There more I go out, there more I look around, the more rice I see. Its only getting bigger. And this scares me because soon we'll have these rice wankers designing the next generation of automobiles.
Gone are the days of the 1970s F1 beauties, gone are the days of mad group C racing gone are the days proper racing.
Every time I go to a book store never do I see a younger person pickup an EVO or a Car magazine. What Im I talking about, anytime I see someone pickup a decent magazine its some man in his 40s going through a mid life crisis looking for a new toy to buy.
The more I turn on the TV, the more rice I see. Drifting competitions, drag racing and other shiite.
There seems to be no interest in Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos....all they care about these days is a riced out mazda, nissan or some other deep fryer.
So what do you think is the future?
I say, its gonna be full of electric cars with big wings, stickers and body kits straight out of the factory...
We need to do something to bring back what cars should be all about. Slippery bodies, V12s and V8s, RWD, NO TC, NO ABS, no bullshit, nervous rear ends, and dashboards with big tachos in the middle.

Here its:
Rice = ghetto kids + no taste
Performance cars = moneyed + taste
Supercars = very moneyed + taste

I c what you mean and I must say I feel the same. Poland is a rather poor country so cars like Ferraris, Lambo's, Astons are way beyond anybody's incomes. Maybe if the people saw the magnificence and the beauty of these cars the rice era would end. I must say that most of the youth in my country are more interested in modified cars. All my friends buy Polish mags such as "GT" where on the front cover ya can see a red Daewoo Matiz with 18' rims instead of a F430. A small part of our population makes up a subculture we call 'dresiarze'. They find it cool to walk aroud in the latest luminescent Addidas clothes and drive around in their 30 year old BMW's with moddified exhausts, their speakers playing techno at max volume. They just piss everybody off all the time. That's why Beemers have lost a lot of reputation in my eyes, I love these cars the fact that they are riced out by these assholes makes me mad.
"The fast and the furious" and "2 fast 2 furious" were both commercial hits here in Poland. Maybe this film has such bad influence.

i think u are confused what really is rice.. yes i agree there alot of rice, specially in toronto...
people modding their car, and buying performance magainze doesnt mean they are rice.. they simply like to trick out their car...
drifting and drag racing is rice??? wtf did that come from??
whats wrong with body kit specially ones that come from factory? how is that rice?? yes.. sticker and big wing are rice on a low hp ghetto car
there are v12 and v8 cars on the road.. and alot of cars on the road are rwd.. just dont buy a fwd.. .. and for traction control.. any true sports car, can turn it off.. is faimly car that cant totally turn it off.. and abs?? wtf is wrong with that.. you can simply stop shorter
and no. i am not a ricer man.. and yes. i do know some knowledge about ferrari, lambo, porsche, konisegg, zonda

No you are confused. Putting a turbo on your car doesnt make it rice, putting a useless body kit on your car is rice. Unless that body kit improves your downforce and lessens your drag its not rice...but lets be real here, 90% of those body kits just add drag and nothing else. And please how many of the rice mobiles arent shitty FWD low HP deep fryers?????Tell me please,,,its one in a thousand that you see a modded Evo or a WRX or a Skyline.........95% of that scene is full of fucking econo boxes. When they drop a line that goes along something like this -" thats all I can afford"...I just want to laugh. For the money they put into their econo boxes you can get your self a nicely used 944 or find a 914, a car that can actually go fast...unless you trick out your car to go fast, your just a fucking poser trying to look like your the sheeeet with your civic that looks like it can do a 1/4 miles in oh so many seconds.
Fucking barely anyone "tricks out" their car under the hood. If you puting on some new blue led spark plug wires, and change your air filter for one with glitters its fucking rice.
A wing on a civic wont do shit....half of those wings arent even designed with downforce in mind, just look at their shape. And tell me please what is that wing for if all you do is cone dodging at 20mph and possing at whatever those VTECs red line at in first gear.
Drifting is FUCKING RICE WITH A CAPITAL R. Why? Because its all about looking good.....driving and racing is supposed to be about a challenge, about going that thousans of a second faster. Driving around in a circle at 40mph or less is nothing but throttle feathering and oppsite lock...yes its that easy...especialy when they setup the car just for that purpose  talk about challenging.
Its ok to drift for fun as a secondary thing you do on a track day etc....at a some decent speed at least......but when drifting becomes a full on "sport" it just makes me laugh......see no difference between an Armani model walking down the strip and some shit box going around is circles smoking the shit out of rear tires.
ABS and TC was a side comment. And yeah, when you are on a Sunday drive if you are really an enthusiast you should turn all aids off. Its a challenge to feed the power with your own feet, its a challenge to work the brakes your self, not some computer. Might get your self a driver instead. Or take the Taxi.
And what is up with stickers? Stickers are not cool. The only reason race teams use them is for sponsor ship....all it does is makes your car looks uglier....the less stickers the better....you didnt see to many racers with stickers in the 60s did you? Well thats because sponsorships were not as big back in the day.
To the bottom line is this. FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION. Anything that is not functional on a car is rice, and goes against the three words above.
Everything on a Ferrari on a Porsche is there for a reason. You dont see ferrari puting an air vent that is just for looks. They make their cars beautiful because they are shapped by the wind.

