Does JC have his Ford GT yet?

I think some have been delivered in the UK

www.tomhartley.com has a brand new one, with "custom" photos in the UK.

Auto Trader UK has about 10 for sale and a few other specialst dealers have them. I'm going to have to make a trip to see one of them.

I think it is such a shame that of 28 buyers, including Martin Brundle, Damon Hill & Jezza, that this many see fit to sell the car for a profit.

ATM we're looking at about £180k for a GT... that's a 50% price increase from £120k.

i dont know much about how many have, or have not been shipped to the UK... i do know that several US dealers have sold thier car on auctions for $300,000-$500,000 USD to the UK in particular.... so there will definately be more then just 28 cars in the UK... just 28 UK authorized dealer sold cars

I wouldn't be surprised if he has the car, but there's also a good likelihood that his vehicle is still waiting at the Wixom plant or at the docks because of the suspension recall that Ford has had to make.

There's no way.

Even if he had been one of the first to get it, which he wasn't by his own admission, he would have had to send it back to get that suspension problem fixed under the recall. Who knows how much time that will add to him getting the car, at least a few months I would guess.

Nope, it hasn't, but all the delivered cars were asked to be returned for the suspension to be fixed. It is apparently a small, but significant problem, which can be fixed even after the car has been built, hence the nonexistence of a "production halt".

As i'm sure you know, the Ford GT is a little bit low-tech. The F340, however, is a "technical tour de force" and should be celebrated for that.

The Ford is a retro car, with retro mechanicals. That is not necessarily a bad thing but Ford couldn't be bothered to put the traditional engine in, and so dumped the run-of-the-mille V8 into it. Hardly a lot of effort. I feel the GT is more of a publicity stunt than a focused driving tool... afterall, Ford didn't need it to be that good, there's only going to be 100 of them to be test driven.

I think, that if anything, the Ford GT reflects badly on Ford's situation. Quit spinning out re-hashed versions of older cars, and do something innovative. Instead of a replica GT40, they should have produce a Ford GT for the 21st Century. :roll:

quite :P not to mention that the GT40 was almost entirely british designed and built, apart from the basic engine layout. And definately at least the engine from the new GT engines are actually designed/tuned by british companies, but based on the ford V8. The GT40 is probably the greatest "American" car ever, likewise the GT is probably the greatest modern "american" car, and yet its run of the mill stuff :P

relating to the engine, i perfer a N/A motor in most cases... and although i love the engine that is in it, that beautiful 6.4L v10 that was in the Cobra concept last year was amazing! i cirtainly hope that is the placard motor in the car that will 'replace' the GT.

power is power, any way you look at it... since when is 4 cams 'low tech'? i mean really... does Porsche get ragged on for using forced induction in thier high end cars?

oh, and regarding the original car... wasnt Carol Shelby the team boss, per say?

Shelby wasn't hired until later on in the the GT40's history..... Eric Broadley, the owner and designer of Lola Cars, was hired by Ford to design a car based on his existing Lola GT which was V8 powered. The entire car, apart from the engine, was British designed and built. The ally ""Indy"" V8 originally fitted proved too fragile. Carroll Shelby was THEN hired and replaced it with the more reliable 427 iron lump...

I can't think of any.... with a heritage that is. I think MG/Rover is the only one, and Caterham and other low-volume car manufacturers, although i may be wrong :?
