This is my dilemma. I downloaded a Metallica DVD set “Shit and Purge” or something like that, and it worked on my computer, DVD menus and everything so I burnt it to a 4.7 gig Sony DVD-R, and when I popped it into my DVD player it said that I am in the wrong area and I cant play the DVD or something along those lines, I don’t remember now :D but I’m wondering if there is a converter that will convert it to the “North American” format (I hope there is such a thing)
any ideas?
thanks.

I'm downloading a program called "procoder 2.0" this is supposedly supposed to change the region formats from ntsc to pal and viceversa

Do you mean wrong "region"? If you, that means the DVD you burn is not designed for region 1 (north america). You can change the region code of the DVD to "region free" with the region patch option in DVD Decrypter.

Assuming you got the .IFO file in the VIDEO_TS directory. In dvd decryptor, goto File > IFO > Region Patch > Region Free, and open the .IFO file. Before you do that, you can check the region with the Region Information option. Good luck!

Its a PAL problem , get ifoedit and load the ifo file into it ( inside the dvdr video folder ) , it will tell you if its pal , i assume your standalone dvd player its a sony because i get the same message with pal dvds , others will load it but play it with artifacts .

yea guys i made a mistake in my reasoning, i know its a pal problem now. this dvd is in "pal" format, and my dvd player only reads ntsc. As for the region problem this is not true, because when i checked last night it said that this dvd can be played in tehse regions: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. (basicaly all the regions) and yes pato the dvd player is a sony :) u genious u :) but does any one know how to edit the dvd and convert it to ntsc format? cuz procoder 2.0 doesnt seem to want to change the format with the dvd files :(

Nerovision express 3 will do it , but you will lose all the menues , download it from ahead.de , its like a pack for the normal nero , drag and drop the video files ( the ones with 1gb filesize ) and recode it to ntsc , it does not always work . I suggest you to buy one of those crappy chinese dvd players , those work with pal as well , some RCA are very cheap and can do it too
