F1 facts and stats?

Ok, so i have to make a speech for an effective speaking class about something i like and im gonna do formula 1. If anyone has any interesting facts about f1 cars that would be greeaaat.
Things i know so far:
top speed- around 225
weight- 1600lbs(i think)
-7 forward gears
-900-950 hp
-3L V10 that spin up to 19,000rmps
-Carbon fiber chassi
- 300+ million dollar budgets
-Schumacher gets 100 mill a year
- They can pull about 3/4 g's in corners

What i would like to know:
-0-60mph, 0-100mph
- how much a tire costs?
- how much a rim costs?
- how much downforce they produce?
And any other facts that could get get the audiences attention would be great, thanks for your help :D

Engines have potential to rev above 19500rpms based on last year's data but have been cut back a bit for longetivity.

I remember reading about the costs of each component in one of the F1 racing issues. Cant remember the details though

much of which is sponsorship money, not straight up salary. not sure the proportion though.


weight limit i'm pretty sure is 600kgs = 1,322.77 pounds, while power is 900bhp+ (some having been tested at over 1kbhp). [i remember this cuz it's the inverse of LMP racers, which are roughly 900kg and 600bhp].

If you watch the Fifth Gear ep1 of series 2 (2004) They have Buttons F1 put in its paces. It did constant 9's for the 1/4 mile. I have a mag where they tested Mansels car and it a sim time(early 90's).

Also goto a race, the tents they have there always have this info(im usually too drunk too remember haha)

i can't really tell how much downforce the car produces at top speed, but i know that the front wing is tested to handle somewhere in the area of two to three tons of df...

some how i belive the number from fift gear quater mile test is very reserve number

is hard to belive a car with over 950hp and only 600kg includign driver can only do 9's in the quater mile

probably traction problems

Performance specs I got.

In mph (don't know what car and for which track it was set up):

0-60 mph in 1.8 sec
0-100 mph in 4.0 sec
0-150 mph in 9.8 sec
0-200 mph in 12.2 sec



General performance figures in km/h:

0 - 100 km/u in about 2 s
0- 160 km/u in about 4 s
0- 200 km/u in about 5 s
0- 300 km/u in about 10 - 11 s (highly dependant on the chosen gear ratios)
0-160-0 km/u in about 6 s



A 2004 engine will last about 800 km (500 miles). With the 2005 regulations engines will be designed to last 1500 km (940 miles).

^yeah, 5th gear did their F1 v boat v bike test. they said traction was really a problem off the line, so throttle had to be limited till it got up to speed and downforce was applied.

mindgam3: yes thats true, I was in melb afew years back(well im there everyyear) and we had slept soo we missed the morning practise and we could here the F1 car echoing off the buildings(10km away), it was an awesome sound to listen too waking up!!!

Also I dont use earplugs maybe I should hahaha.

very interesting facts mindgame3.

the "louder than a 747" one is interesting.... i hadn't heard that before. a 747 engine puts out 150dB + or - . while an f1 engine may be louder than that dBs, i have a feeling it's due to the fact that it's a much higher pitch. The acoustic energy of a 747 i'm quite confident would displace more air cuz of its lower fq, so a person could "feel" the sound more.

Some cars can put out over 170dBs, not through their engine noise, but those set up for SPL (sound pressure level) testing via speakers and amplifiers. That's 7x louder than the 747, and much louder than the F1 engine I'm sure. Neway, just fyi.

Or even less. Honda's 2004 engine apparently weighted only 88 kg. But that's without oil and coolant, and without the extra's like airbox, ECU, wiring, etc.