@Badmihai - LOL at your comment
C'mon Alex, don't knock VTEC or VVT in general. I'll get all upset
Hondas are great cars, as football (with the round ball) is a great sport, unfortunately both attract idiots.
I agree ABS and TCS should have an 'off' button, but as for twboy's comments about ABS, well let me suggest you try the follow 'test':
Find an empty snowy car park, which shouldn't be too hard as far north as you are at this time of year.
Drive along (not too fast!) put on your brakes and see how far it takes you to stop.
Now do the same thing with the ABS system fuse pulled out, and then see how long it takes you to stop.
I haven't tried this myself but I am told that the test proves that ABS isn't always your friend...

I'm fairly new to this forum, but I have to say I agree with most of SFDMALEX's comments.
Over here in the UK, this worst form of modification to a car seems to be mainly carried out by a section of the population we now refer to as 'Chavs'.
It seems they live only to modify their cars in such ridiculous ways.
It does provide a lot of great entertainment for the rest of us though when these hidious motors see the daylight though. :D

Putting body kit on ur car is rice? Oh yeah?? Let say u buy a Novitec kit for ur Ferrari 360.. is that rice?? How the hell do u know if is making more downforce or not? u going to put it in wind tunnel???? Do u see any tuner company, claming how much downforce with their body kit?? NO.. 99% of them don’t put it in a wind tunnel.. so basically almost every single car with body kit is rice to u… even with little exterior mod
Yes.. I agree with u that.. with the money they put on their civic, they could probably buy a better car.. and I see modded wrx everywhere, with stock exteriors.
Drift is rice? Drift is about looking good? And drift is easy? Do u know how many different drift techniques are there?? Do u know how they judge u on a drift compettion? U probably don’t know.. do u?

ROTFLMAO If 99% of body kits dong go through wind tunnels why would you buy one
Ok buddy tell me how the wing is going to change anything on that civic if its never taken to the track? And yes a good wing is designed in a wind tuner or computer simulations. You can just stick a peice of metal at an angle and expect to produce decent dowfoce without causing more drag then anything  A serious tuner company is what it says "a SERIOUS" tuner company. So I rely on their on their reputation and assume that their body kits actually do something. Certain Vettes need it becaues witt 800bhp the stock body doesnt provide enough stability to keep the car planted at high speed.
Are you trying to tell me that this makes this car faster?
http://www.aros.net/~mstahnky/humor/Rice/Cyborg%20Civic.jpg
Yes, a 360 with a useless body kit is rice. Plenty of riced out 360s out there too for your information.
And no I dont know how drift competitions are judged enlighten me.
Lastly I still dont know why you are arguing....Basicly you support looks over perfomance, if thats so, just say it.

you see manufacturers such as pagani doing small things like moving the exterior mirrors because they were screwing up the airflow to the rear wing severely reducing rear downforce and affecting high speed stability ... doesnt that make your 'argument' total BS ?
lets look at it this way.. most ricers put all this stupid shit on their cars and suddenly think they go faster because of it, yet as you say 99% of it never see's a wind tunnel or anything for testing, how the hell do they even know that its now safe and going to react in a predictable manner.. well in my book you'd have to be a retard to put one of those hideous bodykits on your car if thats the case
RICER = RETARD, thanks to you its now a proven fact

Well last time I checked looking good was not what motorsports are about. So I have to disagree and Ill stick with what I said about Drifting not being a motorposrt.
Cone dodging is ok. THat the farthest rices get though, if they do.
Same with Drag racing. Nothing wrong with it.
Now drag racing in a civic with a big wing and a body kit makes as much sense as two dicks and no pussy. Its wrong.
Real dragsters need wings to keep the car on the ground.
Civics wont get off the ground, so all that wing does is produce useless drag.

I agree that rice is an epidemic and not good overall, I'd say drifting is a great SPORT and requires years of experience and a well set up car. Yes you have to setup a car to drift just like you have to set up a car to track race.
I also think that some body modification is good. Saying that changing the visual appreance of you're car in anyway makes it rice is utter bullshit. You can change a car cosmeticly but it has to be well done. The car you posted above is way beyond what visual modifications should be. Car modification started with hot rods and the like, the whole point is to have a car that looks and goes like noone elses car. Bashing all modification that makes you're car unique completely undermines the whole process.
And for the record I'm completely for speed over looks but there's no reason why looks cannot be modified.

