Audi, mercedes, and BMW. three top brands. this is the new look of audi models. from nowon A3 A4 A6 and A8 will have this grill which is very good looking i think.

what do you think about the new look of audi? does it look good? also the new A6 series. and the mercedes models. do they also look good? for instance the new CSL, the new slk, and M series. also the new TT from audi. (i think all of them looks great)
but also think of bmw. the 7 series, 5 series, X3 and 1 series.
both audi and mercedes (my opinian) capable of making better designs for the current and upcoming models. why can not bmw do it? their cars are ugly i think. i think the E series is still a very attractive car. do you agree

Funny how you picked BMW's ugliest car, but placed an attractive Merc and Audi. Since you won't do it, I'll put the M5 and M6 up.

I think the 5 series has more presence than the E class, but both are better looking than the A6

I think the A8 is better looking than the 7 or the S-class.

I think the 3 series is better looking than an A4 or a C-class.

But... between engineering prowess, it's a toss up between Audi or BMW.

The poll title is very misleading...

You're basing which brand is successful on the opinions of the members of the forum?

Define "successful" then.

Because if your definition of successful is by virtue of worldwide sales, then the official rank is BMW, then Mercedes, then Audi.

I hate the new Mercs and hate the old mercs styling, its always been very boring in my opinion. BMW's of the late 90's early 00's were the shit and some of the best looking cars of my generation although their designs went slightly downhill for a moment they've realized their mistakes and are starting to turn out great looking cars (read: M5 is a beast). Outa the three brands listed hear Audi does look the best in my opinion. Although controversial the new grill does help them stand out. Now if only they would stop making the VW look exactly the same.

yes i put the 7 series but it is expected to be the new M7 ;) so it should look good. i could put also m5 or m6 pic which are also known models. but i think thay are ugly too. current 3 series (including cabrio, coupe and m3) is better then the upcoming 3 series.

That's a matter of opinion. Everybody agrees that the M5 looks great, the M6 is stunning, and the upcoming 3 series is classy (even Jeremy Clarkson likes it, and he hates BMW).

The 7 is the ugliest BMW on sale, plain and simple.

well if you put some sport trim and wheels a good looking exhaust, most of the cars (even the ugly ones) will look great. You said M5 looks good. but when the new 5 series came out i remember most of the members said it is a dreadful car. it was accepted as an ugly car.

So why not put a standard 6 series instead? That's not an ugly car. The standard 5 is ugly. The M5 with the body kit isn't. The M6 isn't either. You could've even placed a standard E90 3-series instead, which people have accepted isn't ugly.

But no. You chose to put an ugly looking concept car that doesn't even exist in an attempt to sway opinion. You're a naughty boy.

In terms of design nothing beats Mercedes, in terms of build quality nothing beats Audi, and in terms of fun and handling nothing beats BMW. So no clear winner here :!:

what i ment was about the upcoming models. why should i put an old model. i also said current 3 series is very good looking car. but the upcoming models are ugly i said. your opinian is that 6 series is a good looking car on the other hand it is not good for me i said. that is so simple. and probably wou will also agree about the fact that, older models of BMW were better loking than the current replacements? on the other hand audi and mercedes replacements are better that the older models aren t they?

Upcoming models? You put a current A8 there. That's not an upcoming model, and neither is the CLS. The M7 isn't even in concept form, nevermind upcoming. If you're really talking about upcoming models, then we should either the upcoming RS6 or the upcoming TT there, alongside the upcoming M6 and the upcoming M5, and the upcoming CLS55 and the upcoming ML55.

Regarding your opinion on the newer models being better than the old ones, nope, I disagree. Audi's upcoming TT is gorgeous. BMW and Mercedes don't have anything within its price range that will touch it. Audi's just released A4 is good looking as well, but isn't as handsome as the upcoming 3 series, but is better looking than the C-class. Audi's new A6 is dreadful, and is 3rd behind the E-class and the 5 series. If you say "what about the upcoming RS6?" Then I would say (IMO) the M5 is better looking, because the M bodykit does wonders to the standard 5, as does the RS bodykit to the standard A6, whereas the E55 would come 3rd because the AMG bodykit really doesn't help much.

Now if you say that the old 5 is better than the new 5, again, on what basis? Stock? I agree. Throw in the M bodykit, and I would have to disagree. The new 5 series with the optional M bodykit (with M rims) is stunning, and has far greater road presence than the old one, even with the old M bodykit.

All I'm trying to say is that since the point of the poll is design, and is a topic which is largely subjective, you should've played fair and placed each brand's best looking car, instead of deliberately trying to sway voters by using a mismatch of pictures.

Ciao.

BTw its funny that many people complain on BMW new design. Although there is people who dont like it and want Bangle gone, bmw is still selling more cars than they have ever done before.

