I did it.

Got the car for about 7 hours.

These pics were taken with my little minolta. In a day or two, I will post
pictures taken with the EOS 300. A serious camera. High res stuff.

I also used a videocamera and made a couple of nice little clips and me and my friend will make a compilation of those......give me a few days.....

Anyway, the car feels sensational. Ofcorse, it also goes fast as hell....

People turning heads, where ever I went.

Tried to reach the 285km/h.......didn't quite make it. Got it up to 280km/h, I had traffic slowing me down.

The traction control does it's job very well.
If you put it into "sport" mode, the tcs, well actually the "MSP" gives you a little bit of extra time to try to sort the mess up, before it does it for you...

And if you turn it off....you know, the car instantly doesn't feel that nimble and nice anymore.

I almost lost it, at about 75mph. I was going trough a long bend in 3 gear.
The asphalt was a bit slippery and the back came out a "bit". I reacted quickly and fixed it.

The acceleration is really nice. 0-180km/h in about 13sec.
0-100km/h in about 5sec,maybe less

So, tomorrow I'll post some high(er) res pics, some close-ups.....

Enjoy the pics.

HERE ARE THE NEW PICS

I didn't take them. The guy who owns the canon 300d and took the pics imo could do alot better.....

I'm a bit sad that not moe detail shots were taken. I was too buisy taking pics with my own camera to notice what he was doing.

I'll take the 300d in my own hands next time

Not all pics are bad.
Here you go.

Naturally im jealous too......as 99,9999% of the members i guess.....simply you wont forget the masers drive during many years......BTW....we´ll be very pleased if you go further with your experience in terms of cars sensations, the sound of it, the gearbox, the brakes.......whatever

Awesome pics, and apparently an awesome experience. Did you pic up any chicks?

the sound:

interestingly, it sounds better when you sit inside and are driving the car. Most of the time, the car sounds better on the outside, when it roars past, like the 360 for instance. But with the maser , it's the other way around. I most liked the sound at about 50-60km/h in 6th or 5th gear at about 2k rpm.
That V8 starts making deeeeeeeep and scary sounds. Reminded me of some clasic american muscle cars.....

The gearbox:

Well, it's no speedy, I'll tell you that much. If you don't have the sport mode "on", it feels realy slow, and that bothered me just a bit.
So I had the car in "sport" mode most of the time. The shifts are much faster then, but on the other hand, they're much more agressive also. The car jumps forward at a full throtle shift.

It's not thw wisest thing to change gears all the way up at 7k or higher rpm, because I had a feeling the gearbox didn't feel very comfortable doing that, so I usually shifted at about 6-7k rpm.

the brakes:

At first I taught they were going to be "fade free". Ofcorse I was wrong. But hey, I was hoping for the best....

They are sensitive and very firm and strong at the same time. It's usualy hard to catch the right balance between the two, but maserati did it.
Ofcorse, after a few minutes of agressive driving, I had to push the break pedal harder and harder for the brakes to have similar efect at every breaking point......

But they "charge up" fast, so the brakes weren't a party pooper...

After the first hour or two, my palms would be swetting all the time...my heart was pounding and I got real familiar with my long lost friend - the adrenalin flow...

If anybody has any more questions just ask.

I'm exhausted and my head is filled with so many new info that I can't even remember all the things that happened today...

One more interesting detail.

I got up at 7.30, got the car, drove around, made photos, made videos, drove around some more, took a couple of friends for a drive, drove some more, returned the car and came back home at about 6 in the evening, and the word food or drink NEVER crossed my mind. 11 hours!!! Didn't even cross my mind!

That's how good the car is.

You lucky SOB (in the good way, like dani said  )....I envy you and I just wish the damn dealers here were so willing to hand out the keys to cars like this :) I can't wait for more pics and videos :D
BTW, what about insurance for the car - what would happen if your little moments didn't turn out so well and you damaged the car? :?

LMAO....

