hello,this seems very interesting.

HSV today unveiled a new 4WD Coupe.
"The ability to direct that power to all four wheels virtually places Coupé 4 in a class of its own. Indeed, driving HSV's new all-wheel drive two door requires a recalibration of the mind in comparison to traditional two-wheel drive high performance V8 vehicles. Such is the level of traction available in virtually any road conditions that all of the engines output can be used more often.

“Performance is not just about outright kilowatts,” says Phil Harding, HSV Director of Engineering. “It's about getting the available power to the ground and the Quad Drive system just opens up new avenues of opportunity.”

“The driver of a Coupé 4 will be able to have his foot down earlier and harder through a given corner than he would in a two-wheel drive car. Therefore, point-to-point it has the potential to be a quicker car. I know for a fact that this is the quickest HSV we've ever had around Holden's Lang Lang ride and handling circuit.”

yeah it will a change for the good i think, making the cars more advanced. Although this may put the price up a little. “Performance is not just about outright kilowatts,” i think its good the Australians are crawling out of hte american influence.

Its not the SSX.I saw that thing at last year at the motorshow same as the 427 Monaro.
This car is the Monaro 4wd built and designed by HSV www.hsv.com.au/cars/vy2
I reckon its for the good that HSV is thinking out side the square(they always have really, look at the Walkinshaw VL back in 1988,No one else in the world had anything like it),.

Thanks for the pics dude. Very interesting. wasnt the engine from the VL a nissan? or was that the 1989 model? Its a good thing Holden is spreading its wings, but it has to have more quality control, its just poor the way some of there car handles at certain speeds...

The Hsv Walkinshaw didn't have the Rb30et(nissan 6 cyclindar turbo 3ltr sohc),it had the 304ci V8 instead. The car you thinking of is the Calias Turbo. Most VLs came with the Rb30 series engines unless you wanted a bent 8

Yeah, i'm not sure about this. I think holden should vary a bit more between models. Al they really change in the looks are teh lights grill front and back.
A new shape would be nice. But still it is an improvment.

What do you mean?Keep Dreaming?
Mate,I don't care if you like it or not,but Holden has done something right.Although its no Skyline GTR R34,If Hsv makes these thing 300kw(410bhp),I think the skyline is going to have a hard time...Although it will never take the Skyline GTR Mythology, these car will be in a class of its own.

yes despite the fact thazt it wil lbe a good, car i think the fact remains that it is a holden and as yet dosnt have the name.

It does look like it weights 2 tons though...too bad, I thought they might have actually gotten the idea of power to weight ratio...but...baby steps I guess..

10-17-2003, 02:13 AM
Yeah dude i hate to admit it but this new Hsv still is not going to even intimidate the skyline...It can go quick on a strait line...but the age old corner will put it in its place as usual. Holden is bringing out better technology late....but better late than never i suppose....

Kangaroo Boy
10-17-2003, 09:14 AM
I never really said it will Flog the crap out the skyline,I just reckon it will keep up to it.
Does anyone watch production car racing?(GT Performance)
If so,I have one question,WHY does the HSV GTS 300kw Commodore 4 door stay with the Sti WRX and Evo around the twistys?Even a BMW M3 coupe? Can someone answer me about that one.HSV do alot to make theses cars handle(they spend more than 35 million a year on developing handling).I'm think some people should respect them, and except them for what they are.I know they aren't skyline GTR,but they do handle(because I have driven one),and they have shit load of power.Although weighing in nearly 1900kgs.They are a good performance car.

only been in one. won't complain abt straight line speed, but even as passenger i felt the weight of the car which is something i don't like in cars

Kangaroo Boy
10-17-2003, 01:15 PM
Yeah I know what you mean. When I was doing Work experience at Subaru dealership,I went for a ride in couple WRXs and even couple of Sti(22b came in for new struts). As you accelerated you know that the car is perfected in weight, there isn't much weight need to pull, where as the commodore you can notice that difference. It lags a bit due to the weight.I have been in the Monaro, but I was told you don't haven't that feel of a heavy car.

sorry for being a little off topic here, Vauxhall decided to bring in the Monaro to customers in UK, here is the press release:
NEW VAUXHALL THUNDERS IN FROM DOWN UNDER

Monaro for UK from spring 2004
Powered by 5.7 litre V8
Full four-seater coupe
Priced from £28,500

Vauxhall today confirmed it will introduce a true rear wheel drive musclecar for car enthusiasts – the Monaro.

