- based on larger elise chassis with narrower door sills
- 2 small seats a la Audi TT
- base engine a turbocharged 2.0 toyota (but it says only "in the 200hp range"?)
- Possibly considering 2 GM engines (turbo 2.2 or 3.6 V6)

What a bad idea. I am not really sure why Lotus would go out and make their Track Special car into some sort of 4 seating GT... Stick to the goodies lotus. (though i do agree compared to the current elise this is niceer)

This is tottaly retarted, stupid, idiotic and every other sigle word there is for stupid...
An Elise is a 2 seater sports car with god like handling!

It isn't an elise..... it's and elise BASED model that will sit inbetween the current elise and the future esprit replacement.....

i think its a bad idea by Lotus of even thinking to make a 2+2 version of such a beatiful car. Thumbs Down from my side

I think it's a great idea monetarily for Lotus, and I like the idea of them breaking into the GT category with a potentially great car. If they manage to squeeze in some trunk space somewhere, I think this will be a success, and would potentially sell really well in the USA. :D

i think its great, lotus needs to expand its model line to make more money....
at least they didnt make a SUV lol
i hope the go with a toyota motor instead of a GM engine, which i am sure they will considering the amount of cooperation that lotus and toyota has had since the 60s
its a cool looking car, lotus only sells a couple cars now, and if they expand, they could open the door to new models and development they cant support financially currently

2L turbocharged toyota engine.. sounds like a revision and revival of the 3sgte?

is the base 2.0L still the same engine from the celica that is in the current elise? I think going for a turbocharged or a tweaked V6 from toyota would be a better choice than going the GM route

I dunno why some of yall dislike this car, it wont replace the elise its just based of the same chassis, which means it will still handle great. Lotus has a great platform in the elise and this could be a really good car.

I think that apart from the front lights it's a very good looking car. People don't seem to notice that it is Elise based and not actually an Elise or Elise replacement. I think it makes sense for Lotus to produce a more practical sports car to capture more sales in order to keep the company afloat, it's not like they haven't done this before either. In the 70's you could buy an Elan with two small extra seats so it isn't like they are betraying their heritage. The way some people have reacted to this car, anyone would think they've just announced a 3 cylinder diesel people carrier with live axles and leaf springs!

So what's rally that bad about the idea?
Well as we have read and seen from the zillions of road tests and reviews of the Lotus Elise..the car is all about handling..... its just a good track car..i doubt that the new 2+2 will have the same or even similar characteristics as of the old 1.....may be just the name with a 2+2 tag with it...

im no iking i hat much. there moving aay from he basic concept of lotus: low weight, low horspower, driving purity. its like bmw with mini. hey keep making it bigger. :(
i guess that the 3.6l V6 mentioned in the text is the same buick engine that is turbocharged or something in the sport exige(posting 400hp). 2 or 2+2 that would be quickish ;)

no... current one is the 1.8L 2zzge found in the current celica..
toyota, in the past just had two 2L high performance engings.. both found on the previous MR2, celica GT4, caladina, and RS200 .
3sgte = max 255hp stock,
3sge max 215hp stock.