Well, if it was my fault, I would have to pay 1% of the car's value.
That's about 1500usd, or something like that, don't know exactly...

Oh, and the dealers are not that willing. They're bad ass people.
It was said, that it was impossible to get a test car from ferrari or maserati....
You realy have to know your shit, if you are going to try something like this.....

You have to know what to say and when to say it....stuff like that.

ok, I'm going to bed, good night.

Having a Maserati for 7 hours, awesome m8!!! You sure must had the time of your life. The pics look very good. I can't wait for the highres pics and of course the vids :D

Any idea how it compares to a Ferrari concerning ride and handling? Is it far more comfortable or almost just as sporty?

komotar
01-19-2005, 02:56 PM
The 360 ride was much, much stiffer, harder, how ever you want to put it.

But don't get me wrong, the maser still holds it's own and can mess up alot of other sports car when comparing the handling....

OH.........MY.........GOD...........

Congrats on the ride! Looks like you had some SERIOUS fun!!!!! :D :D

a truley lucky guy, i get what you are saying.
to get a test drive you have to walk the walk, talk the talk.
be confident and in control, thats the kind of person they will lend a car to.

looks totaly amazing, congrats on the 280km/h.. if only you could of gotten that 5km more :P

I think it would be near impossible for us to go to Alf Barbagallo and get a Maserati for 7hrs without supervision :(
BTW, komotar did you have to leave a credit card or anything in case you didn't come back :?

Nothing in impossible.

I didn't leave anything.

You have to show your personal document.

They take a look at it and write some stuff down, then you get a paper that says you are alowed to drive this car.....

very nice photos - very nice car!

Nothing in impossible.

10ish months ago i looked at and test drove a 350z at a local nissan dealer, then - being genuinely interested and having explained to the salesmen the other cars i was considering, was subsequently offered one for a test over a long weekend. i'm sure beaver will recollect the fun times that were had on said weekend... :)

i know of a 25 year old who purchased a brand new 360 modena from alf barbagallo, so it isn't anything these salesman haven't seen before.

indeed, nothing is impossible.

Sounds like loads of fun, komotar! Thanks for the story and pictures! :D

Did you lead the salesman to believe you were genuinly interested in buying one to get a testdrive like that?

komotar
01-20-2005, 08:42 AM
well.........khmkhm yes khm.....

Sometimes I feel bad about this......but I always take as little of the salesmane's
time as possible. Maybe 5 - 10 min. That's it.

Not that the salesman at the Ferrari and Maserati dealership is realy buisy.......

And what the hell, I got fed up with all the cool cars rolling by and not knowing what that feels like......to drive a fast or a luxurious car....

What botheres me the most, that when I will have the money to buy something similar ( and I will ), all these models will probably be replaced and old.

And I can't let them go to "waste" before I drive them....I just feel bad when all these nice cars are on the market and I can't (yet) afford them, so I do something about it.....

You know what I mean?

In 10 or 15 years time the latest 6 series or the new SLK, the maser or whatever will be old cars, and I'll be able to say, I drove these cars in their prime time.......at 21-22-23 years old.

That's it

Let the flaming begin.....

stradale
01-20-2005, 09:01 AM
You won't get any flaming from me on this. lol I can understand perfectly.

It was just a question about how exactly they came to lending you the car for a whole day. Nothing more, nothing less.

exacley, i have been to dealerships, and personaly i get them to aproach us. you stand there act confident, act like you could leave anymoment and you will have them begging you to drive there cars.
apart from the 350z that enigmatic got for the weekend. most test dvies last anywhere from 20minutes to an hour.

if they are generious they even buy you coffe.

btw it helps if you are young and rock up in a car that not many young people are driving and the dealers see you.
and never give the dealer you're number, because they will call up to ask if you are intrested.

dingo
01-20-2005, 10:22 AM
^ thats fine with cars like a 350Z or similar, but when you start looking at Maserati's, Porsches, Ferraris then you going to need a bit more then just confidence (well here anyway where there are so many cheats)

Great !!! really nice story, few months ago i had test drive with 645ci,760Li,330cd ..but Maserati is other league, BTW with what car you were there?

komotar
01-20-2005, 07:39 PM
my car ( golf 3), but parked it waaay back.