It is a motorsport, just as i regret to say that tractor pulling is also a motorsport - both just not as popular as other types of racing, not that i particuarly admire either.
As for body kits, i totally agree, they're all for looks and not performance.
The increased popularity of "modding" cars has led to many non car enthusiasts trying to equal those out of the fast n the furious etc etc....
I think it has really blurred the boundaries between them and the real modding industry who many people now just assume to be rice. Eg just because they're japanese, doesen't mean they're rice....

You know man, hot rods and custom bikes are cool because I never seen an old school hot roder running around saying that he'll smoke a Ferrari or his car is a speed demon. And most hot roads are actually fast. Period. While ricers arent fast, they just try to make it look as if they are fast. Thats what rice is. But obviously CERTAIN people, not you mate, say that if your car looks fast, it goes fast
If you change the look of your car and say that you did it because you were sick of seeing a load of people with the same thing then I would not call it rice, well that depends on the level of the mod. Changing your rims, etc is not bad. BUT ricerrs change the look of their car and go around TV shows saying "This is a 92 Accord, its all pimped........yeah yeah.....its pimped out, and all of those Porsche snobs get blown away by it at every light"
Oh and again, dont call drifting a motorsport, call it a form of art or something.

Well I still say Drifting is not a motorsport but thats my opinion and the opposite of what Im saying is your opinion and I respect that.
And I can clearly see the boundry between the real modding industry and rice. Japan is the capital of the real modding industry. I trully admire them 1000bhp Skylines and Supras and I aslo admire what Koenig does. And most of the time these tuners use bodykits for a purpose. Like Koenig putting the front splitter on the 360, now that is proper extirior modding, makes the car better and aids the visuals in the process.
But Im not talking about real tuners Im talking about rice.

I haven't tried this myself but I am told that the test proves that ABS isn't always your friend...
my dad used to work a brakes company, and specialized in ABS.
test data proves several things that occur with, or without ABS
on any slick surfaces (ice/water) ABS always stops faster
on dry surfaces, non-ABS stop faster
on dirt, non-ABS stop faster
on snow, ABS doesn't stop faster
~~however, ABS allows for control of the vehicle while stopping, which can be essential, and cruicial when avioding an accident.
the reason non ABS stop faster on snow/dirt is this
http://img109.exs.cx/img109/8664/dirtstopping5td.th.jpg (http://img109.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img109&image=dirtstopping5td.jpg)
ok, so with the tire stopped, the dirt/snow builds up, and causes a barrier that rotational friction does not incure, causeing additional friction... but no steering control.
i hope that make sence, and sorry for hijacking an entertaining thread ... and SDFMALEX, i totally agree 8) those rice burners are everywhere here :x

I just don't understand why you care so much. Let them "rice" out their car if they want, it's their taste not yours. I don't like rice as much as the next person, but it's not my place to tell them they have the wrong OPINION on what looks good on their car. I love EVO mag and CAR mag, but i love my VW magazines which have rice crap in it as well as great engine tuning advice. I also would like to see you try to drift even close to how they do it, don't talk about something you yourself cannot do. All those drifters are also professional race drivers, some of them from best motoring. Just leave them all alone, it's not like a disease thats going to affect you, it's their life not yours.
Man you are so lost. RICERS SAY THEIR CARS ARE FAST, BUT THEY ARENT. How hard is it to understand
1 in 100 drifters is a proffesional racer, Tsychia is one of the few.
And yes I can drift a car. Give me a car and watch.
I havn't met any ricers that have ever said there cars are fast, now they may like to race whatever car they pull up next to and look like an idiot, but they just want to race which i have no problem with. It doesn't mean i'de race them and waist my gas. And their car may be fast enough for them. My point is this topic isn't worth talking about. Let the ricers do what they want, it's always good for a laugh, and my ass you know how to drift. You couldn't go around a whole circle, let alone a circuit if you had to. Everything sounds and looks easy doesn't it, but try it an you'll see. What do you drive by the way, i'm just curious?

But for the majority of the population, ABS will stop them far quicker than unassisted braking, whatever the conditions.....

