Well, it seems the price has changed quite considerably as the original S-version costs 300k as far as I know.
Nevertheless, one fact remains, as you've said it's a bargain. :)

F isn't a particularly sporty letter, lol. I'm sure I see an R on the back of it. Some good updates though, look forward to seeing how well it goes now. More importantly though, with those intake tweaks I want to know how it sounds now :D.
Just read this in the mag... sounds great, but it's sooooo expensive... almost Enzo money (.... well, for a customer anyway) :o
I've got some concerns regarding accuracy of the info provided....First off, it seems that the tag at the back says "Zonda R"(which actually makes sense)..Apart from that I doubt the Zonda S has downforce of 700kg at 320kph -it has 500kg at 300kph - so this might be another mistake.
Ahh...I've just come across a new article over at Autocar - hopefully more accurate

These pictures show that the new Zonda will retain its elegant curves, but adopt race-car looks. A wider single-piece rear spoiler helps increase downforce by 40 per cent. Larger 19- and 20in alloys wheels hide bigger 385mm Brembo discs. Carbon-ceramic discs will be optional.
i think that Pagani must have done some wind tunnel research over the last few years, as there are some some segnificant differences... Mirrors as goodduck mentioned, rear spoiler cirtainly... but the spoiler alone causing 40% more D/F ? i dont think so... the previous Zonda had some major issues with the rear wing... some speculated that it was nothing more then a styling cue, and produces little to no D/F, which i wouldnt doubt.
reshaping a few key areas would likely be the result of more air assaulting the rear wing as its going 220 mph :P

nice find, cant wait to see it tested in top gear around the track. definitly a sexy looking car. has the torque stayed the same or increased, that was always a strong point of the zonda and the 7.3L being around 550. anyways thanks for the info guys.

From Autocar:
Pagani’s 220mph Zonda S is to get even faster with a host of wide-ranging updates for 2005. The 555bhp Zonda S is to be superseded by the lighter, 620bhp Zonda R.
Fitted with new intake and exhaust systems and a modified ECU, and with an estimated 50kg shaved off its kerbweight, the AMG-powered Zonda’s power-to-weight ratio will jump to more than 500bhp-per-tonne. It should be more than a match for the 484bhp-per-tonne Ferrari Enzo.

It is entirely plausible that an extra 200kg of dowmforce is applies at 20km/h more.... it may have adaptive elements to the wings etc...

Really?...Well, as far as I know the Zonda S doesn't have adaptive wings in contrary to, for instance, the Enzo.
^^^
The idea is that the car is a an evolution.... i.e. new technology is implemented.
Like the carbon-ceramic brakes.... they didn't appear on the S :|
I guess I'm the one who should laugh...We're speaking about the Zonda S,the R-version is not involved !!! No adaptive wings,no new technology so I doubt it can have at once 500kg at 300kph and 700kg at 320kph...get it?

Finallyt the Zonda gets thwe punch it deserves. 555BHP from a 7.3 litre engine dioesn't sound all that impressive, the extra 65HP and reducing the weight by 50 kilos should give the Enzo and the MC12 a run for their money. Can't wait to see the first tests :D

I've been expecting this update!...great pics...thanks....I have to say I really disklike the headlights and the side mirror, the back looks better than the current one, but Pagani please stay away from those ugly headlights....

Gotta agree with you there, the lights at the front don't look as good, but they have improved the ass...I wasn't too fond of the old one...looked a bit too over the top to me.

I cannot wait to see the evolution of the Zonda...the experience says me that it will be a trim of the car rather than a relevant update.......currently the car has two sides...on the one hand the car looks awesome in the front or glancing it from any side, whereas i dont fancy too much with the cars back

Sad that the twin wing is gone... I always thought that it set the Zonda apart. I love the new rear end though... headlights aren't so bad, but I guess they could be better.

I'm loving the car overall, but I'm already missing the original headlights and the split rear wing. The old wing was really unique, and these new heart-shaped headlights are just goofy. Looks like it'll be one hell of a performer though. Pagani is really trying to stick it to the best in the world...

No it's not OMG...THEY really are talking about both cars in comparison but they are mentioning DIFFERENT figures(700kg/900kg both at 320kph)...Figures I've mentioned are related to the Zonda S only.

i think the old one was more for rear visibilily. but if you add in the small gap, and angle it more, you can get 40% more downforce.

At the price of drag of course. But you do realize that the new wing isn't the only thing they did to improve downforce, its just the most significant. The addition of the naca duct behind the front fender wells reduced lift as well as drag, and of course there are tons of other little tweaks.
I still miss the split rear wing though... it was very unique

not nessisarily... if pagani actually spent some good research time inside a wind tunnel, they could reshape various elements to have higher pressure at the rear with little, or no parasitic drag tendencies... not only that, but if designed in conjuntion with the rear element, then chances are that the wing wasnt nessisarily placed at a greater angle of attack, which would cirtainly increase drag through 'stall' charactaristics... where a lot of the deflected air would be drawn back to the vacuume on the underside of the wing. i think they would have greater d/f if maintaining a weak angle of attack, as well as not infringing into wasted energy induced by drag. then it would truly need the extra power to hit the same velocities with the added d/f and drag

^a nice option could be a completely removable rear spoiler (now that it's in one piece), a la koenigsegg. downforce when you need it, visibility/lower drag for high speed runs when you desire.

That's a wise solution...Perhaps the only thing I like about the Egg.
