Its good to see that Michael Schumacher is generous to those in need. I wonder if any other sport stars will follow his lead.
"The dawning of the New Year has not been as joyful for us this year because of the catastrophe in Asia. We sympathise with the victims in their grief," Schumacher said.

10 Mil is alot coming from a single person. I have read that Schumi is a generous person and this really shows it. He is even taking the time to see that it gets put where it is needed. Hopefully other F1 stars and teams will join in.

Well schumy is by far the best paid f1 driver, so i dont expect any other driver to come anywhere near that 10 million, but its the gesture of goodwill the matters the most. And i have to say he does show a lot of character. I dont like him on the track(cause he always wins :P), but he does seem be a caring person with all the charities he supports.

I think he already has a 'special' agreement with the local government where he lives in Switzerland, so I don't think that was the reason for doing it.

Well...I'm glad to see he has some depth as a person and not only as a stoic and robotic man. Aside from the 7 championships I now have real respect for him.

very admirable of schumi. 10 mil from a single race driver is a very impressive donation

A few NBA players have said they will donate $1000 for every point they score in a certain game this season.....which will probably 'only' be around $25-30K each, which is not much considering the $$$ they earn. :(

His salary in Ferrari (endorsement aside) is about 20mil.....donating 10 mil is like asking us to donate our half our anual income to charity..that is ALOT!!! I am very happy to see my favorite driver making such a generous gesture.

He gave more that our country including all individual donations.

01-05-2005, 08:31 AM
lol yeah i was just gonna say he probably donated more than few small countries...
well im sure schumi makes more money from sponsorships than from his actual drivers salary, but still, that is a lot of money to donate by yourself.
In reference to his character...i do agree that he does show much emotions, thats just him. I personally love someone like valentino rossi who shows so much of emotion in his racing and his passion for the sport, its just awesome to watch him every race. I wished f1 had someone like that too. Everyone in F1 is pretty boring in my opinion.
Theres still no doubt that schumi gets a lot of respect from people on and off the track. I dont like him as an f1 fan, but i have a lot of respect for the man.

I can think of a few things that i could use that money to buy :P.
But there are people who need it more obviously.

^ I just heard that on the radio, so he was affected personally by the disaster. :(
BTW, the bodyguards 2 sons (4 and 5yo) also died there - not sure if thats mentioned in the link since I didn't read it.

yeh it's because his bodyguard died in the disaster, someone who was very close to him, and the bodyguard lost his family, so he donated 10million..