Maybe this film has such bad influence.
same thing here in Norway, especialy the '86 bmw is popular....I get embaressed on their behalf :?

hrmmm lets see
the rice argument again
heres my two cents
NOT RICE but a "econobox"
http://sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0502_scc_hondataeg/
track car, and fast, function wing, and body mods
this argument can go on for days
basically here is a ricer:
stock engine, or only the ever so popular "intake" and "fart can" lots of body mods and/or stickers, and a shitty ass attitude, also has things such as huge stereos, tvs, or unpainted body kits on their "track/race car"
not rice :
someone who has say a civic, and we will say with a b series motor or something similair with vtec, who may have a slight amount of body mods, but has some actualy power mods under the hood, but appreciates the car for the technology that has gone into the development of his VTEC engine, and considers tuning to be an art, and usually this car is fast, and has good power for what it is
the point i am trying to make, is that labeling every modded civic, mazda, nissan, etc as rice isnt the right way to do it, rice is as much, if not more the personality of the person, rather than the car. granted the number of "ricers" outnumber the "enthusiast" thats no reason to bash a whole group of vehicles.
If you want to see rice, go to a sonic or something on a friday/sat night
if you want to see fast, functional, hondas, go to a honda challenge event, or some autocrosses, or visit small tuning shops, or watch the "pro-am" class of import drag racing, its full of street driven 10 sec hondas
i can speak from experience when i say, yeah dumping 20 grand in a civic is kinda silly, but most people dont plan on it...most buy the car, and say i want some more go...so they add intake, headers, exhuast, maybe some cams....then like it and say ok maybe a lil more, then comes a turbo....etc etc and by the time its done the have spent the money...most real import enthusiasts dont buy a cheapo car, and then dump the money in it right away....its a long process where you dont really realize the money in the car, but that is a null point anyhows, cause if the person is not a ricer, then they prolly have a pretty awesome fast econobox, which is cool, cause if thats what that person likes, and if that person built that car, or that tuning shop built that car and is proud of it, then more power to them
judge the driver, not the kind of car.....
drifting, drifting appears at its surface to be rice, japanese cars, stickered and kitted up, sure, but all race cars have crazy paint jobs and stickers, its part of advertising and sponsors, whether you likd drifting or not, you have to admit the skill of the top drivers is pretty awesome the way the can control a car, and alot of drift drivers came from other forms of motorsport and view drifting as a more easy going and cheaper way to have alot of fun in a car. i also like the affect drifting is having on manufacturers who previously didnt car about the younger demographic, pontiac giving rhys a GTO to drift is cool, its different, and good things will come of it. its also having a impact on tire development as manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon and developing new tires that last longer and can withstand more abuse. so if you hate it, hate it, if you love it, then love it, but either way, good things are coming out of it, =)
just bash the idiots ricing, not the cars ;)

Ricer are hyporcrites, just like me the crazy hyprocrite from canukistan.
And and I drive a 92' HONDA CIVIC with a big wing, big body kit, a pimp pink paint job, with a knob off of a manual car on my 4 speed auto.
Do you know what rice is? I mean jezzzzz.People start reading and stop beating off.

Thank you man. That was a good read. For once somebody actually has the right mind and READS.
I have no problem with guys putting a little body kit or something like that, again look at Koenig I previously talked about.
Getting back at drifting...again I see it more as a form of art and I like your tire point...I just dont agree when people try to say that its a motorposrt. Because motrosports are not judged buy how good you look doing somethiung.

oh yes... on M3?
AC Schnitzer is not rice. AC schnitzer is firm that works with many teams in touring car series etc. What they put on their cars is straight from the race track, so it doesnt take a genious to figure out that their body kits are actually aerodynamic aids, and not "HEY LOOK AT ME" material. Their diffusers are functional, actually stock sports cars are coming out with rear diffusers these days.
Same goes out for their wings.
I still think that certain people in this thread are either retarted or just dont read, or are a ricer.
Many still didnt pickup the defition of rice and ricers.....

And just look at all these drag racing enhancment mods. Heavy ass stereos....with 3 subwoofers that they took out of some speakers from Salvation army...
And wings along with body kits that cause more drag then a parachute lol

Slippery bodies, V12s and V8s, RWD, NO TC, NO ABS, no bullshit, nervous rear ends, and dashboards with big tachos in the middle.
i think u are confused what really is rice.. yes i agree there alot of rice, specially in toronto...
people modding their car, and buying performance magainze doesnt mean they are rice.. they simply like to trick out their car...
drifting and drag racing is rice??? wtf did that come from??
whats wrong with body kit specially ones that come from factory? how is that rice?? yes.. sticker and big wing are rice on a low hp ghetto car
there are v12 and v8 cars on the road.. and alot of cars on the road are rwd.. just dont buy a fwd.. .. and for traction control.. any true sports car, can turn it off.. is faimly car that cant totally turn it off.. and abs?? wtf is wrong with that.. you can simply stop shorter
and no. i am not a ricer man.. and yes. i do know some knowledge about ferrari, lambo, porsche, konisegg, zonda
I agree. if i were to get a car and decided to modify it, the ast thing on my mind would be cheesy bodykits! no sir, the first thing i would do was consult a professional, and get immediatley to work on making the car DRIVE better, not look better. as for drifting, i dont really pay attention to that, and as such, have no comment.
