you who live in places that get snow quite often, but i don't envy conditions like that!! I know i'd be bitching about it  Still i'd love us to actually have some snow that settles on the ground!!

That's incredible! That's so much ice. Pretty crazy how you can see exactly how it formed. I don't envy that guy who has to scrape all the ice off his car - that's so much worse than snow. I had to dig out a couple cars from 5 ft snow drifts, but I'd much rather do that than try and recover that frozen car.

I wouldnt know how youd start to get that car un stuck, i guess you would get one of those gas flame heaters and melt it off. Poor owners

01-28-2005, 04:59 PM
Thinking of the car owner, do you beleive it is still possible to use the car after all the ice melted, or many things are just broken?

TT
01-28-2005, 05:44 PM
IMO there is a risk that something just broke because of the ice

reminds me of the HUGE ice storm we had 3-4 years ago, the army had to be called in.

01-28-2005, 08:29 PM
Is it just an illusion of the ice going over the wheelarches or is that MG starting to get lower? I know there is the obvious reason of it having loads of water weighing it down but those MGs had hydralastic springs as well, could there be a serious problem here?

Hahaha, that thing just kept getting pounded on. It's as if the ice were growing on it like a bad fungus on steroids. That's hilarious!

I like the huge load of ice around the antenna, but i don't understant how it didn't break yet because of the weight! I must be a 100 times heyvier than normal :o

Probably it doesn't break because the ice around its basis helps to support its weight

Amazing pics TT!

I can see it damaging the car though, if you drive it melts the ice you park it there. The water in between the various parts under the hood freezes and expands, putting pressure on the componets till it evetually cracks. However modern cars are designed to withstand such conditons :) Still amazing though!

LoL, been around -20 here in Canada for about a month solid now. But im nowheres near an ocean, so i dont have those kind of spray problems  However, my car leaks water inside so whenever it warms up, the frozen water melts and begins to evaporate. Needless to say, everytime I want to go somewhere I have to scrape the inside and outside of all the windows  Its kind of a pain. -20 isnt too out of the ordinary for January, worst ive seen is around -35. Worst ive been in is -32 skiing. I went for 2 runs and gave up. lol I love the winter tho, got about a foot and a half of the white stuff on the lawn and lovin every minute of it.

WOw those are amazing pics. If the car's tank is full, and it gets frozen then serious dmg can happen right? Im sure though that he didnt have it full.

Sightings like that make me be proud to live in Florida