The new Vauxhall Monaro will be available from the spring of 2004 powered by a 5.7 litre V8 engine developing 328hp and 347lbs/ft of torque.

This stylish full sized four-seater coupe will accelerate to 60mph in just over six seconds and reach a top speed in excess of 160mph.

The Monaro was launched in Australia in 2001 and Vauxhall has decided to bring this iconic coupe to car enthusiasts in the UK, but only in a limited number of 300 per year.

The car will be sold in the UK with a comprehensive specification including leather eight-way electric seats, 18 inch alloy wheels, full size driver, passenger and side airbags, electronic climate control and six-disc autochanger.

There are two driver aids to handle the considerable power and torque. A traction control system – with an off switch – and the accelerator.

The Vauxhall Monaro will start from approx £28,500 and offer more power per pound than any car on the UK roads.

Kevin Wale, Vauxhall managing director, said: "The Vauxhall Monaro is a great car for the real enthusiast. The Monaro is an icon in Australia and I am sure the UK car enthusiast will thoroughly enjoy it. This also demonstrates GM’s ability to bring the best of its products to fill niches in other markets."

whats this tv program you speak of dude? i havent seen a hsv keep up in a corner with a sti, evo or a M3 ever....and when your inside it feel's like a boat....for $80-90G i rather one of the 4 22B's in australia. or perhaps even a GTR. A freind of our recieved his GTS with a blown head light and dirty fingerprints on the hood...thats holden quality for you i guess...Not saying its complete shit..but for the price it should be something fairly decent.

stracing
10-22-2003, 02:42 AM
check the tv program, its on channel 7. usually on sat 12pm. but he's right tho, the hsv has spanked the evo, sti etc...in the wet too. i was in shock when i saw that.

there are 5 22b's in australia and i doubt 90k is enough to get one. the owners can sell it with only 5% depreciation and ppl will buy it because of its rarity.

sikx5
10-22-2003, 02:49 AM
i will watch out for that show, im in brissy so i guess its different shows here. Theres 5 22b's ai. shit. My bro should of bought the one for $55G, sold within 12hours though  . Im still in shock that the hsv spanked the evo...far out...and on the wet too...there is something sus going on there..how can it beat the evo..that has so much technology centerd on handling...the yaw system i think its called? was on the top gear review, showed how the evo attacked and cut into the corner and lifted the rear wheel where as the sti just ran wide...not to mention the evo's,sti are all wheel drive....and the hsv is only RWD....i having trouble here dude...

stracing
10-22-2003, 03:16 AM
well 5 to be exact but only four remains on the road whilst subaru australia kept one for promo.

$55K?!!! are you sure it was the 22B? they go for $100K easy. plus the original owners haven't departed them yet. also there are 3 in nsw and 2 in vic, so i doubt he would of seen one in brisbane unless he was in those two states mentioned.

sikx5
10-22-2003, 03:33 AM
It wasnt in Australia Dude. It was in Japan and yeah it was a 22B. How did they compliance the 22B in australia? as the wrx was brought in by subaru australia so they can not be complianced in australia.

gmd97
10-22-2003, 05:02 AM
i think for 55k he might mean the 400 2 door, and 400 4 door sti's they brought in.

btw, monaro isnt about going fast on low traction surfaces, its about lighting up the rear tires on low traction surfaces.

sikx5
10-22-2003, 07:57 AM
Nah dude it was a 22B, it was not in Australia, was in Japan. And yeah the monaro is about lighting up the rear tires on low traction surfaces :D :D :D

all v8's are rwd in australia, comfort is second priority here

gmd97
10-24-2003, 04:54 AM
are there any Front Wheel Drive only v8's? it seems like a lot of torque to be putting through just the front wheels.

all v8s i know of are either RW, or all wheel drive.

altezza
10-24-2003, 05:46 AM
yes, there are cars using V8 engines with FWD
e.g.:
2004 Cadillac DeVille (4.6L Northstar V-8 (300 hp))
2004 Cadillac Seville (275 hp)
2002 Cadillac Eldorado (300 hp)
2004 Pontiac Bonneville (275 hp)

there are a lot more aussies on here than i first thought.

btw, i reckon u could do one of these up to be as fast as a modified skyline in a straight line. would probably never have the handling though.