Bangle wont leave and as long as bmw selling more cars than they have done before, Bangle is here to stay and I love it :D

i hated the bangle 6 at first because of its rear, but then i start to realize more and more cars are having that rear, and its kind of "normal" now. like the Bentley GT, and new Nissan Maxima

go BMW

Cars look really different in person.
I didn't like the 6 that much until I saw a black one parked on the street. The car looks awesome in person, a lot of details stand out, the rear is really attractive, which is one of the things i disliked the most.
The new Audi A6 looks really good, the grill gives it a strong presence and it has a great mid/rear section. :o

BIG surprise here, from me: BMW

BMW has had increasing sales every month for the past few years (exactly how long, i can't recall). BMW has also set 9 international records with their Hydrogen prototype, which have been confirmed by the FIA. http://www.motorworld.net/forum/showthread.php?p=328786#328786

Not to mention the fact the BMWs build quality is 50 times better than that of Mercedes and BMW has more class than Audi.

I love the styling of the E60 and E65/66 (i'm wearing my flameproof suit, so feel free to try and phase me 8) ) i think mercedes look to weird with those Bug-eyed headlights, and the SLKs look like smashed Crossfires.(oh wait...they ARE Crossfires  :P )

Bangle is not part of the design team at BMW any more. So there will be no more Bangle designed cars from BMW ;)

Bangle is still with the company, just not the head of Design as he was before. The 1-Series was the last Bangle influenced design...

Bangle still have much to say about bmw design

Bangle still have much to say about bmw design

actually he doesn't :)

i have a friend who knows Bangle very well...the next BMWs will have little to no Bangle influences. His position is now of an Executive Design Director at BMW, he is not working on the ACTUAL design team any more and is not contributing to the designs on next generation BMWs. He can advise, accept, reject other designs, but he is not designing them or a part of the actual designs process other than as executive who handles corporate affairs (financial, etc..)

cars like the 5-series were designed while he was still directly a part of the process.

if you have a friend who says so I have to belive you then.....

But he created the grounds for the new design. I believe Hoydoonk replaced him?

Just_me
01-04-2005, 04:08 PM
Well its obvious that Bangle are getting less responsibility for the design when they face lift models much sooner than they normaly do........

the 7 series are getting a facelift cuz of the bad reception it got, I dont think its the only one wich will be face lifted either.......

I think its due this March..... :?

it not sooner then before, this is the time all bimmers get a facial. It usually takes 3 years and then they get a facelift. Same thing now as before.

Although negatism from people, bimmers are selling very well and I think all nay sayers have a problem that BMw are doing so well. Its funny to hear all the explanations the nay sayers have for that

I love it when the bimmer supporters try hard to defend a hopless design, even the heads at BMW have partial admitted the design was a bit off....

They off course disguised it it as...hmmm let me try and remeber..."the world is not ready for this design yet" this was the pretty much the words off the bosses.......

but off course they dont know as good as you.........
They have moved the man responisble away from the position where he is directly influencing the design they have been working on a face lift for the 7 series for a long time, and still some people just cant realize......

I do not have a problem with BMW I got a problem with the current design, and I know several people who have been driving BMW for ages moving away from it because of the new horrible design......these are of course grown ups, who dont need a bimmer to be a pos in thoe...... :P

I guess we both have great laugh then
And I know several people who moved over the BMW. You see there is no right or wrong. Its okey that you dont like the new design and its okay that I like it but were arent speaking for the majority of BMW customers.
It also proves that all buyers dont hang on the internet, most of the buyers live outside the internetworld.

BMW are selling well and noone can take that away from them and I love it cause e all nay sayers , bite the sour apple

I voted for mercedes Benz, followed by BMW quite closely and Audi in the third position quite clearly IMO...i decided to go for the BMW and Merc because firstly i dont fancy too much with the AWD concept overall...i do prefer a light steering wheel as a rear wheel drive offers...and some rear wheel drive fun when a chance....IMO a saloon car should be a rear wheel drive.....

And finally i chose the merc rather than the BMW because i love the turbocharged cars and turbocharged response..and mercs engines approaches more to my tastes rather than the BMW......in addition i see that every current merc looks awesome from the S Class launch, whereas from the current BMW shape i like just the X5 looks......anyway.....those three German brands are the brands which represent best the 4 door saloon car concept IMO

The standard 5 with the M bodykit looks far more attractive than the original, and to some extent, makes the E-class look boring... especially here in the UK. When an E-class drives past, nobody looks, but when a 5 series does (and a lot of them have the new bodykit now), you can hear people saying "hey, cool car".

I haven't heard anybody in the UK say that about the new A6 or the E-class yet. Almost all E-class owners here have gray hair and wear cross-hatch patterned shirts.

Also if i wanted a Big Coupé id go for a CL600, or 65 if i could afford a 65, but thats just if i had to buy one of the german cars, if not then id definately go Bentley Azure or Aston Martin DB9.