When I went to porsche, I first "borrowed" the E class from Mercedes and parked the car on the sidewalk in front of the Porsche dealership....

But the car or the clothes really don't matter.
It's the preformance and the attitude that matter.

I got the Audi A8 4.0 tdi (with all extras worth a few thousand dollars more than the maser) wearing my K-Swiss and DC Jeans( sk8-board brand) and an oirdinary white T-shirt.

Some people dress up too much and the dealers see right trough them.

It's the little things that matter. The firm and confident voice, the strong handshake, the " I don't care what you think about me" attitude, the "phone call you get", when the dealer is trying to tell you something, so you cut him off and say you have to take the call, because it's important. You don't go away, you stay with the dealer and make something up.

Like: "Listen to me Mark, I talked with George yesterday and we set a price. Don't go under that. If he doesn't want to sign, screw him, we've got people waiting..."

or: "Hi,....... yes, .....I've talked to him, tell him I'll call him from Vienna..."

Make the dealer think whatever he want's to think. If those conversations make him think, I'm an important man with lots of things on my mind and lots of cash in my wallet......

I ussualy come in, say who I am, what I want and ask for any papers, brochures and pricelists they have of the car.

I make an impression, and make sure the dealer will remember me. I go in and out in about three minutes. I walk up straight to the guy and ask for everything listed above. I act as I'm in a hurry.

Then I make the guy wait for a few days. And when I come back, I let him do all the work.

I just sit back and wait for the test drive invitation. Ofcorse, you'll never get offered a testdrive without the dealers supervision..........

I can't tell you everything.......

Or tell him what he want's to hear. If you're "buying" a Merc, tell him that you visited BMW the week before and wasn't pleased. That you got the car for three days but wasn't impressed........By that point you're not far away from the dealer saying, that he can't give you the car for three days, but could arrange for you to get the car for 24 hours.....

This one time I went to mercedes ( when the new SL came out ) and talked a bit about the car. ( I wanted to get the S class for a testdrive, and I knew they had a test car....) I said, that I was buying the SL, but I never had a mercedes or drove one, and because I knew the didn't have an SL test car, I knew they were going to give me the next best thing.....so after the dealer apologized for not having the SL, I said, that it's not important, that I just want to get a taste of the brand....also told
him, that we always had bmw's in our garage...........and guess what, in about 5 seconds he offeredme the S class

Sometimes I fell like starring in the movie "catch me if you can".....

The 300D pics are indeed nice but it's difficult to screw up with such a camera obviously!

As for the original size, it is always handy to play with 6 MP when you need to edit your pics with some better positioning (with some cropping) ;)

I am not really a detail guy, actually I never save details pics so I am very happy with his pics LOL :D

I'm going to the porsche dealer tomorrow......

8)

997? new Boxster? CGT? Cayenne? Which one is the objective?

8)

997, I think they have it.

If not, my friend told me about this new rent a car place, where you can rent the 997, so.......

CGT, yeah, that would be something....

The cool thing is, that the maser and ferrari dealer was the forst man to open a porsche dealership in slovenia, so he has connections.....

Maybe he could throw in a good word for me down at the porsche dealership...........you never know....

I'll PM you tomorrow to tell you what happened. It's getting late, I'm going to bed.........

Quite simply, you must have balls the size of coconuts man,

top marks for scamming a Maser, there was a program about these couple of guys on a while back who spent most of their life 'blagging' thier way into things. They managed to get a brand new mini from BMW (this is when they were really new) and drove it down to Italy, and then got into a footbal final game for absolutely nothing. If your brave enough and can talk the talk then i really dont think its too hard.

Congradts again man

{EDIT - 1000TH post - woooot :P }
