I was about to say...why would aston make another V8 other than the AMV8..but this car looks great and the price will be a lot lower, so two thumbs up!

yeah, it has been around for a while but, everywhere I've seen it they've called it the AMV8, why did they swith to DB8? or was this what they were planning to call it all along and just called the concept the AMV8?

Well the production version (of which you see a pic above) will probably be called DB8. Why?

1) Cause Aston Martin has a long tradion of V8 (Vantage)'s which were the top of the line cars. And this will be the 'base model'. It isn't really logic the give this car the same name.

2) They skipped the name DB8 when they launched the DB9 as successor of the DB7. Although Aston Martin has the name DB8 registered.

3) Aston Martin doesn't really use the same name twice for a really new car, so it won't be called DB6 or DB5 either. This only leaves us with DB8.

ps: this are only my assumptions, so it isn't the truth. Maybe they will still call it the V8 (Vantage), since everyone just calls this car after its concept car name. But my guess is they will call it DB8 when it will be launched this year.

Even more than one. And loads of spy pics too.

I hope they call it the DB8 and not some form of "vantage". The Vantage moniker has traditionally belonged to high-performance versions of AM vehicles. If they start slapping it on run-of-the-mill AM's the whole thing is going to get confused. In reality, the Vanquish S ought to be the Vanquish Vantage, but it sounds a little strange that way hehehe.

Yes, someone said this some time ago in JW... but it's hard to believe. On the other hand, with 100hp more is not that unbelievable. I like the looks, more agressive than the DB9 which looks a bit "soft" now compared with the DB8...

Yes it did the lap under 8:00 mins.

I also heard that it may be called the DB5 to reincarnate the trendsetting Aston Martin from the sixties.

Technically, it will most likely be faster than the DB9 or Vanquish though... and therefore why not give it the vantage tag? ;)

well I don't care what they call it, It looks better then the DB9 IMO, and might just be the only true 911 killer if they price it right, so if they price it right I hope to see alot of these on the roads soon, cause the so called "911" killers are all priced way to high right now.

Because unless it's a hi-po version it oughtn't be called that. Let the 370bhp base model be a DB# and the proposed supercharged one with 450bhp or so a DB# Vantage. That makes more sense to me.

i've got some news from from freenet.de "click this link" (http://www.freenet.de/freenet/auto/news/auto/aktuell/index.html?id=efde375f7aa8b75059af264a960ed462&sf_forum_title=Erwischt:%20Aston%20Martin%20DB%208 %20-%20Der%20Kompakt-Sportler&sf_forum_date=07.07.2004&sf_feed=ams&)
I don't understand it all, but it says that the DB-8 will have a V8 from Jaguar? :? what the... :?
but modified...(with compressor) is this story true? cause I translate it with my opera...

There is a video of this on the Auto Express website, it sounds awesome! I believe the V8 is Jaguar based but sounds a totally different animal. I think DB8 makes sense for the base version with Vantage being added for a high performance version. I've read the car is supposed to be a 911 rival so it makes sense to go against the 911 Turbo as well as the Carrera versions.

I aagree with Vansquish. Most AM models had a normal version and a more powerful Vantage version. So calling the standard V8 a Vantage won't be really according to AM's tradition.

It's quite old news this car will have a 4.3 V8 based on Jaguar's 4.2 V8. A lot of rumours also say there will be a supercharged version beside the NA version. And that supercharged version will have the Vantage name. Not sure if these rumours are true, but they seem plausible.

^ I like that idea more, and not have the normal base model with the Vantage name. I personally like the sound of AMV8 more than DB8 though

i hope they call it the db8, for the sake of less confusion. its gonna be a stunner.
