Can someone please tell me whats involved (or if its possible) in getting just the audio from a music video on my PC and converting that to mp3 so that I can burn it onto a CD and listen to it in my car/house?
I have a few of these music videos (from live concerts) and some of the songs I can't find to d/l through P2P so I would like to convert them to mp3 this way instead.
Thanks in advance. :D

I think you can do it with Virtual dub?

The answer to this really depends on the format of the file. If it's avi or mpg (mpeg1), you can use "save WAV" in virtual dub to save the audio part to wav. If it's mpeg2, you'll need a program like tmpgenc to de-multiplex it.

for avi's you can also load it in goldwave and then save direct to mp3 , I havn't tried with mpeg but maybe that works too :)

You can open the .wmv in TMPGEnc and output to .wav through: File > Output to file > WAVE file

How long is it suppose to take to output as a .wav file? When I said it was working above I only tried it on a small 15sec clip, but now when I'm doing it with a 30MB music video its going so slow and saying it will take 4.5hrs

That is taking way too long.

If ya have problems extracting it, why not just record it ??

|You can record sound using the free Util AUDIGRABBER... It's on download.com and you can record any sound on your PC.... just remember to mute the lin-in etc... to get the cleanest audio :D

^ thanks, but how do you record the sound from a .wmv file and save it as a separate file? I can't work out how to do it with that program. :(

Don't worry....I got it working using Goldwave and the LAME mp3 encoder (thanks for the tip Dan, should've used that earlier). :)
