Last night after going to the movies I went on a little walk through my little city to take some ‘by night’ pics. Here are the results. I don’t have a tripod, so some pics may be a bit blurry:

Seems indeed a nice city :D

Too bad for the lack of tripod, but usually you can put your camera on the ground, walls, outside windows and on many other places where it can stay immobile ;)

That's what I tried to do for some pics. But the problem then is you only see the lower halve of a building. And if you point the camera a bit upwards by hand, you can't use a long exposure time, because the camera is than not 100% immobile.

I think I should consider purchasing a tripod :D

It's Leuven, a small city of 80.000 inhabitants, 30 km West of Brussels. It's known for its old university, historical centre and for its beer. It's the homebase of Interbrew/InBev, and it has a little market square that's known as 'the largest bar of Western Europe' thanks to its high concentration of pubs.

In that case I usually put something under the camera like a small stick or anything else that can provide a small angle ;)

but definitely a tripod is a better option ;)

City looks great. What was the temperature outside at that time? Looks quite cold, but is must be the wet apshalt.
Pics were taken in December. I don't know the exact temperature anymore :D But it must have been something between -5°C and 0°C. So, yes it was cold :)

Wow, some of those pics are just superb. The lighting really sets off those buildings.

Yesterday night I took some extra pics. For some reason I only had my pola filter with me, so I took these ones with it, which is rather unusual. But it seemed to not really have much effect on the pics as long as the shutter times were increased.

The following pics were shot with my compact camera some months ago. Someone prolly though our city was Vienna and placed a rather big wheel on one of the squares:

The pole in the middle is real, apparently placing a giant pug on a big pole is art these days

(I've also added these pics to the first post)

Or steady your arm or camera against a lamp post or sign to reduce shaky hand syndrome when a tripod isn't available.

That's it for my tips... i'll leave them to the experts :P

Nice pictures though... the lights really make the buildings look great 8)

[EDIT] = didn't realise this was an old topic.... how did i fail to notice it before

Very nice pics again Wutputt. :D

What time did you take these, 2AM? It seems there are no people around, are they all sleeping already? :?

Idd around 2 AM, but as last time I took these during the exam period. My city is a small university city, so in these periods during the weeks there isn't that much activity at night. This means after waiting a moment I could always take pics without people in them. Of course there's always activity at night, but not really around the places I took pics of last night.
