And the Toronado is built around a C5 Corvette chassis... --- let's see someone do that with a 911.... :P

That and the fact that that is a one off engine making over 1000 hp specialy built by GM for Jay Leno.

EDIT: I noticed that the intake is different than when it was originally. It had two large panel filters on top of the engine going to the turbo's because there was no room infront what with an Intercooler and 3 radiators.

I was watching RIDES on TLC channel and Jay was showing off a lot of his cars, I suggest if you can find that episode it's worth watching it.

that's the one where he built that Toronado right? That was a good show.

I think so, they made it rear wheel drive instead of front wheel drive. Is that the show you're thinking of?

T-Bird

yeah that's the car shown above.
OH BTW that had something like 375hp in the Front Wheels so it could handle more than 220hp or whatever.

I'm assuming it has a C5 engine in it also? The black plastic intake cover looks strangely familiar

nope it's some large displacement (forgot the size) one-off straight from GM turbo's and all.

wait... did u just say that the toronado was FWD !?! im confused.

T-Bird

yes the Toronado was like one of the first FWD cars atleast in the US.
The system was a longitudinal engine with a longitudinaly mounted FWD tranny like those found on Audi's but the trans was set next to the engine and was chain driven like some transfer cases are done. It was a very unique system and it worked great but they say that any more power and the chain's wouldn't hold up, they would break before anything else. and they had no problems with the FWD setup otherwise.

Actually it is derivative of the C5R/CTS-V racing program... so essentially it IS a based on the LS6... ;)

Oh - and not to gforget they kept the old pram leaf springs from the C5 chassis ... :P hehehe
