Sweet pic. Like seeing the evolution
and I agree w/ bmwpower, the new 3 looks really big. Almost looks like it should be a 5 series compared to the older ones at least

the inside is almost as big as 5-series E39
The new one looks out of place. The first four (I think) are all instantly recognizable as 3 series (and evolutions of the 3 series). The fifth one does not look like a natural evolution of the previous version.

yes, the E90 does look like it took a leap and a bound from the E46, but it's going to get people talking. That's one of the things Bangle wanted, controversy. And love it or hate it, you've been talking about it. I think that the E90 will be excepted into the family once the initial chock wears off and other manufacturers begin to mimic BMWs lines. if you recall, each new model launch seemed to be styled a bit ahead of its time, and eventually looked like all the other cars out there, but it stood out when it needed to, and i believe that is still being achieved to this day. How many other cars look like an E65/66, E60, or an E63? even th E85, 83 and 53 have no comparisons. i have a feeling that if you give it another couple of years, something is going to come out that can be compared to the styling of these cars. As i said, love it or hate it, there is no comparison.

the old ones look alright.....the new one looks totally off.
Agreed. . . but then again I own a E30 and a E36 =) .
Another reason why the new one (E90) is bigger is probably because they had to make room for the 1 - Series. Marketing segments. . .
BTW excellent article.

I can't see what the problem is with the E90... it looks brilliant if you ask me. Major leap ahead in the right direction. It makes the rest look rather bland.

Really? Wow. You are among the few my friend.
I don't like the new car at all. I think the front end is too angular and the rear taillights looks similar to the ones they have on Hyundais.

The new one looks rather ugly IMO, just like most of the beemers penned under bangle's design direction!

I quite like the new one although the rear lights are pretty nasty. It's easy to see from the pic how they have got bigger over the years.
Without seeing one in real life, i think that the new 3series is the best looking Bmw since 7series/5series - E38/E39. Who designed the new 3series?

Just imagine how much better the new 3 series will be when compared to the competition when the current e46 is still the leader in this segment of the market. As far as looks are concerned it doesnt rise debates as the ones created by the 7 seven or even the 6 series,i personally think that it looks good but the rear lights could have been better, the good ting is that it doesnt need to grow on me as i liked it from the first time i saw it.I thing that BMW played it a bit safe with the new 3 series, you dont bite the hand that feeds you. :)

More like the opposite mate. Jeremy Clarkson likes it, and he hates Bangle's stuff... hell, he doesn't like BMW's at all.
Honestly, I can't understand how you people want a NEW car to look just like the old one - only slightly tweaked. Why would you want to stare at the same thing all over again? It's not like the "new" (997) 911 Carrera stirs any emotions... it's just the same thing... again.
I swear, this sort of argument reminds me of the time when Ferrari brought out the 360 modena... everybody was saying how ugly it was because it didn't look like the car it replaced. Now, 5/6 years onwards, everybody thinks it's the most beautiful modern Ferrari.
Try to be more open minded people. Please. The times are-ah changin'.
bmwmpower:
I got big problems with the interiours, doesn´t look/feel luxury. Much cheap plastic feeling material all over (E60), the i-drive feels like a overwashed button on a 5 year old shirt and i really don´t like titan panels either. Then i think it looks really bad but thats my own oppinion. Then i compare it with E38/E39/A4/A6/E class... But it´s just good that everybody got diffrent taste, would be quite boring with everyone driving Bmws.
But i don´t think it´s Bangle that have designed the new 3series. Not the 1 series either but i can´t confirm it. I will look into it.

I don't know whether they did it on purpose, in order to underline the beauty of the new 3 Series, putting older versions of E46 and E36 with orange lights. They had to put the versions with white lights IMO.
Thanks for the pic - it's great

I think that the new 2 series is going to replace 3 series has my favourite BMW... It's too big and the lines, a bit strange, especially at the rear!!

Ive no clue what the size of the new series 3 is, however the tendence of a particular model is growing up more and more when the model is replaced by its successor.......in addition, as i stated in another section yesterday, the new 3 series doesnt convince me because of three main reasons....the line....that continues having the same cues as the rest of the BMW new models have; the front of the car that ruines the previous 3 series sporty appearance, and the size since its too big IMO.......in contrast, i do appreciate a lot its engines, its dynamic attitudes, its performance and so on....see if the new bimmer doesnt dissapoint me with the interior materials

Personally I like it, it's something fresh, a 3 series that marks a new ERA for BMW's most popular model.
For those who like the car or want to give to it a second chance:
