As most of you know, I was caught speeding, so no license for one month... this sucks, but in Switzerland you can still drive a car limited to 45kmh and it's the only country in the world I think.. so here it is my mistress while the 320i rests...

A shiny Smart ForTwo with top speed located somewhere between 45 and 50!!! :?

http://img120.exs.cx/img120/250/smart012bx.th.jpg (http://img120.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img120&image=smart012bx.jpg) http://img157.exs.cx/img157/3856/smart025qa.th.jpg (http://img157.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img157&image=smart025qa.jpg)

And if interested, here is a little video of a 0^50^0 kmh test did this morning :D LOL: http://www.ks-creations.net/temp/smart.zip (1.5 MB). It actually picks up speed like a normal Smart would, but once at 50 the limiter cuts in and you are brought back between 45 and 50 as I said.. and you are stuck there with usually another car less than 30 cm from your backend.

In town you actually don't notice at all, but as soon as you are on a stretch of road limited to just 60 kmh, let alone 80, you feel embarassed and the horizon seems not to come closer at all!
At leat I don't have to rely 100% on public transportation or on my legs :D

Next time I will have to be more carefull on the highway :D

You should take easy in the 320i next time, lol.

Wierd. Isn't it dangerous to drive on the highway with a 45km/h top speed. What if you need to overtake in an emergency situation ?

Anyway have fun  it has a nice speedo

TT
01-10-2005, 01:04 PM
Of course you are not allowed to drive on the highway since the min allowed speed there is 60 kmh. I meant I will have to pay attention next time in the 320i when I will have my license back ;)

I'm sorry to hear about your license, I hope it happend before 1st of Jan.2005 (new laws -> higher bills)

Additional info: These cars (basically any car regulated/limited to 45km/h) even allows to drive with an age of 16! with 18y you can make the driving test and get your license

Yes, it happened the 11th of November, I am just a bit worried since the bill still didn't arrive and I wonder if they waited to judge it for the 2005 to come and apply the new laws since they are partially retroactive as far as I know :? I expect something in the 1000 CHF range, but not sure really sinceit varies for every kanton.. it was in Solothurn BTW

oh man.. thats quite funny.. i find it kind of nice of the swiss government to still allow people to drive on public roads with a suspended license.. i just recently found out i have a court date for 2 tickets i got over a year and a half ago which i have not paid... kind of scared to see what NY State will do to me :(

Iwan
01-10-2005, 01:50 PM
well, even a "to max 45 km/h sealed" GT3 would be OK - can you imagine <-)

take care with this dangerous little devil,

Waatt TT how can u survive that lol. The reason for them allowing it is because that is A PUNISHMENT! Acceleration must be awful! How much time before you can get back driving on ur beemer?

01-10-2005, 07:36 PM
LMAO....good to see you having fun even in a car limited to 50 :D It must be annoying with people up your backside all the time, is the car marked in any way so people know its a 'speed-limited' car? :)
Have fun anyway :D

TT
01-10-2005, 07:40 PM
Well dude, can't you see that big sticker on the trunk? :D Yes it is marked everywhere with those "45" signs :D

antonioledesma
01-10-2005, 11:50 PM
LMAO....LOL....
and you have to be around a car that has all those signs of the very limited speed?
so you could be seen by other ppl... what a shame
looks like it is (or was, I don't know) in Spain, where you were follwed by a person with a ridiculous suit, so that other ppl saw you have debts

so, enjoy your new toy, and you'll appreciate a lot more your bimmer

africanmojo
01-11-2005, 12:19 AM
you will just have to drive everywhere at 45 while stuck in that car. find some nice corners and see how it handles at least that way you could have some fun in it and people always say hire cars always do more then your own well in this case the governments car will.

Well, there are thousands of ppl wich have their license suspended, so the 45 kmh limited cars are not rare at all :P

Hehe, you didn't see the TG episode where they test the Smart on the hammer head did you? The Smart ForTwo simple doesn't handle :) the steering wheel is just a funny gadget wich does almost nothing to that tiny front wheels :D
I already drove a "derestricted" Smart some time ago and I can assure you, you can't find another car that understeer more than it, noway :)
At 45 you are still safe on most conditions, but I am sure I can still miss a roundabout in the wet and end into somebody's car if I will try hard :D

Oh well, at least it is easy to park it everywhere :D

i wouldnt be able to survive in thay little turd. im sure its fun around town, but if it were in the state, it would get run over by two 18wheelers (which i hate btw) before you say applesauce!

I must be blind :( no, I wrote the comment before clicking on the thumbs and then forgot to edit my post
Its actually good you have the signs on the car, so people know you are not going that slow because you want to

LOL (sorry TT) that 0-50-0 vis is hilarious. 1st...pushing it hard...45...shifting to 2nd...oh I already hit 50

Your Smart seems to shift faster than the one I testdrove once. That one took about 1 to 2 seconds before it actually shifted. And idd the handling is totally rubbish :D

This is so funny, but actually it's also sad that you have to drive such shit now. But at least it's better than being banned for driving all motor driven vehicles.

This is a 2004 model (ForTwo), and yes it improved compared to the one I drove 1 and a half year ago, not really quick, but quicker.

01-11-2005, 02:26 PM
Why did the Smart didn't drive faster than 45km/h?
I thought it would drive 100km/h?!

TT
01-11-2005, 02:52 PM
Because they restrict it, so you can still drive it withouth your driving license since the law allows you to drive 45 kmh limites vehicles :)

SilenCe
01-11-2005, 03:29 PM
Oh, i feel sorry to you. Bad.
In Austria there are also those restrict cars, but they were called "Mopedautos" and if i wouldn't have a license i would like to drive such a Smart! I mean, the acceleration isn't so bad!

Darkel
01-11-2005, 03:32 PM
It's still useful when you have to go to work every morning
As I said, here in france when your driving license is suspended, it's REALLY suspended, you can just drive a little scooter or something like that :?

TT
01-11-2005, 03:38 PM
Yep, it's really a great thing to have this option and a whole new market was born around this :)
It was fun to chase a Porsche GT2 today :P didn't last long :D

Toronto
01-11-2005, 03:39 PM
so you get caught speeding and you loose your car for a month?

that sucks, I wounder what schumi does when he gets caught? drives his fiat 500?

TT
01-11-2005, 03:40 PM
You loose your car only if you were fast enough.. if not, fine only... of course there will be a fine too for me :?

SilenCe
01-11-2005, 03:51 PM
In Austria you need a "Moped"license, or a carlicense.

2 or 3 weeks ago was minister of country chased about 7 km be austrian police there with his personal 760iL, His speed was 235 km/hod., Pretty much, but he payd 600 Euros to police and nothing more, not bad :D

BTW how fast do you go?
Police in your country is pretty hard, not drivers coutry

:(

TT
01-11-2005, 05:38 PM
The averaged recorded speed was 157 kmh, considering already the 5 kmh downward adjustment...

bmwmpower
01-11-2005, 05:46 PM
max in our country is 110 or 130 ?

TT
01-11-2005, 07:17 PM
120 :)

Max Power
01-11-2005, 07:59 PM
u got suspended for 150.........weak..........btw y don't u take it to some shop and derestrict the smart till feb, maybe slap a turbo on it too

TT
01-11-2005, 08:07 PM
Well, you loose your license from 155 on as far as I know. My top speed for the records recorderd on the car following me was 178 (+5).. already better than a lame 157 ;)

As for the derestriction, if you are caught with a fake restricted car, I am sure you can say bye-bye forever to your license :) oh yes, the Smart already has a turbo :P

01-12-2005, 12:27 AM
Lol, that's pretty funny in a very sad way. The upside is that at least you get to drive something - that in itself is pretty lucky.

and at least it isn't a really old beat up junker of a car.

possessed_beaver
01-12-2005, 03:31 AM
so now in you're daily sightings will include "guy in bmw abusing me for driving slow"
"angry mum in hummer running over my car for been so slow" ?

01-12-2005, 04:41 AM
How long would you have to drive the Smart until you get the license back?

man I'm really sorry for you TT.. first that you have to drive with the smart (my mom had one once and I really hate that car) and second that you have this stupid laws in switzerland... I guess my license would be in great danger there too

SilenCe
01-13-2005, 02:32 AM
But i think the laws in Switzerland are quite better than in Austria. Because there your were not allowed to drive a Smart without driving license and when you need a car to get to work or to school than i would be glad to have something to drive.
