I've tried to defrag 1 of my system partitions many times, using windows built-in defragmenter.

Every time it finishes it says {some files could not be defragmented}. And my D: remains 30% fragmented.

Can anyone help with this problem. should i just use 3rd party software to defrag ?

Heres the report:

thats pretty strange.
it would be worth a try using a 3rd party software.
i recommend downloading the trial for Diskeeper, it defrags quite quickly and effectively.

Did you have any programs up and running while you were defragging? Any in the background? As Ronin005 said, if you are running a program, it won't be able to move the files around.

Try restarting the computer in safe mode and then defragging.

Either you want advice or you don't.

Move 50% of the data soime place else.. defrag whats left and then slowly data back defragging as you go.

Your drive is currently TOO DEFRAGGED with TOO LITTLE FREE SPACE to be effectively defragged.

Look at the files that remain fragmented - do they appear to be the types of files locked while you are logged on?
