View Full Version : Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo?

According to thecarconnection.com there is a saleen S7 twin turbo in the works with 750 hp and 700 ft-lbs. lets see JC and the stig test this bad boy on top gear

“Just a few years ago, 500 horsepower was considered extraordinary. Today it’s commonplace,” noted Fred Blount, vice president of sales for Saleen, Inc. While “commonplace” may be a bit extreme in itself, there are now at least 20 cars on the road that break the 500-hp barrier, according to a count by TheCarConnection, with more coming. So what is a respectable supercar, such as the Saleen S7, supposed to do? When it launched in 2002, it was the only street-legal car in the U.S. to exceed that barrier. Now the upgraded Saleen S7 Twin Turbo will remain tops in the domestic category by adding twin turbochargers giving it a big boost for 2005. The S7 Twin Turbo edition is rated at 750 hp and 700 lb-ft of torque. Other changes for the new year are meant to improve the car’s downforce and handling, as well as the ergonomics of the interior.

you know being from the US I find it kind of odd that the only super car I've never seen on the road is the S7 I've seen quite a few but never on the road. The closest I got was one driving off the trailer at the dealer so atleast I got to hear it.

thats really pushing the envolope now..haha...pretty soon we will have cars with more horse power than even f1 cars...we are already very near it.

thats fucking awesome!
since it already does 0-60mph in 3.3-ish seconds, i bet we'll see a sub-3 second time now!

that is one serious supercar already, so adding those turbos will really separate the men from the useless celebrities/sports stars when they get behind the wheel.

kind of a shame the S7 never got any respect in its N/A form, hopefully more people will take notice and do big extensive road tests now :D

see the reason this never got alot of attention was because celebrities didn't buy it because they ONLY buy a car for the badge like all those pricks who can afford the 65 series AMG's but only get the 500's or the dipshits who buy the C5 convertible autos or the Escalades and H2's. How many Celebs do you see driving M cars, or top end Porsche's w/out 90 lb rims. (saw it on a CGT) Atleast this car was featured along with the ME412 on MTV Cribs DUB edition so maybe some dipshit rappers will buy one so that us normal folk can afford to buy Saleens (maybe not the S7 but still)

if i had to option i think id take the S7.

Hmm, wish I could find some more pictures of it...from that picture it doesn't look like they did anything to distinguish it from the normal S7. I took a little visit over to the Saleen site...and they didn't have anything about it either, or maybe I missed it.

lol i always wondered about that and i could never understand it. like britney, but i think it would piss me off more if she did buy the 65 AMG becuase she doesnt know how to park much less handle 738 ft-lbs of torque

so i think its best that they stick to their 500s rather than step up to the 65 AMG series and leave those cars to people who will appreciate it. 8)

Damn, thanks a lot for the pics dude...!

I hope they at least change the wheels for the turbo version of the S7, or do something subtle, a bit like the difference between the SL55 and SL65. If I was paying all that extra money I would want people to know I had the turbo version and not that pansy N/A S7. ;) :P

well if you look closely there are a few subtle differences throughout but very hard to differ. The underside looks to have different aerodynamic design to it.

Badass. It was quick enough with the N/A engine!! I don't think they have changed much in the design...I think the rear lip is a bit bigger and they have also created easier airfow from the back.

I know what you mean both of the Saleen dealers near me have had a few go through them and more that I've only heard of but never got to see I would say atleast 6 (that I know of) in the past 3 years but I have yet to see one on the roads. Haven't seen any lately and I go back to every once in a while to check now that I have a Digital Camera. All the Saleens are gone even the Mustangs.

The only time ive ever seen an S7 is when i was at the Auto Show, thats it. Damn this is kinda depressing when you think about it. The worlds greatest supercar is american and we cant even find one on the road. :x

You are quite nationalistic aren't you? :) It's definitely one of the most astonishing supercars on sale by now ,however, it's very disputable whether it should be hailed as the best one :?

I reckon that a proper supercar should be equipped with a lusty V12 rather than a force-fed V8.

Than whats that make the F40, the Porsche Carrera GT, the Koenigsegg, 360 Modena, F430, Lambo Gallardo, SLR McLaren, and a whole host of other supercars? The Saleen is the most underated supercar out there. I believe it to be the best on sale right now. Nothing matches its good looks and performance.

Seriously... I don't know why it didn't get the respect it deserved. I would have loved to see an S7 on Top Gear or 5th gear and see what they think.

Maybe cuz they just don't export to euro a lot... dunno.

I might agree in terms of performance...But i find its appearance quite out-dated, it looks like a supercar from mid 90s whereas the zonda or an enzo are more up to date or even futuristic and that's another thing I would expect from a supercar. However, it is a matter of tastes...Btw I've never heard S7's sound - do you happen to know where to download some clips or road tests (if there are any)?

I can see some very small changes to the appearance...but I think they should do a little bit more, and maybe change the look of the interior. I would really like to see a test of this S7TT to see if it can actually manage those performance numbers...

you wanna know why the saleen hasnt changed its appearence, or why it looks like that? Its the best design for that car. For what the saleen has to do. I believe that the saleen has enough downforce to do a loop or something like that. Also i think the enzo and the zonda are very ugly, and i like the design of the saleen better. Still not as nice as the McLaren but very nice.

i had no idea that they were over there :o
theyve done fairly well over here too... its kinda funny the story, but the S7 was never meant to be a race car (like the macca F1) but several costomers, and teams said they were interested before the car was availble for public purchass, and race cars require less safety development then the government does... so there were several race cars right away:)

the car has done well over the last few years, but not as spectacular as the C5R from Chevrolet... of course, GM has a much larger budget to deal with...

Yeah, the physics analysis of the S7 show that at 160mph through 180mph, the car hits an aerodynamic downforce "sweet spot" where it creates more downforce than the weight of the car. hence it can theoretically drive upside-down when it goes above 160mph.

that would be quite an experience....

Yup, that came from a review of the "old" (ie, current) S7. I believe the new one should b able to do that as well. I forget the stats, but it's supposed to have even more downforce with less drag on the new car cuz of the new front fascia. That might change the "sweet spot" some, but we'll see. can't wait till more info and more reviews come out.... anxiety is killing me, already.
